Fisetin is a naturally occurring flavonoid that possesses several pharmacological benefits including anti-inflammatory activity. However, its precise anti-inflammatory mechanism is not clear. In the present study, we found that fisetin significantly inhibited the expression of proinflammatory mediators, such as nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E (PGE), and cytokines, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.

Background: Olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) is one of the major cultured fish species in Asia including Korea. However, the mass mortality of olive flounder caused by various pathogens leads to huge economic loss. The pathogens that lead to fish mortality include parasites, bacteria, and viruses that can cause various kinds of diseases.

Purpose: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs and are involved in the development, proliferation, and pathogenesis of prostate cancer (PCa). Urinary miRNAs are promising non-invasive biomarkers for PCa diagnosis because of their stability in urine. Here, we evaluated the diagnostic value of urinary miR-1913 to miR-3659 ratio in PCa patients and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) controls.

The authors assessed the feasibility of community classes for people with MS and explored outcomes of balance, gait, and quality of life (QOL). Twenty adults with MS were randomly assigned to 10 weeks of community classes or wait-list control.

In addition to endocrine disruption, bisphenol A (BPA) is known to induce inflammation through the activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). However, detailed studies on the mechanism of NF-κB activation by BPA have not been sufficiently conducted. In the present study, we observed that low concentrations of BPA (≤1 μM) upregulated the release of proinflammatory mediators, including nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E (PGE), as well as proinflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-12, and IL-6.

The vertebrate genome contains an endogenous retrovirus that has been inherited from the past millions of years. Although approximately 8% of human chromosomal DNA consists of sequences derived from human endogenous retrovirus (HERV) fragments, most of the HERVs are currently inactive and noninfectious due to recombination, deletions, and mutations after insertion into the host genome. Several studies suggested that Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) factors are significantly related to certain cancers.

Banhahoobak-tang is the most prescribed herbal drug in East Asia when individuals experience sudden symptoms such as sore throat or neurological symptoms. The low toxicity and high in-vivo safety of this herbal medicine has made it more attractive to patients, and it has recently been formulated as tablets. In addition, Banhahoobak-tang tablets are registered as health insurance drugs in South Korea, and clinical prescriptions and demand are increasing.

Licorice and dried ginger decoction (Gancao-ganjiang-tang, LGD) is used for nausea and anorexia, accompanied by excessive sweating in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Herein, we investigated the therapeutic effects of LGD using the activity-based anorexia (ABA) in a mouse model. Six-week-old female BALB/c AnNCrl mice were orally administered LGD, water, licorice decoction, dried ginger decoction, or chronic olanzapine, and their survival, body weight, food intake, and wheel activity were compared in ABA.

Cardiac hypertrophy is a major risk factor for heart failure and leads to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Doxorubicin (DOX) is regarded as one of the most potent anthracycline antibiotic agents; however, its clinical usage has some limitations because it has serious cardiotoxic side effects such as dilated cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Betulinic acid (BA) is a pentacyclic-cyclic lupane-type triterpene that has been reported to have anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-vascular neogenesis, and anti-fibrotic effects.

Hypertriglyceridemia is a condition characterized by high triglyceride levels and is a major risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. The present study was designed to investigate the inhibitory effect of roasted (RN), which is a medicinal substance produced by heating lotus leaves, on lipid metabolism in high fat/cholesterol (HFC) diet-induced hypertriglyceridemia. Except for those in the control group, Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an HFC diet for four weeks to induce hypertriglyceridemia.

Background: There is an increasing demand for prognostic immune biomarkers of cancer. The prognostic significance of immune markers has been shown for various cancers, but biomarkers of bladder cancer (BCa) have not been fully evaluated. To clarify the role of human leukocyte antigen DR alpha chain (HLA-DRA) in BCa development, we examined expression of HLA-DRA mRNA in tissue samples of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC).

Purpose: Indirubin-3'-monoxime (I3M) induces cell death in many cancer cells; however, whether I3M regulates paraptosis is unclear. The present study aimed to investigate I3M-induced paraptosis.
Methods: We treated various cancer cells with I3M, and measured vacuole formation (a paraptosis marker) and the regulating signaling pathway such as endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, reactive oxygen species, and proteasomal dysfunction.

The health beneficial effects of walnut plentiful of -3 polyunsaturated fatty acid had been attributed to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties against various clinical diseases. Since we have published -1 transgenic mice overexpressing significantly mitigated ()-associated gastric pathologies including rejuvenation of chronic atrophic gastritis and prevention of gastric cancer, in this study, we have explored the underlying molecular mechanisms of walnut against infection. Fresh walnut polyphenol extracts (WPE) were found to suppress the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) induced by infection in RGM-1 gastric mucosal cells.

Therefore, in this study, treatment of showed protective effect of inhibiting the vascular inflammation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) by inducing nitric oxide (NO) production and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) coupling pathway. In this study, suppressed TNF-α (Tumor necrosis factor-α) induced protein and mRNA levels of cell adhesion molecules such as intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6).

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people die because of metastatic brain cancer. Most metastatic cancer research uses 2D cell culture or animal models, but they have a few limitations, such as difficulty reproducing human tissue structures. This study developed a simple 3D in vitro model to better replicate brain metastasis using human cancer cells and human embryonic stem cell-derived cerebral organoids (metastatic brain cancer cerebral organoid [MBCCO]).
