Background: Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a prevalent chronic disease among children and adolescents, necessitating effective self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) levels. Understanding the determinants and factors influencing SMBG behavior is crucial for optimizing diabetes management in this population.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the frequency of SMBG and identify the determinants influencing factors in children and adolescents with T1DM.

Background: Natural menopause is defined as the permanent cessation of menstruation that occurs after 12 consecutive months of amenorrhea without any obvious pathological or physiological cause. The age of this phenomenon has been reported to be associated with several health outcomes.
Objectives: This study aimed to estimate the Age at Natural Menopause (ANM) and to identify reproductive and demographic factors affecting ANM.

Background: Given that obesity and insulin resistance play key roles in the pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and the connection between leptin and these metabolic diseases, the association between NAFLD and a leptin receptor gene (LEPR) polymorphism was examined.
Methods: In this genetic case-control association study, 144 biopsy-proven NAFLD patients and 144 controls were genotyped for the LEPR gene Gln223Arg (rs1137101) polymorphism using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method.
Results: The distributions of genotypes and alleles of Gln223Arg variant were in accordance with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the study groups (P > .

Cancer is one of the most serious leading causes of death in the world. Many eclectic factors are involved in cancer progression including genetic and epigenetic alongside environmental ones. In this account, the performance and fluctuations of microRNAs are significant in cancer diagnosis and treatment, particularly as diagnostic biomarkers in oncology.

To investigate the effects of 3'UTR genotype on promotor methylation of tumor-related genes in 22 patients with sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC) from southern Iran. We evaluated the correlations of 3'UTR genotype with promoter methylation of and genes in CRC patients. The polymorphism of 3'UTR was evaluated through mutagenically specific PCR.

Advanced glycation end products (AGE) in complex with their receptors (RAGE) cause a chronic inflammatory state in the body, which is the major mechanism in cancer development. This study aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis on the observational studies investigating the association between AGEs / sRAGE and cancer incidence. The PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were comprehensively searched to identify papers focused on the associations of sRAGE and AGEs with cancer incidence up to May 2023.

The standard of care for locally advanced rectal cancer is total neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgical resection. Current evidence suggests that selected patients may be able to delay or avoid surgery without affecting survival rates if they achieve a complete clinical response (CCR). However, for older cancer patients who are too frail for surgery or decline the surgical procedure, local recurrence may lead to a deterioration of patient quality of life.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited hemoglobinopathy with protean clinical manifestations. The liver could be affected by various SCD-associated complications of an overlapping nature. The clinical presentations of "sickle cell hepatopathy" range from clinically asymptomatic patients to those with life-threatening complications.

Purpose: The Kharameh cohort study (KHCS) is one branch of the 'Prospective Epidemiological Research Studies in Iran', located in the south of Iran. The enrolment phase of KHCS spanned from April 2015 to March 2017, during which urban and rural residents of Kharameh were enrolled in the study. KHCS aims to investigate the incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and cancer, and its related risk factors in a 15-year follow-up.

Background: Low anterior resection in patients with rectal cancer may require a defunctioning loop ileostomy formation that requires closure after a period of time. There are three common techniques for ileostomy closure: anterior repair (AR or fold-over closure), resection and hand-sewn anastomosis (RHA), and resection and stapled anastomosis (RSA). We aimed to compare them on the basis of operative and postoperative features.

Background: Bowel obstruction is a disorder in the passage of bowel contents, the etiology of which varies depending on temporal and geographical conditions. This study investigated the etiology of bowel obstruction in a large number of patients at an adult surgery referral center in southern Iran.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we reviewed the medical records of all patients admitted to Shahid Faghihi hospital (Shiraz, Iran) between 2014 and 2020 with a diagnosis of small or large bowel obstruction.

Introduction: Cancer-derived circulating components are increasingly considered as candidate sources for non-invasive diagnostic biomarkers. This study aimed to investigate the expression of tumor-educated platelet (TEP) long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients and determine whether it could be served as a potential tool for CRC diagnosis.
Materials And Methods: Relative quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the expression levels of three cancer-related platelet-derived lncRNAs CCAT1, HOTTIP, and XIST in 75 CRC patients and 42 healthy controls.

We aimed to prospectively assess the association between variety and quantity of fruits and vegetables (FV) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) incidence and mortality due to the limited evidence. Our analysis included 2,918 adults with a follow-up period of 29,559 person-years. An inverse association was detected between fruit intake and the risk of incidence and mortality from CVD.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a significant biological role in the regulation of various cellular processes such as cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and migration. In various malignancies, lncRNAs interplay with some main cancer-associated signaling pathways, including the Hippo signaling pathway to regulate the various cellular processes. It has been revealed that the cross-talking between lncRNAs and Hippo signaling pathway involves in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers development and progression.

Key Clinical Message: Abdominal cocoon syndrome and Chilaiditi syndrome are rare etiologies of bowel obstruction which have to be considered in patients with obstructive symptoms. Patients can profit from surgical management rather than non-surgical approach.
Abstract: Encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis or abdominal cocoon syndrome (ACS) is an uncommon cause of intestinal obstructions associated with encapsulation of the small bowel by a fibro collagenous sac.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a rare congenital heart malformation in which 1 or more pulmonary veins drain into the systemic venous circulation or directly into the right atrium instead of the left atrium. It may occur alongside other congenital heart defects, including atrial septal defect (ASD). All patients with newly diagnosed ASD must be evaluated thoroughly for the likelihood of PAPVR to select surgical or percutaneous procedures.

The role of numerous risk factors, including consumption of alcohol, smoking, having diet high in fat and sugar and many other items, on caner progression cannot be denied. Viral diseases are one these factors, and they can initiate some signalling pathways causing cancer. For example, they can be effective on providing oxygen and nutrients by inducing VEGF expression.

The most widely taken medical approach toward hernia repair involves the implementation of a prosthetic mesh to cover the herniated site and reinforce the weakened area of the abdominal wall. Biodegradable meshes can serve as biocompatible grafts with a low risk of infection. However, their major complication is associated with a high rate of degradation and hernia recurrence.

Burns injuries are prone to hospital-acquired infections, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most common causes of mortality and morbidity in patients with burn injuries. Thus, this study aimed to analyze the effects of topical treatment with bone marrow (BM-MSC) and adipose mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSC) encapsulated in collagen and fibrin scaffolds in a Balb/c model of burn wound infection. Extraction of stem cells from adipose and bone marrow tissue of rats was performed and cells were characterized using standard methods.
