Objectives: While Colombians gained broad legal access to abortion in 2022, people still lack knowledge about its availability and face variable quality of care at health facilities. This study sought to understand whether online sellers provide the instructions and medication dosages necessary for effective medication abortions.

Design: The study design involved mystery clients contacting sellers identified across websites and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok) to purchase abortion pills.

Background And Objectives: The immature platelet fraction (IPF) count is a parameter that quantifies young and reticulated platelets in peripheral blood, which reflects platelet production in the bone marrow. Does Meaning in Life Mediate Associations Between Suffering and Subsequent Mental Well-Being? Longitudinal Evidence From Two Non-Western Samples.

Narrative accounts have documented the potential for suffering to degrade a person's well-being by undermining their sense of meaning in life, but few studies have investigated this among nonclinical samples living in non-Western contexts of the Global South. Leveraging data from a set of three-wave longitudinal studies with younger Indonesian (Study 1: Wave 1 [December 2020], Wave 2 [January 2021], Wave 3 [February 2021]; N = 620) and Colombian adults (Study 2: Wave 1 [August/September 2021], Wave 2 [October/November 2021], Wave 3 [February 2022]; N = 2626), the present research used causal mediation methods within a counterfactual framework to examine whether the associations between suffering (Wave 1) and subsequent anxiety symptoms, depression symptoms, and general mental health (Wave 3) are mediated by meaning in life (Wave 2). Mediation analyses in both studies provided some evidence indicating that overall suffering (Wave 1) is indirectly associated with worse subsequent mental well-being on all three outcomes (Wave 3) via lower meaning in life (Wave 2).

Background: The Endoscopic Endonasal Approach (EEA) has revolutionized the treatment landscape for optic pathway-hypothalamic gliomas (OPHGs) by providing precise visualization of the lesion neuroanatomic and minimizing brain manipulation. Despite the variable clinical trajectories of OPHGs, the optimal management neurosurgical strategy continues to be a subject of debate.

Methods: We present a case of an 8-year-old female with an OPHG who underwent EEA and performed a systematic review search in English and Spanish case reports from January 2007 (date of first reported case) to June 2024, focusing on OPHG treated with EEA.

In this study, we focused on Lake Tota (Colombia) as a model for investigating the impact of anthropogenic activities on lake productivity. Two sediment cores collected from the two main basins of the lake (Lago Grande and Lago Chico) were dated using alpha spectrometry for Pb. Changes in organic matter, carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios, C:N ratios, diatoms and elemental fractions were examined as indicators of productivity.

Terrestrial nanoparticles and geospatial optics: Implications for environmental impact from anthropogenic contaminants in the Caribbean region.

Atmospheric contaminants from natural processes and anthropogenic activities pose a major problem to the environment. Here we analyze the dynamics of atmospheric and terrestrial contaminant concentrations in sediments containing chemical elements, such as nanoparticles (NPs) and ultrafine particles in hydrological sources of the Caribbean region of Colombia. Terrestrial sediments were collected from 2022 to 2024, and quantified for major chemical elements in the form of NPs and ultrafine particles in runoff receiving areas along the banks of Colombia's Ciénaga Grande in Santa Marta Bay, on the Isla de Salamanca.

For the first time, using a chemical pollutant (an antibiotic) as a photosensitizer to improve the elimination of a microbiological contaminant of emerging concern (antibiotic-resistant bacteria) is presented. The effect of ciprofloxacin (CIP) on the inactivation of three light-promoted antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) was evaluated. Post-traumatic epilepsy: Insights from human cortical contused tissue.

Traumatic brain injury is a significant risk factor for the development of post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE), posing a major clinical challenge. This review discusses the critical role of GABAergic interneurons and reactive astrogliosis in the pathophysiology of post-traumatic epilepsy, integrating findings from our research group within the traumatic brain injury context with recent literature to highlight the impact of excitation-inhibition imbalance. We analyzed alterations in interneuron populations, specifically subtypes expressing the calcium-binding proteins parvalbumin, calretinin, and calbindin, and their association with an increased risk of epileptogenesis after TBI.
