Gingival enlargement (GE) is the swelling of gums due to various factors like inflammation from plaque, certain medications, systemic conditions (e.g., pregnancy, puberty), and other diseases; it can also occur without a known cause (idiopathic GE) that may have genetic links.
This condition complicates oral hygiene, exacerbates inflammation, and negatively impacts speech, eating, appearance, and overall health.
A case report details the successful surgical treatment of a 17-year-old girl with severe GE using gingivectomy and gingivoplasty, resulting in improved function and aesthetics after three months, with ongoing follow-up.
