As an important forage legume with high values in feed and medicine, has been widely cultivated. The AP2/ERF transcription factor has been shown to play an important regulatory role in plant drought resistance, but it has not been reported in the legume forage crop . To digger the genes of in response to drought stress, we identified and analyzed the ERF gene family of at the genome-wide level.

Plant responses to single or combined abiotic stresses between aboveground and underground parts are complex and require crosstalk signaling pathways. In this study, we explored the transcriptome data of common vetch ( L.) subjected to cold and drought stress between leaves and roots meta-analysis to identify the hub abiotic stress-responsive genes.

The rumen of livestock grazing on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) acts as a transfer station for the circulation of soil, grass, faecal mineral elements and nutrients. Whether the microorganisms from the soil and grass could circulate through livestock rumen and excreted faeces. We studied the structural composition and interactive networks of microbiomes (bacteria and fungi) in soil, grass, and grazing yaks (rumen and faeces) on the QTP by using 16S rRNA gene and internally transcribed spacer (ITS) sequencing technology and to calculate the contribution rate of microorganisms from one habitat to another habitat using SourceTracker analysis.

The desertification reversal is a process of revegetation and natural restoration in fragile dryland areas due to human activities and climate change mediation. Understanding the impact of desertification reversion on terrestrial ecosystems, including vegetation greenness and photosynthetic capacity, is crucial for land policy-making and carbon-cycle model improvement. However, the phenomenon of desertification reversal is rarely mentioned in previous studies, which dramatically limits the understanding of vegetation dynamics in the arid area.

The alpine grasslands of the Tibetan Plateau store 23.2 Pg soil organic carbon, which becomes susceptible to microbial degradation with climate warming. However, accurate prediction of how the soil carbon stock changes under future climate warming is hampered by our limited understanding of belowground complex microbial communities.

The yak (), an indigenous bovine on the Qinghai-Tibetan plateau (QTP), is reported to digest low quality forage to a greater extent and to require less protein and energy for maintenance than the introduced Qaidam cattle (). Ruminal bacteria play a major role in feed degradation, and therefore, we hypothesized that ruminal bacteria composition would differ between yaks and cattle, and confer an advantage to yaks for poor quality diets. To test our hypothesis, we determined the ruminal bacteria profiles, rumen fermentation parameters, and enzyme activities in these bovine species consuming a low-protein diet differing in energy level.

This study cloned the full-length cDNA sequence of ovine using the rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) method and analyzed the expression profile and copy number variation (CNV) of using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR). The results revealed that the cDNA was 2099 bp in length with an open reading frame (ORF) of 1536 bp encoding 511 amino acids.

When plants are subjected to various biotic and abiotic stresses, the root system responds actively by secreting different types and amounts of bioactive compounds, while affects the structure of rhizosphere soil bacterial community. Therefore, understanding plant-soil-microbial interactions, especially the strength of microbial interactions, mediated by root exudates is essential. A short-term experiment was conducted under drought and salt stress to investigate the interaction between root exudates and rhizosphere bacterial communities.

Toxic plants are a natural component of alpine meadow which co-evolved with Tibetan sheep for thousands of years. One challenge for indigenous herders is to know the ecological thresholds of toxic plants and maintain their vital functions in ways that are compatible with economic income and ecological conservation. To achieve this, field trials with Tibetan sheep grazing in alpine meadow were conducted to examine the ecological thresholds of toxic plants for sheep production and ecosystem functions and their trade-offs.

A feeding experiment was conducted to determine the effects of inoculating alfalfa silage with a ferulic acid esterase-producing inoculum on feed digestibility, rumen fermentation, antioxidant, and immunity status of lactating dairy goats. Twenty dairy goats were distributed into 2 experimental groups consisting of control diet (Lp MTD/1, including MTD/1 inoculated silage) against diet containing silage treated with ferulic acid esterase-producing A1 (Lp A1). Alfalfa silage inoculated with a ferulic acid esterase-producing Lp A1 had better fermentation quality than the Lp MTD/1 inoculation.

Disturbance by small burrowing herbivores often has an impact on plant aboveground biomass of grassland because it makes grasslands into a mosaic of discrete vegetated surfaces and bare soil patches. This study focuses on the plateau pika () to investigate the effect of the disturbance by a small burrowing herbivore on plant aboveground biomass through upscaling the quadrat scale to the plot scale across five sites. This study showed that the plateau pika disturbance reduced sedge biomass and increased forb biomass.

Background: Alpine meadows, typical steppes, and deserts are among the globally important rangeland types that are generally distributed along temperature and precipitation gradients. Mineral losses caused by grazing are one of the key factors that can lead to instability or even degradation of these rangeland ecosystems.
Methods: We examined the concentrations of Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn in soil, forage, and livestock dungs from diverse rangeland types in northwest China, to determine the relationships between these trace elements (TEs) concentrations and climatic factors (i.

Grasslands are the most dominant terrestrial ecosystem in China, but few national grassland maps have been generated. The grassland resource map produced in the 1980s is widely used as background data, but it has not been updated for almost 40 years. Therefore, a reliable map depicting the current spatial distribution of grasslands across the country is urgently needed.
