The mismatch negativity (MMN) event-related potential (ERP) indexes relatively automatic detection of changes in sensory stimuli and is typically attenuated in individuals with schizophrenia. However, contributions of different frequencies of electroencephalographic (EEG) activity to the MMN and the later P3a attentional orienting response in schizophrenia are poorly understood and were the focus of the present study. Participants with a schizophrenia-spectrum disorder ( = 85) and non-psychiatric control participants ( = 74) completed a passive auditory oddball task containing 10% 50 ms "deviant" tones and 90% 100 ms "standard" tones.

A joint determination of the reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of ^{235}U and ^{239}Pu has been carried out by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT Collaborations. This Letter reports the level of consistency of ^{235}U spectrum measurements from the two experiments and presents new results from a joint analysis of both data sets. The measurements are found to be consistent.

The dual specificity phosphatase (DUSP) family has catalytically inactive members, called pseudophosphatases. They have mutations in their catalytic motifs that render them enzymatically inactive. This study analyzes the significance of two pseudophosphatases, MK-STYX [MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphoserine/threonine/tyrosine-binding protein]) and STYX (serine/threonine/tyrosine-interacting protein), throughout their evolution and provides measurements and comparison of their evolutionary conservation.

Sperm flagella formation is a complex process that requires cargo transport systems to deliver structural proteins for sperm flagella assembly. Two cargo transport systems, the intramanchette transport (IMT) and intraflagellar transport (IFT), have been shown to play critical roles in spermatogenesis and sperm flagella formation. IMT exists only in elongating spermatids, while IFT is responsible for delivering cargo proteins in the developing cilia/flagella.

Low-energy structures and electron affinities (EAs) for aluminum hydride clusters AlH ( = 3-13) have been calculated using and density functional calculations. Geometries were optimized at the PBE0/def-2-TZVPP level of theory, which has been shown to match the currently accepted lowest-energy structures for the all-aluminum clusters Al and their anions. Neutral hydride clusters with = 4, 7, and 9-12 are predicted to adopt terminal structures with the hydrogen atom bound to only one aluminum atom and with only minor alterations of the aluminum atom arrangement from that of the all-aluminum cluster.

High precision measurements of the polarized electron beam-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) from the proton have been performed using a 10.6 GeV incident electron beam and the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Lab. We report here a high precision multidimensional study of single π^{+} SIDIS data over a large kinematic range in Bjorken x, fractional energy, and transverse momentum of the hadron as well as photon virtualities Q^{2} ranging from 1-7  GeV^{2}.

While considerable evidence exists of biogeographic patterns in the intensity of species interactions, the influence of these patterns on variation in community structure is less clear. Studying how the distributions of traits in communities vary along global gradients can inform how variation in interactions and other factors contribute to the process of community assembly. Using a model selection approach on measures of trait dispersion in crustaceans associated with eelgrass () spanning 30° of latitude in two oceans, we found that dispersion strongly increased with increasing predation and decreasing latitude.

We incorporate explicit, non-perturbative treatment of spin-orbit coupling into ab initio auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo (AFQMC) calculations. The approach allows a general computational framework for molecular and bulk systems in which material specificity, electron correlation, and spin-orbit coupling effects can be captured accurately and on an equal footing, with favorable computational scaling vs system size. We adopt relativistic effective-core potentials that have been obtained by fitting to fully relativistic data and that have demonstrated a high degree of reliability and transferability in molecular systems.

Using a large, non-student sample, we assess and differentiate between borrowers' Risk Aversion and Ambiguity Aversion levels and their willingness to pay to resolve a mortgage default settlement negotiation. Ambiguity Aversion is found to be negatively associated with willingness to pay for borrowers with high financial literacy in both the gain and loss domains, whereas personality traits matter more for borrowers with low financial literacy. This finding is important to policymakers in that they should adopt differential resolution strategies for defaulting borrowers based on these intervening variables.

Symbiosis between insects and fungi arose multiple times during the evolution of both groups, and some of the most biologically diverse and economically important are mutualisms in which the insects cultivate and feed on fungi. Among these are bark beetles, whose ascomycetous cultivars are better known and studied than their frequently-overlooked and poorly understood basidiomycetous partners.
