Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) carries a high risk of vascular thrombosis. Invertebrate insulin-like peptide-binding proteins (ILPBPs) are structurally homologous to vertebrate insulin-like growth factor binding protein 7 (IGFBP7). One of the invertebrate ILPBPs is considered as a potential binding protein of insulin-like androgenic gland factor (IAG) in males of crayfish, Cherax quadricarinatus. Filamentous Inoviridae phages integrate into the chromosome of plant pathogens Xanthomonas as prophages, but their diversity and integrative mechanism are not completely understood. A proviral Cf2 sequence of 6454 bases from Xanthomonas citri genome was revived as infectious virions able to lysogenize its host. Unlike other Xanthomonas phages (Cf1c, φLf, Xf109, XacF1), Cf2 phage has RstA/RstB replication protein, and its attP has XerD binding arm and dif central region but lacks XerC binding arm.

The crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) neuropeptide family has multiple functions in the regulation of hemolymph glucose levels, molting, ion, and water balance and reproduction. In crab species, three neuroendocrine tissues: the eyestalk ganglia (medulla terminalis X-organ and -sinus gland = ES), the pericardial organ (PO), and guts synthesize a tissue-specific isoforms of CHH neuropeptides. F-type lectins (FTLs) are characterized by a fucose recognition domain (F-type lectin domain; FTLD) that displays a novel jellyroll fold ("F-type" fold) and unique carbohydrate- and calcium-binding sequence motifs. This novel lectin family comprises widely distributed proteins exhibiting single, double, or greater multiples of the FTLD, either tandemly arrayed or combined with other structurally and functionally distinct domains. Further, differences in carbohydrate specificity among tandemly arrayed FTLDs present in any FTL polypeptide subunit, together with the expression of multiple FTL isoforms in a single individual supports a striking diversity in ligand recognition.

Galectins are a family of ß-galactoside-binding lectins characterized by a unique sequence motif in the carbohydrate recognition domain, and evolutionary and structural conservation from fungi to invertebrates and vertebrates, including mammals. Their biological roles, initially understood as limited to recognition of endogenous ("self") carbohydrate ligands in embryogenesis and early development, dramatically expanded in later years by the discovery of their roles in tissue repair, cancer, adipogenesis, and regulation of immune homeostasis. In recent years, however, evidence has also accumulated to support the notion that galectins can bind ("non-self") glycans on the surface of potentially pathogenic microbes, and function as recognition and effector factors in innate immunity.
