Metal powders for additive manufacturing are expensive, and producing new ones from mined metals has a negative ecological impact. In this work, recycled and reused metal powders from MS1 steel for direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) 3D printing were evaluated in the laboratory. The powders were recycled by melting followed by gas atomizing.

Sepsis is a disease with a high mortality rate, which emphasizes the importance of developing tools for the early identification of high-risk patients and to initiate timely treatments to reduce mortality. The SIL score is a scale that uses the shock index and arterial lactate level to identify early on the patients that are at a high risk of in-hospital mortality due to sepsis. The purpose of this study was to validate the SIL score as a tool for estimating the probability of sepsis in-hospital mortality from the triage room in emergency departments.

Although the current literature has shown an increasing interest in surgical treatment of gastric cancer (GC) in older adults in recent years, there is still no consensus on proper management in this subgroup of patients. This study was designed with the objective of evaluating the current evidence that compares limited lymph node dissection with extended lymph node dissection in older adult patients (≥65 years) coursing with resectable GC. A systematic review of PubMed, Cochrane library, and ScienceDirect was performed according to PRISMA guidelines.

Background: Bronchiolitis is a seasonal viral infection of the respiratory tract that causes numerous childhood hospitalizations annually. Treatments vary based on severity, with mild cases requiring fluids and moderate to severe cases involving hospitalization with oxygen therapy, bronchodilators, and chest physiotherapy. Manual bronchial clearance techniques differ between Anglo-Saxon and European schools, and their effectiveness remains a subject of debate.

Introduction: The treatment for patients with high-grade gliomas includes surgical resection of tumor, radiotherapy, and temozolomide chemotherapy. However, some patients do not respond to temozolomide due to a methylation reversal mechanism by the enzyme O-methylguanine-DNA-methyltransferase (MGMT). In patients receiving treatment with temozolomide, this biomarker has been used as a prognostic factor.

In recent decades, Latin America and the Caribbean region have experienced accelerated aging. However, despite the significant progress of gerontology in the region, the number of geriatricians and professionals trained in the field is low; a notable gap in the training related to the assessment of older adults can also be observed. Therefore, in this literature review, we update the concept of Comprehensive Gerontological Assessment (CGA) for its application in the region.

Introduction: Third-generation therapies (TGTs) have been shown to be effective in the treatment of substance use behaviors in college-aged adolescents. These therapies are based on acceptance, mindfulness and psychological flexibility, which enable young people to change their Psychoactive Substance Use (PSU)-related behaviours, develop coping skills to manage difficult emotions and thoughts, reduce experiential avoidance and maintain long-term abstinence.
Objective: To explore the implementation and potential benefits of third-generation therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness, for the treatment of PSU in college youth.

The intricate relationships between chemical compounds and sensory descriptors in distilled spirits have long intrigued distillers, sensory experts, and consumers alike. The importance and complexity of this relation affect the production, quality, and appreciation of spirits, and the success of a product. Because of that, profoundly investigating the different flavor and aroma combinations that the chemical compounds can give to a desired beverage takes an essential place in the industry.

Biodegradable packaging offers an affordable and sustainable solution to global pollution, particularly in developing countries with limited recycling infrastructure. Starch is well suited to develop biodegradable packages for foods due to its wide availability and simple, low-tech production process. Although the development of starch-based packaging is well documented, most studies focus on the laboratory stages of formulation and plasticization, leaving gaps in understanding key phases such as raw material conditioning, industrial-scale molding, post-production processes, and storage.

This study evaluated the desorption of cadmium (Cd) from cocoa waste-derived flour using organic acids. Cocoa pods were collected from Antioquia and Casanare, Colombia, to analyze the geographical Cd content and its distribution within the pod tissues. Acid selection was performed using a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) matrix, and Cd desorption was assessed through a full factorial 2 experimental design, considering acid concentration, pulp density, and agitation speed.

Large wild mammals are extremely important in their respective ecological communities and are frequently considered to be emblematic. This is the case of the different tapir species, the largest terrestrial mammals from the Neotropics. Despite their large size and being objects of interest for many naturalists, the field still lacks critical genetics and systematics information about tapir species.

Katydids employ acoustic signals to communicate with others of their species and have evolved to generate sounds by coupling the anatomical structures of their forewings. However, some species have evolved to implement an additional resonance mechanism that enhances the transmission and sound pressure of the acoustic signals produced by the primary resonators. Secondary resonators, such as burrow cavities or horn-shaped structures, are found in the surrounding environment but could also occur as anatomical modifications of their bodies.
