Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the effectiveness of pembrolizumab plus platinum-based chemotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, focusing on tumor mutational burden (tTMB) and specific gene mutations as potential biomarkers.
  • A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from two clinical trials (KEYNOTE-189 and KEYNOTE-407) to assess the prevalence of high tTMB and mutations in relation to patient outcomes.
  • Results indicated that while high tTMB was associated with improved survival outcomes in some cases, no significant correlation was found between tTMB or mutation status and overall survival for patients receiving pembrolizumab-combination treatments.

The widespread incorporation of first-trimester scanning between 11 and 13 weeks' gestation has shifted from the screening of chromosomal abnormalities, mainly by measuring nuchal translucency thickness and visualization of the nasal bone, to a more detailed study of the fetal anatomy leading to early detection of several structural congenital anomalies. This goal can be improved by the routine and focused sonographic assessment of specific anatomic planes and the identification of distinctive landmarks that can help disclosing a particular, non-evident condition. In this article we present the basis for a basic, early examination of the fetal brain during screening using a four-step technique, which can be readily incorporated during the first-trimester scan.

Effects of Ozone Treatment on Health-Related Quality of Life and Toxicity Induced by Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy in Symptomatic Cancer Survivors.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

January 2023

Network for Research on Chronicity, Primary Care, and Health Promotion (RICAPPS), Instituto de Salud Carlos III, 28029 Madrid, Spain.

(1) Background: The continuous improvement in cancer treatment has led to improvement in patients’ survival and a subsequent increase in the number of cancer survivors living with adverse side effects of cancer treatments, sometimes with a high and adverse impact on their health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Side effects of cancer treatments are frequently associated with chronic status of oxidative stress, inflammation, and/or ischemia. The potential for ozone treatment to modulate those processes and improve some of those adverse effects has previously been described.

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a severe type of liver cancer, but the cellular processes behind its progression are not fully understood, particularly regarding the SOCS2 protein's role.
  • In experiments with mice, researchers found that those lacking SOCS2 had more severe liver tumors, increased inflammation, and higher levels of certain proteins linked to cancer growth, suggesting SOCS2 has a protective function.
  • Additionally, lower levels of SOCS2 were observed in HCC patients compared to healthy livers, indicating it could be a potential biomarker and target for HCC treatment.
