Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of coronally advanced flap (CAF) versus tunnel technique (TUN) in covering isolated mid-facial peri-implant soft tissue dehiscences (PSTDs).
Materials And Methods: Twenty-eight participants presenting with isolated non-molar implants exhibiting PSTDs were enrolled and randomized to receive either CAF or TUN, both with a connective tissue graft (CTG). The primary outcome of the study was the percentage of mean PSTD coverage at 12 months.

Partially edentulous patients who present with inadequate bone height in the posterior maxillary can predictably be rehabilitated with lateral wall sinus augmentation and subsequent implant placement. However, the sinus augmentation is defined by variations observed in the anatomical presentation of the maxillary sinus. Herein, we describe a case study managing sinus augmentation when a rare anatomic variant termed inferior meatus pneumatization was observed.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) outcomes remain stagnant, in part due to a poor understanding of HNSCC biology. The importance of tumor heterogeneity as an independent predictor of outcomes and treatment failure in HNSCC has recently come to light. With this understanding, 3D culture systems, including patient derived organoids (PDO) and organotypic culture (OTC), that capture this heterogeneity may allow for modeling and manipulation of critical subpopulations, such as p-EMT, as well as interactions between cancer cells and immune and stromal cells in the microenvironment.

Tinnitus is commonly depicted as a ringing within the ears, but it can sound like roaring, clicking, hissing, or buzzing. It is a symptom that shows something is wrong in the auditory system, which includes the sound-related nerve that interfaces the inward ear to the brain, and the parts of the brain that handle sound. Generally, the causes of tinnitus include: Otologic causes, Neurologic causes, temporomandibular joint, and masticatory muscle disorders.

Background: Breast MRI has been associated with significant rates of false positive findings. We aimed to determine the frequency of extramammary findings (EMFs) in newly diagnosed breast cancer patients on breast MRI with contrast and assess the significance of these findings and need for additional imaging and follow-up.
Study Design: A retrospective review of patients diagnosed with breast cancer from October 2018 to October 2019 was performed.

Introduction During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an unprecedented and forced closure of dental offices worldwide. As American state recommendations differed considerably during this period, this research strives to better define the effects of this pause on dental care.Materials and methods A 16-question Qualtrics survey was sent to the membership of the New York State Dental Association (NYSDA) and Georgia Dental Association (GDA).

The present study sought to investigate the apical socket perforation rate (ASPR) from a simulated uniaxial implant placement and to determine the effect of implant length and diameter on ASPR when a uniaxial implant was placed compared with the orientation of the pre-existing dual-axis implant.
Material And Method: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans from the database of three private practices were searched for patients who received dual-axis implants within the esthetic zone in immediate tooth replacement therapy.

Background: Understanding the role and potential therapeutic targeting of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) is crucial to developing new biomarkers and therapeutic strategies for cancer immunotherapies. The epigenetic reader SP140 has emerged as a master regulator of macrophage transcriptional programs; however, its role in the signaling of TAMs and response to immunotherapy has not been investigated.
Methods: We evaluated the correlation between SP140 expression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) TAMs and clinical outcomes.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to better understand the complex molecular biomarkers and signatures of head and neck cancer (HNC) among Black patients and identify possible molecular changes associated with HNC disparities.
Experimental Design: Molecular subtypes and genomic changes in HNC samples from patients of African and European ancestry in The Cancer Genome Atlas, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Broad Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and John Hopkins University were identified. Molecular features (genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic) associated with race and genomic alterations associated with clinical outcomes were determined.

Background: Sclerosing odontogenic carcinoma is an exceedingly rare gnathic malignancy first described by Koutlas et al. in 2008, and was only recently designated as a distinct pathologic entity by World Health Organization in the 2017 Classification of Head and Neck Tumors. To date, fewer than fifteen cases of this neoplasm have been reported in the English language literature.

Purpose: Coronally advanced split-or full-thickness (CAST or CAFT) flaps in combination with subepithelial connective tissue grafts (SCTGs) are commonly used in root-coverage procedures despite postoperative pain and bleeding from the graft donor site. Therefore, the modified vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access procedure (VISTAX) uses a novel collagen matrix (VCMX) instead of autogenous tissue to address the limitations associated with autogenous tissue grafting. This retrospective study compared the clinical outcomes of VISTAX to the results obtained after using a CAST or CAFT flap in combination with SCTG for root coverage.

Today, -omics analyses, including the systematic cataloging of messenger RNA and microRNA sequences or DNA methylation patterns in a cell population, organ or tissue sample, allow for an unbiased, comprehensive genome-level analysis of complex diseases, offering a large advantage over earlier "candidate" gene or pathway analyses. A primary goal in the analysis of these high-throughput assays is the detection of those features among several thousand that differ between different groups of samples. In the context of oral biology, our group has successfully utilized -omics technology to identify key molecules and pathways in different diagnostic entities of periodontal disease.

-Omics analyses, including the systematic cataloging of messenger RNA and microRNA sequences or DNA methylation patterns in a cell population, organ, or tissue sample, are powerful means of generating comprehensive genome-level data sets on complex diseases. We have systematically assessed the transcriptome, microbiome, miRNome, and methylome of gingival and peri-implant tissues from human subjects and further studied the transcriptome of primary cells ex vivo, or in vitro after infection with periodontal pathogens. Our data offer new insight on the pathophysiology underlying periodontal and peri-implant diseases, a possible route to a better and earlier diagnosis of these highly prevalent chronic inflammatory diseases and thus, to a personalized and efficient treatment approach.

This meta-analysis sought to evaluate the risk of AO associated with OCP use and sex independently and whether this risk was affected by the use of postoperative analgesics or antibiotics.
Methods: PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched for articles pertaining to OCP use and the incidence of AO using MESH terms.

A compromised extraction socket is characterized by severe bone resorption around neighboring teeth and is often occupied with thick intrasocket granulation tissue (IGT). Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is a procedure that can preserve the bone volume around extraction sockets, and it can also be combined with immediate implant placement. However, an early exposure of GBR sites is a possible complication because it increases the risk of infection and can inhibit successful bone regeneration.

Introduction: Immediate implant placement in conjunction with partial extraction therapy has been shown to result in functional osseo- and dento-integration with partial preservation of the periodontal ligament (PDL) in humans. Strategic buccal root retention for PDL preservation is a biologically driven procedure that maintains alveolar ridge dimensions and esthetics, while allowing for implant placement. The aim of this study was to conduct a systematic review of longitudinal clinical outcomes of PDL-mediated ridge preservation in conjunction with implant placement in adults, compared with conventional immediate implant placement with total extractions.
