Background: Tarsal coalitions are aberrant unions of two or more tarsal bones which may condition variable foot and ankle conditions. Their incidence is also variable but most frequently diagnosed coalitions are talocalcaneal and calcaneonavicular. This article aims to evaluate clinical and epidemiological characteristics of patients diagnosed with tarsal coalitions.

Cellular Communication Network Factor 2 (CCN2) is a matricellular protein implicated in cell communication and microenvironmental signaling. Overexpression of CCN2 has been documented in various cardiovascular pathologies, wherein it may exert either deleterious or protective effects depending on the pathological context, thereby suggesting that its role in the cardiovascular system is not yet fully elucidated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of gene deletion on the progression of acute cardiac injury induced by doxorubicin (DOX), a widely utilized chemotherapeutic agent.

Background: Several dietary approaches have been used to induce remission in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), yielding varied results.
Methods: We searched the MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Scopus databases up to May 2024 to identify studies including dietary interventions for EoE used as monotherapy. Summary estimates with 95% CIs for achieving <15 eosinophils/HPF were calculated for each approach.

Introduction And Objectives: Vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 have been a major scientific and medical achievement in the control of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, very infrequent cases of inflammatory heart disease have been described as adverse events, leading to uncertainty in the scientific community and in the general population.
Methods: The Vaccine-Carditis Registry has included all cases of myocarditis and pericarditis diagnosed within 30 days after COVID-19 vaccination since August 1, 2021 in 29 centers throughout the Spanish territory.

COVID-19 is a respiratory disease caused by Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The effects of this infection on fetal development and whether there is vertical transmission are currently unknown. We present two cases of pregnant women with COVID-19 infection during the first and second trimester of gestation in which a PCR study of SARS-CoV-2 in amniotic fluid extracted by amniocentesis is performed to try to determine if there is vertical transmission.

Background: There is a lack of head-to-head studies comparing the efficacy of fingolimod (FIN) and natalizumab (NTZ) as second-line therapy for relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS).
Methods: Multicenter, observational study, in which, information of 388 patients randomly selected and treated with FIN or NTZ in routine clinical practice was retrospectively collected with the main objective of comparing the annualized relapse rate (ARR) over the first year, after FIN or NTZ treatment initiation.
Results: Mean ARR during the first year of treatment was 0.

Background And Aims: The Endoscopic Resection Group of the Spanish Society of Endoscopy (GSEED-RE) model and the Australian Colonic Endoscopic Resection (ACER) model were proposed to predict delayed bleeding (DB) after EMR of large superficial colorectal lesions, but neither has been validated. We validated and updated these models.
Methods: A multicenter cohort study was performed in patients with nonpedunculated lesions ≥20 mm removed by EMR.

The 3-rocker mechanism of gait provides a framework to understand why patients have mechanical metatarsal pain and to differentiate between the various types of metatarsalgia. Clinical examination of the patient together with radiological findings allows identification of the type of metatarsalgia and the pathomechanics involved, and the planning of surgical treatment. Second-rocker/nonpropulsive metatarsalgia is related with an abnormal inclination of a metatarsal in the sagittal plane, either anatomic or functional (equinism).

Background: The frequency of eosinophilic oesophagitis (EoE) occurrence is escalating. Current diagnostic criteria recently proposed for the disease, determine that previous estimates of incidence and prevalence are outdated.
Aim: To gauge the current incidence and prevalence of EoE by performing a systematic review of population-based studies.

Objectives: (a) To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of anti-TNF trough levels to predict mucosal healing in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); (b) to determine the best cut-off point to predict mucosal healing in IBD patients treated with anti-TNF.
Methods: This is a multicenter, prospective study. IBD patients under anti-TNF treatment for at least 6 months that had to undergo an endoscopy were included.
Purpose: To compare visual, topographic and topometric outcomes in patients subjected to deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty or penetrating keratoplasty showing a high or low risk of graft rejection.
Setting: Complejo Hospitalario La Mancha Centro, Ciudad Real, Spain.
Materials And Methods: Data were reviewed for consecutive patients with a corneal stroma disease undergoing deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty or penetrating keratoplasty over the period 2009-2015 at our centre by the same surgeon.

Background: This multicentre, randomised, and phase II study evaluated mFOLFOX+cetuximab followed by maintenance mFOLFOX+cetuximab or single-agent cetuximab in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients (NCT01161316).
Patients And Methods: Previously, untreated mCRC patients (wild-type KRAS) were randomised to receive cetuximab+mFOLFOX-6 (8 cycles for 2 weeks) followed by maintenance therapy: single-agent cetuximab (Arm-A) or mFOLFOX-6 + cetuximab (Arm-B) until progression. Primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS) at 9 months.

Background And Study Aims: To assess the cost-effectiveness of introducing endoscopic treatment based on radiofrequency ablation plus endoscopic mucosal resection in selected patients into the standard of care of Barrett's esophagus patients with high-grade dysplasia or low-grade dysplasia in Spain.
Methods: The disease evolution was modeled via a semi-Markov model. The treatment strategies compared included endoscopic treatment based on radiofrequency ablation plus endoscopic mucosal resection and the Standard of Care (esophagectomy or palliative chemoradiotherapy according to disease status for high-grade dysplasia and endoscopic surveillance for low-grade dysplasia).
