Background: The utilization of anterior-based approaches for total hip arthroplasty (THA) is increasing. Literature on the outcomes of revision THA (rTHA) through an anterior approach, however, is sparse. This study reports the survivorship and risk factors for re-revision in patients undergoing aseptic rTHA through an anterior approach.

Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Columbia University Irving Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, New York, New York.
Background: Restorative proctocolectomy and IPAA have become the surgical procedure of choice in pediatric patients with medically refractory colitis or familial adenomatous polyposis.
Objective: This systematic review aims to assess the diagnosis and treatment of pouch disorders in pediatric patients who undergo IPAA.
Data Sources: A literature search was performed using MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and Embase for all publications describing outcomes of pediatric IPAA.
Dis Colon Rectum
June 2024
Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine, New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York, New York.
Background: Restorative proctocolectomy with IPAA improves the quality of life in patients with ulcerative colitis by the removal of diseased large bowel and preservation of the natural route of defecation. Although the surgery may improve preexisting extraintestinal manifestations in the joints, skin, and eyes, extraintestinal manifestations, particularly primary sclerosing cholangitis, can persist after colectomy.
Objectives: A systematic review of diagnosis and treatment of liver, joint, skin, and eye manifestations in patients with restorative proctocolectomy and IPAA for ulcerative colitis.

Several studies suggest differences in burnout and coping mechanisms between female and male physicians. We conducted an international, online survey exploring sex-based differences in the well-being of interventional cardiologists. Of 1251 participants, 121 (9.

Background: Structural and inflammatory adverse sequelae are common after restorative proctocolectomy and IPAA. On rare occasions, neoplasia can occur in patients with ileal pouches. Pouchoscopy plays a key role in the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, disease monitoring, assessment of treatment response, surveillance, and delivery of therapy.

Background: The optimal treatment strategy of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) (especially those with intermediate risk) continues to evolve and remains controversial.
Objectives: This study sought to compare the efficacy and safety of anticoagulation (AC) alone, catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT), and systemic thrombolysis (ST) in patients with acute PE.
Methods: PubMed and EMBASE were searched for randomized controlled trials or observational studies which compared outcomes of AC alone, CDT, and ST in acute PE.

Myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) is a distinct subtype of myocardial infarction (MI), occurring in about 8-10% of spontaneous MI cases referred for coronary angiography. Unlike MI with obstructive coronary artery disease, MINOCA's pathogenesis is more intricate and heterogeneous, involving mechanisms such as coronary thromboembolism, coronary vasospasm, microvascular dysfunction, dissection, or plaque rupture. Diagnosing MINOCA presents challenges and includes invasive and non-invasive strategies aiming to differentiate it from alternative diagnoses and confirm the criteria of elevated cardiac biomarkers, non-obstructive coronary arteries, and the absence of alternate explanations for the acute presentation.

Currently, there are no specifically targeted first-line treatment options indicated for patients with mCRC whose tumors harbor both molecular aberrations. Pembrolizumab is a checkpoint inhibitor approved for the treatment of MSI-H/dMMR mCRC, and the BRAF inhibitor encorafenib, in combination with cetuximab, is approved for previously treated V600E-mutant mCRC.

Mitral annular calcium (MAC) with severe mitral valvular dysfunction presents a complex problem, as valve replacement, either surgical or transcatheter, is challenging because of anatomy, technical considerations, concomitant comorbidities, and advanced age. The authors review the clinical and anatomical features of MAC that are favorable (green light), challenging (yellow light), or prohibitive (red light) for surgical or transcatheter mitral valve interventions. Under the auspices of the Heart Valve Collaboratory, an expert working group of cardiac surgeons, interventional cardiologists, and interventional imaging cardiologists was formed to develop recommendations regarding treatment options for patients with MAC as well as a proposed grading and staging system using both anatomical and clinical features.

This curriculum introduced the 12 main POCUS applications for emergency medicine with presession educational assignments and in-person learning sessions. We used the Kirkpatrick framework of evaluation to develop our metrics of measurement.

Clavicle nonunion and malunion are relatively uncommon but, when symptomatic, can result in pain and dysfunction that requires surgical intervention. Various reconstructive and grafting techniques are available to achieve stable fixation and union. In the setting of persistent nonunion, vascularized bone grafting may be necessary.

Background: Indications and outcomes for percutaneous ventricular assist device (pVAD) use in surgically ineligible patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) remain poorly characterized.
Aims: We sought to describe the use and timing of pVAD and outcome in surgically ineligible patients.
Methods: Among 726 patients enrolled in the prospective OPTIMUM study, clinical and health status outcomes were assessed in patients who underwent pVAD-assisted PCI and those without pVAD.

Left main coronary artery (LMA) disease jeopardizes a large area of myocardium and increases the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. LMCA disease is found in 5% to 7% of all diagnostic coronary angiographies, and more than 80% of the patients enrolled in recent large randomized controlled left main trials had distal left main bifurcation or trifurcation disease. Emerging clinical evidence from prospective all-comer registries and randomized trials has provided a solid basis for percutaneous coronary intervention as a treatment option in selected patients with unprotected LMCA disease; however, to date, no uniform recommendations as to optimal stenting strategy for LMCA bifurcation lesions exist.
