Background: Cognitive decline is an arising concern in patients who need cranial irradiation. We used the pooled longitudinal individual patient data of two phase III trials: NCT01780675 and PREMER to investigate whether hippocampal avoidance (HA)-PCI is associated with improved self-reported cognitive functioning (SRCF) compared with PCI without increasing brain metastases (BM) development within the HA area.
Methods: Patients with stage I-IV small cell lung cancer (SCLC) were randomized to PCI or HA-PCI.
Background And Aims: Inflammatory pouch disorders exhibit a heterogeneous clinical spectrum and therapeutic requirements have not been properly studied.
Methods: This retrospective, multicentre study included ulcerative colitis patients with ileal pouch construction and were later diagnosed with an inflammatory pouch disorder between 1995 and 2020. Classifications, behaviour and therapies applied were recorded and compared in the long-term.

Background: The usefulness of thiopurines has been poorly explored in pouchitis and other pouch disorders.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of azathioprine as maintenance therapy in inflammatory pouch disorders.
Design: This was a retrospective and multicentre study.
Background And Objectives: Bexarotene has been approved to treat advanced stage cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) since 1999. However, very few data have been published on its long-term safety and efficacy profile. The aim of this study is to determine the tolerability to bexarotene and outcomes by collecting the 2nd largest case series to date on its long-term use vs CTCL.

Background And Aims: Despite considerable evidence that lipid-lowering therapies (LLTs) afford clinical benefit, the control of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is suboptimal, and available LLTs are underused, especially in patients at high and very high cardiovascular (CV) risk. This study assesses the real-world LDL-C target attainment rate in patients on LLT before experiencing a first major acute cardiovascular event (MACE).
Methods And Results: The HEARTBEAT was a retrospective, multicentre observational study.

The influenza virus has accompanied humans since time immemorial, in the form of annual epidemics and occasional pandemics. It is a respiratory infection with multiple repercussions on people's lives at an individual and social level, as well as representing a significant burden on the health system. This Consensus Document arises from the collaboration of various Spanish scientific societies involved in influenza virus infection.

Introduction: The effectiveness of the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols in gastric cancer surgery remains controversial.
Methods: Multicentre prospective cohort study of adult patients undergoing surgery for gastric cancer. Adherence with 22 individual components of ERAS pathways were assessed in all patients, regardless of whether they were treated in a self-designed ERAS centre.

The main aim of this study was to evaluate indicative small-bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) findings, and the secondary aim was to describe clinical presentation in patients with MD.
Methods: This retrospective European multicenter study included patients with MD undergoing SBCE from 2001 until July 2021.

Home hemodialysis (HHD) with low-flow dialysate devices has gained popularity in recent years due to its simple design, portability, and ability to provide greater freedom of movement for our patients. However, there are doubts about the adequacy that this technology offers, since it uses monitors with low-flow bath and lactate. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the clinical benefits of low-flow HHD with the NxStage System One® recently introduced in Spain.

Background: At present, we did not find any articles that studied seroprevalence and its persistence several months later in lung cancer patients in the setting of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Most patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) go on to develop antibodies (Abs) against viral proteins. However, it is not known how long these Abs last nor whether cancer treatments could affect the duration of immune response.

Introduction: Treatment of relapsed and/or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) should be established based on multiple factors, including previous treatment and the sociodemographic/clinical characteristics of the patients. However, patients enrolled in randomized-controlled trials often do not mirror the scenario encountered in real-world practice, thus challenging therapeutic decisions in day-to-day practice.
Patients And Methods: This observational, cross-sectional, multicenter study aimed to investigate the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of patients with RRMM treated in routine practice in Spain and their influence on treatment regimens.

Purpose: Radiation dose received by the neural stem cells of the hippocampus during whole-brain radiotherapy has been associated with neurocognitive decline. The key concern using hippocampal avoidance-prophylactic cranial irradiation (HA-PCI) in patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is the incidence of brain metastasis within the hippocampal avoidance zone.
Methods: This phase III trial enrolled 150 patients with SCLC (71.
Purpose/objective(s): On October 5, 2018, a meeting of the Spanish Society of Radiation Oncology (SEOR) Brachytherapy Group was held, in collaboration with the Spanish Society of Medical Physics (SEFM), with the aim of preparing a consensus document on postoperative vaginal-cuff brachytherapy (VCBT).
Materials/methods: A survey including 42 questions was sent to Spanish Radiation Oncology Centres before the meeting. The survey items included: experience in VCBT, technique indications, previous patient preparation, applicator type, implant procedure, computerized tomography (CT) simulation, definition of target volumes and organs at risk (OAR), dose prescription, fractionation, treatment planning, dosimetric parameters and constraints to OAR.

Transition is an intrinsic process in the life of a patient with kidney disease and should be planned and anticipated when possible. A single therapy option might not be adequate across a patient's entire lifespan and many patients will require a switch in their treatment modality to adapt the treatment to their clinical and psychosocial needs. There are several reasons behind changing a patient's treatment modality, and the consequences of each decision should be evaluated, considering both short- and long-term benefits and risks.

Introduction: We compared the recovery of muscle electrical properties after maximal voluntary contractions (MVCs) of 1 and 3 min duration by examining separately the first and second phases of the muscle compound action potential (M wave).
Methods: M waves were evoked by supramaximal single shocks to the femoral nerve throughout the 30-min recovery following 1-min and 3-min MVCs. The amplitude, duration, and area of the M-wave first and second phases, along with peak-to-peak amplitude and total area, were measured from the knee extensors.

Background: Prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) is part of the usual treatment in most patients with small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) and response after treatment of the primary tumor. Clinical evidence suggests that radiation dose received by the hippocampus during whole brain radiotherapy might play a role in radiation-induced neurocognitive decline.
Patients And Methods: This study is a multicenter phase III trial (NCT02397733) randomizing SCLC patients after informed consent, to receive standard PCI treatment or PCI with hippocampus avoidance (PCI-HA) by using intensity modulated radiation therapy or volumetric modulated arc therapy.
