The nutria was introduced to Europe from South America and kept for the fur industry. This semiaquatic rodent became a well-established species in the Czech Republic; however, it still poses a significant threat to the native fauna, not only as a natural competitor but also as a vector of non-indigenous parasites. Our research aimed to investigate the diversity of endoparasitic helminths in nutria, with a particular focus on assessing the risk posed by helminth species with zoonotic potential.

Sleep is a fundamental physiological process conserved through evolution, from worms to humans. Understanding how temperature influences sleep is essential for comprehending the complexities of animal behavior, physiology, and their adaptations to thermal environments. This study explores the impact of temperature on sleep behavior and patterns in Drosophila melanogaster.

Background: Vascular surgery patients are at a high risk of polypharmacy and drug-related problems. Only a limited number of studies have explored the impact of hospital pharmacists being members of a multidisciplinary team in the care of vascular surgery patients. The clinical study (Trial Registration Number NCT04930302, 16 June 2021) aimed to assess the impact of pharmacist-led interventions on the prevalence of drug-related problems among patients hospitalised at the vascular surgery department.

In this work, the molecular enhancement factors of the P,T-odd interactions involving the electron electric dipole moment (Wd) and the scalar-pseudoscalar nucleon-electron couplings (Ws) are computed for the ground state of the bimetallic molecules YbCu, YbAg, and YbAu. These systems offer a promising avenue for creating cold molecules by associating laser-cooled atoms. The relativistic coupled-cluster approach is used in the calculations, and a thorough uncertainty analysis is performed to give accurate and reliable uncertainties to the obtained values.

Objectives: This study examined (non-)monotonic time trends in psychological and somatic complaints among adolescents, along with gender differences.
Methods: Repeated cross-sectional Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) data from 1994 to 2022 covering 15-year-old adolescents from 41 countries (N = 470,797) were analysed. Three polynomial logistic regression models (linear, quadratic, cubic) were tested for best fit, including separate analyses by gender and health complaints dimension.

The treatment of infections caused by is currently complicated by the increasing number of strains resistant to antimicrobial agents. One promising way to solve this problem is phage therapy. Due to the lack of data on the effectiveness and safety of phage preparations, STAFAL is the only registered phage preparation for the treatment of infectious diseases in the Slovak Republic and the entire European Union.

Stress responses can impact bladder cancer (BC) outcomes via immune-inflammatory pathway modulation. This study explores heart rate variability (HRV) associations with serum immune-inflammatory biomarkers, blood count inflammatory markers, and psychosocial self-report measures in patients versus healthy controls. The TREM-1 and TREM-2 expressions on peripheral blood monocytes were analysed via flow cytometry; serum inflammatory biomarkers by ELISA; HRV (5-min ECG) pre-tumour resection; blood counts by haematology analyser; and psychosocial factors by validated questionnaires.

This study investigates the biosorption capabilities of kefir grains, a polysaccharide-based byproduct of the fermentation process, for removing copper(II) and arsenic(V) from contaminated water. Unlike traditional heavy-metal removal methods, which are typically expensive and involve environmentally harmful chemicals, biopolymeric materials such as kefir grains provide a sustainable and cost-effective alternative for adsorbing hazardous inorganic pollutants from aqueous solutions. Our experimental results revealed significant differences in the sorption capacities of two types of kefir grains.

Keto analogues in combination with a (very) low-protein diet significantly reduces the progression to end-stage kidney disease. The question of their benefit and safety for kidney transplant recipients remains. This study aimed to show the renoprotective effect and safety of the use of this method in patients with chronic kidney disease and a kidney transplantation.

Purpose: Later sleep timing is a key determinant of reduced sleep duration and quality in adolescents and is associated with negative mental and physical outcomes. However, little is known about adolescents' views on late bedtime. The study's purpose is to explore adolescents' perspectives on why they go to sleep late during school nights and what would help them to go to bed earlier.

Wound healing represents a complex and evolutionarily conserved process across vertebrates, encompassing a series of life-rescuing events. The healing process runs in three main phases: inflammation, proliferation, and maturation/remodelling. While acute inflammation is indispensable for cleansing the wound, removing infection, and eliminating dead tissue characterised by the prevalence of neutrophils, the proliferation phase is characterised by transition into the inflammatory cell profile, shifting towards the prevalence of macrophages.

The ventricular system and subarachnoid space are filled with cerebrospinal fluid, which plays a key role in the nervous system. This fluid is produced by the choroid plexus, an organ rich in ion transporters that precisely control the transport of specific ions into the cerebrospinal fluid thanks to tight junctions between the plexus cells; these prevent the passage of substances other than the transporters, thus allowing for precise control of the fluid composition. Cerebrospinal fluid production is based on a network of interrelationships between specific ion flows enabled by the numerous transporters.

Asthma is a common multifaceted respiratory disease with a major impact on quality of life. Despite increased insights into mechanisms underlying various asthma phenotypes and endotypes and the availability of targeted biologic treatment options, the disease remains uncontrolled in a substantial proportion of patients with risk of exacerbations, requiring systemic corticosteroids, and with progressive disease. Current international guidelines advocate a personalized management approach to patients with uncontrolled severe asthma.

Exposure to artificial light at night (ALAN) disrupts natural darkness and desynchronizes daily rhythms in physiological processes and behavior. Previously, in rats, we have shown that dim ALAN disturbed the central circadian control and the temporal organization of behavior, and hormonal and metabolic pathways. The measurements of undisturbed daily behavioral (locomotor activity, feeding and drinking) patterns revealed reduced amplitudes and a transitory activity peak in the middle of the light (i.

Determining the number of viable cells by calculating colony-forming units is time-consuming. The evaluation of mixed biofilms consisting of different species is particularly problematic. Therefore, the aim of this study was to optimize a molecular method-propidium monoazide quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PMA-qPCR)-for accurate and consistent differentiation between living and dead cells.
