The oil and gas industry faces two significant challenges, including rising global temperatures and depletion of reserves. Enhanced recovery techniques such as polymer flooding have positioned themselves as an alternative that attracts international attention thanks to increased recovery factors with low emissions. However, existing physical models need further refinement to improve predictive accuracy and prevent design failures in polymer flooding projects.

Increasing reports of chloroquine resistance (CQR) in Plasmodium vivax endemic regions have led to several countries, including Indonesia, to adopt dihydroarteminsin-piperaquine instead. However, the molecular drivers of CQR remain unclear. Using a genome-wide approach, we perform a genomic analysis of 1534 P.

The COVID-19 pandemic affected a large range of in-person education activities in Colombia. This created great limitations in academic performance for students with reduced access to communication technologies and deepened the educational gaps in the country. This was particularly true for sciences such as biochemistry.

Background: There is a bidirectional relationship between sleep and pain disturbances. Sleep disturbances increase the risk for chronic pain, while chronic pain can interfere with sleep. Hence, we assessed the subjective sleep characteristics of youth with functional abdominal pain disorders (FAPDs) compared to healthy youth and examined associations with gastrointestinal symptoms.

Introduction: Many cancer patients experience high levels of anxiety during chemotherapy, which can negatively impact their mental health and their physiological, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Different complementary therapies aim to attenuate these effects, including music therapy. Although there is preliminary evidence on the positive effects of music therapy and music-based interventions in chemotherapy wards, few studies report live group interventions delivered by accredited music therapists.

Scorpion stings pose a significant public health concern in Iran, resulting in approximately 45,000-50,000 cases and 19 deaths annually. The Khuzestan and Hormozgan provinces have the highest reported incidence rates, with an estimated 36,000 cases each year. This study focused on modeling the time series data of scorpion stings, specifically in Shoushtar City, from 2017 to 2022.

Frailty complicates the care of individuals with dementia, increasing their vulnerability to adverse outcomes. This Personal View presents expert recommendations for managing frailty in individuals with dementia, aimed at health-care providers, particularly those in primary care. We conducted a rapid literature review followed by a consensus process involving 18 international experts on dementia and frailty.

Pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors derived from chromaffin cells, with 80-85% originating in the adrenal medulla and 15-20% from extra-adrenal chromaffin tissues (paragangliomas). Approximately 30-40% of PPGLs have a hereditary component, making them one of the most genetically predisposed tumor types. Recent advances in genetic research have classified PPGLs into three molecular clusters: pseudohypoxia-related, kinase-signaling, and -signaling pathway variants.

Measuring transient functional connectivity is an important challenge in electroencephalogram (EEG) research. Here, the rich potential for insightful, discriminative information of brain activity offered by high-temporal resolution is confounded by the inherent noise of the medium and the spurious nature of correlations computed over short temporal windows. We propose a methodology to overcome these problems called filter average short-term (FAST) functional connectivity.

Patients with hemophilia disease have a high risk of hemorrhage. Most hemorrhages can occur in the musculoskeletal system, presenting as hematomas, or, in rare occasions, as hemophilic pseudotumors, an uncommon pathology that are often misdiagnosed as musculoskeletal tumors because of their clinical behavior and characteristics on diagnostic imaging. Despite many treatment options, surgical excision is the treatment of choice.

Floating elbow is a complex and rare entity caused by high-energy trauma. In this paper, we present the case of a patient who suffered a traffic accident with severe head trauma, floating elbow (humeral diaphyseal fracture, radial proximal diaphyseal fracture, and ulnar segmental fracture) and radial nerve injury. Fixations were made with a humeral plate and intramedullary rods in the forearm.

A 33-year-old male patient developed distal femur chronic osteomyelitis with massive bone loss after an open grade-3b fracture. Following several failed treatments to eradicate infection, a tibial turn-up procedure was performed to provide a stable and functional stump. To avoid neurovascular problems, the popliteal vessels and sciatic nerve were moved medially, and the flap was rotated externally to decrease the collapse.

Introduction And Importance: Introduction and importance: Bone tumors of the foot constitute 3 % of all bone tumors, within these, the location in the talus constitutes between 8 and 23 % of bone tumors. Within the oncological management of these lesions, preservation surgery has had a great boom in the last 10 years, however, the use of massive structural allograft is not a conventional surgery and there is little literature on its use, which is why we consider important to document clinical cases.
Case Presentation: we document 2 clinical cases of bone tumor in the talus that were surgically managed with tumor resection plus reconstruction with total and partial talus allograft.

Radial longitudinal deficiency III and IV present as a short upper limb, functional elbow, and wrist with severe radial and palmar angulation, where the carpus articulates with the radial and palmar edge of the ulna, allowing limited mobility in a nonfunctional position. Surgical treatment aims to correct radial angulation and flexed carpal position, often altering carpal positioning over the distal ulna and impacting wrist mobility. In addition, fixation through distal ulnar epiphysis affects its growth.

Agriculture 4.0 technologies continue to see low adoption among small and medium-sized farmers, primarily because these solutions often fail to account for the specific challenges of rural areas. In this work, we propose and implement a design methodology to develop a Precision Agriculture solution aimed at assisting farmers in managing water stress in Hass avocado crops.

In 2006, a PCR method was introduced to subtype by Sanger sequencing of an ≈610 bp amplicon of the 18S rRNA gene. This method, known as barcoding-PCR, has become widespread, although the primer pair used can amplify non- sequences, which can result in false positives. Barcoding-PCR is most effective with DNA extracted from cultures, limiting its sensitivity when used directly with stool samples.

Structural inequality, the uneven distribution of resources and opportunities, influences health outcomes. However, the biological embedding of structural inequality in aging and dementia, especially among underrepresented populations, is unclear. We examined the association between structural inequality (country-level and state-level Gini indices) and brain volume and connectivity in 2,135 healthy controls, and individuals with Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal lobe degeneration from Latin America and the United States.
