Background: Following the US Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, there is evidence of limitations in access to safe abortion care. Artificially intelligent (AI)-enabled conversational chatbots are becoming an appealing option to support access to care, but generative AI systems can misinform and hallucinate and risk reinforcing problematic bias and stigma related to sexual and reproductive healthcare.

Background: Prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancy (AEP) involves reducing risky alcohol consumption among women at-risk for pregnancy, using effective contraception among women drinking at risky levels to prevent pregnancy, or both. This study presents the outcomes of a randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy of Native CHOICES, a culturally tailored adaptation of the CHOICES intervention, among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) women.
Methods: AI/AN women aged 18-44 who were at-risk for an AEP were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either the Native CHOICES intervention or a waitlist control group.

Aims/hypothesis: This is the first study to examine the association between variants of the glucagon-like-peptide-1 receptor gene (GLP-1R) and metabolic characteristics among youth. We explored separate associations of three GLP-1R polymorphisms (rs10305420, rs6923761, and rs1042044) with BMI trajectories and markers of glucose-insulin homeostasis.
Methods: Mixed models examined associations between GLP-1R polymorphisms and trajectories of BMI.

Importance: The American Heart Association put forth the Life's Essential 8 construct to assess cardiovascular health (CVH) based on 8 behavioral and health factors. Few studies have characterized the natural history of CVH in early life or identified its sociodemographic determinants.
Objective: To characterize CVH trajectories across childhood and adolescence and identify associations with sociodemographic variables.

Objectives: Although considerable focus has been placed on understanding the causes of opioid drug overdoses, the intentions for such overdoses are not well characterized. We investigated the motivations behind nonfatal opioid exposures resulting in serious adverse health outcomes.
Methods: We analyzed prospectively collected data on nonfatal opioid overdoses in the multicenter Toxicology Investigators Consortium (ToxIC) Core Registry between 2014 and 2021.

Introduction: Evidence concerning the health effects of using heated tobacco products is needed. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of conventional cigarettes (CCs), electronic vaping cigarettes (EVCs), and heated tobacco products (HTPs) on the development of metabolic syndrome.
Methods: We conducted a cohort study in South Korea using data from the Korea Medical Institute.

Background: Prenatal exposure to cannabis (or more specifically, delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol [Δ9-THC]) has been consistently linked to low birthweight. Animal models further show that Δ9-THC is associated with rapid postnatal growth. Whether this association is modified by breastfeeding is unknown.

Background: Malnutrition is prevalent throughout southwest Guatemala, where >40% of children suffer from chronic undernutrition. Evidence supports that assessing a community's awareness and readiness to address malnutrition is a critical first step in improving the success of a nutrition intervention program. The objective of this study was to apply the community readiness model (CRM) to assess community readiness to address childhood malnutrition in a rural southwest region of Guatemala.

Rice is a global staple food crop for nearly half of the world's population. Rice bran along with the germ are essential components of whole-grain rice and have immense potential for enhancing human nutrition. Rice bran has a unique composition and distinct requirements for processing before it can be consumed by humans when compared with other cereal brans.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) affects over 6 million people and is the seventh-leading cause of death in the US. This study compares wrist-worn accelerometry-derived PA measures against traditional risk factors for incident AD in the UK Biobank.
Methods: Of 42,157 UK Biobank participants 65 years and older who had accelerometry data and no prior AD diagnosis, 157 developed AD by April 1, 2021 (264,988 person-years or on average 6.

Purpose: To describe our process for returning genetic results to participants in the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine biobank.
Methods: Enrollment in the biobank is open to all adult UCHealth patients. Participants who provided a sample that was genotyped and signed the proper consent were eligible to receive results.
Background: Extreme and inequitable heat exposures cause weather-related deaths. Associations between maximum daily temperature and individual-level healthcare utilization have been inadequately characterized.
Objective: To evaluate and compare demographic and clinical associations for an individual's healthcare utilization between high- and low-temperature periods.

Background: Traditional approaches for learning anatomy for curvilinear endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) require learners to mentally visualize structures relative to the position of the bronchoscope. Virtual reality (VR) can demonstrate anatomy from the perspective of bronchoscopic tools.
Research Question: Does the use of a VR anatomy trainer for teaching EBUS-associated anatomy improve procedural performance compared to traditional methods?
Study Design And Methods: In this randomized, cross-over study design, subjects studied EBUS-related anatomy during two sequential sessions using a VR trainer and a traditional modality (two-dimensional pictures (2D) or a three-dimensional model (3D)).

Some studies report increased prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and associated symptoms with prenatal cannabis exposure. We examined whether associations of maternal cannabis use from 3 months preconception through delivery ("peripregnancy") with behavior and development in the offspring varied with the presence of ASD symptoms. Children ages 30-68 months with ASD symptoms (i.

Background: The vast majority of genes in the genome are multi-exonic, and are alternatively spliced during transcription, resulting in multiple isoforms for each gene. For some genes, different mRNA isoforms may have differential expression levels or be involved in different pathways. Bulk tissue RNA-seq, as a widely used technology for transcriptome quantification, measures the total expression (TE) levels of each gene across multiple isoforms in multiple cell types for each tissue sample.

Purpose Of Review: Parking is a ubiquitous feature of the built environment, but its implications for public health are under-examined. This narrative review synthesizes literature to describe pathways through which parking may affect population health.
Recent Findings: We begin by contextualizing the issue, outlining key terminology, the sheer scale of land dedicated to parking, and the historical factors that led to this dominant land use.

Translational research needs to show value through impact on measures that matter to the public, including health and societal benefits. To this end, the Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM) identified four categories of impact: Clinical, Community, Economic, and Policy. However, TSBM offers limited guidance on how these areas of impact relate to equity.

Background: Temperature and precipitation have previously been associated with infections. The association between salmonellosis and precipitation might be explained by antecedent drought conditions; however, few studies have explored this effect.
Methods: Using an ecological study design with public health surveillance, meteorological (total precipitation [inches], temperature [average °F], Palmer Drought Severity Index [PDSI, category]), and livestock data we explored the association between precipitation and infections reported in 127/141 counties from 2009 to 2021 in the Southwest, US and determined how this association was modified by antecedent drought.

Introduction: Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an urgent need for the rapid and equitable translation of knowledge and effective treatments to reach vulnerable populations in response to the ever-shifting pandemic environment. The approval of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) for treatment of outpatient COVID-19 resulted in a need to rapidly design dissemination strategies to increase awareness and equitable access for community members and healthcare providers.
Materials And Methods: We used the Fit to Context (F2C) Framework for Designing for Dissemination and Sustainability to (a) design products such as messages and materials, and (b) disseminate the products.
