The Hubbard model is an iconic model in quantum many-body physics and has been intensely studied, especially since the discovery of high-temperature cuprate superconductors. Combining the complementary capabilities of two computational methods, we found superconductivity in both the electron- and hole-doped regimes of the two-dimensional Hubbard model with next-nearest-neighbor hopping. In the electron-doped regime, superconductivity was weaker and was accompanied by antiferromagnetic Néel correlations at low doping.

To understand this paradox between trait-like and dyadic influences, the goal of the current study was to investigate children's emotion expression using a Social Relations Model (SRM) approach. Playgroups consisting typically of four same-sex unfamiliar nine-year-old children ( = 202) interacted in a round-robin format (6 dyads per group).

Meckel diverticulum is the most common congenital variation of the gastrointestinal tract arising from incomplete obliteration of the vitelline duct during gestation. In most cases, individuals are asymptomatic. This is a case of a 38-year-old patient with hematochezia in whom Meckel diverticulum was diagnosed.

Diabetic neuropathy is a debilitating disorder characterized by spontaneous and mechanical allodynia. The role of skin mechanoreceptors in the development of mechanical allodynia is unclear. We discovered that mice with diabetic neuropathy had decreased sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) deacetylase activity in foot skin, leading to reduced expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and subsequent loss of innervation in Meissner corpuscles, a mechanoreceptor expressing the BDNF receptor TrkB.

Complex structural chromosome abnormalities such as chromoanagenesis have been reported in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). They are usually not well characterized by conventional genetic methods, and the characterization of chromoanagenesis structural abnormalities from short-read sequencing still presents challenges. Here, we characterized complex structural abnormalities involving chromosomes 2, 3, and 7 in an AML patient using an integrated approach including CRISPR/Cas9-mediated nanopore sequencing, mate pair sequencing (MPseq), and SNP microarray analysis along with cytogenetic methods.

In this study, we examined how pre-exercise supplementation influences cell infiltration, CD34 cell recruitment, and Pax7 cell expansion in human skeletal muscle after high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) on a cycloergometer.

While many ectotherms improve thermal tolerance in response to prolonged thermal stress, little is known about the lasting effects of warm acclimation after returning to cooler temperatures. Furthermore, thermal stress may disproportionately impact threatened and endangered species. To address this, we repeatedly measured critical thermal maxima (CT; °C) and associated stress responses (hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration, plasma cortisol) of endangered subadult white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) in response to control temperature (pre-acclimation; 14°C), after 1 month at either control or warm temperature (acclimation; 14°C or 20°C), and after one smonth following return to control temperature (post-acclimation; 14°C).

In 1985, Carter and Cohen noted that there are several yet-to-be described species of Monomitopus (Ophidiidae), including one from Hawaii. Recently, blackwater divers collected a larval fish off Kona, Hawaii, similar to the previously described larvae of M. kumae, but DNA sequence data from the larva does not match any of the six previously sequenced species within the genus.

Altruistic punishment is a primary response to social norms violations; its neural mechanism has also attracted extensive research attention. In the present studies, we applied a low-frequency repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) while participants engaged in a modified Ultimatum Game (Study 1) and third-party punishment game (Study 2) to explore how the bilateral DLPFC disruption affects people's perception of violation of fairness norms and altruistic punishment decision in the gain and loss contexts. Typically, punishers intervene more often against and show more social outrage towards Dictators/Proposers who unfairly distribute losses than those who unfairly share gains.

Pseudophosphatases have been solidified as important signaling molecules that regulate signal transduction cascades. However, their mechanisms of action remain enigmatic. Reflecting this mystery, the prototypical pseudophosphatase STYX (phospho-serine-threonine/tyrosine-binding protein) was named with allusion to the river of the dead in Greek mythology to emphasize that these molecules are "dead" phosphatases.

CPT-11 is one of the drugs employed in colorectal cancer treatment and has faced challenges in the form of resistance. The insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor is a tyrosine kinase receptor that mediates cancer cell survival and drug resistance. It is frequently overexpressed in colorectal cancer and has previously been identified as a microRNA target.

Previously, a transposon mutant library for was created to support investigations aimed toward uncovering the genetic determinants of its pathogenesis.

Introduction: Oxygen is pivotal for wound healing. Its lack or hypoxia can delay this process, especially in individuals with comorbidities, potentially resulting in complex or hard-to-heal wounds. The Colombian Association of Diabetes (ACD) and the Colombian Association of Internal Medicine (ACMI) collaborated with a diverse group of experts to provide recommendations on the efficacy and best practices of continuous transdermal oxygen therapy (TOTc) in the care of such wounds.

Many disease-causing microbes are not obligate pathogens; rather, they are environmental microbes taking advantage of an ecological opportunity. The existence of microbes whose life cycle does not require a host and are not normally pathogenic, yet are well-suited to host exploitation, is an evolutionary puzzle. One hypothesis posits that selection in the environment may favor traits that incidentally lead to pathogenicity and virulence, or serve as pre-adaptations for survival in a host.

Pathological cardiac hypertrophy is a considerable contributor to global disease burden. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been used to treat cardiovascular diseases since antiquity. Enhancing stem cell-mediated recovery through CHM represents a promising approach for protection against doxorubicin (Dox)-induced cardiac hypertrophy.

Flowering, seed production, seed recruitment, and seedling establishment data for the seagrass was collected annually between 2013 and 2018 in meadows at six locations around Rottnest Island, Western Australia. Variable annual rates of flowering and seed production were observed among meadows between northern and southern sides of the island and among years.
