Introduction: Workplace violence (WPV) is a common experience among healthcare workers in the United States. Although WPV may affect workers physically, WPV can also affect workers' mental health. Emergency department (ED) workers' perceptions of available and necessary WPV support have not been previously reported.

Background: Globally, the number of older adults is increasing rapidly; simultaneously, there is an epidemiological shift toward chronic diseases. One such chronic disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) which is caused either by the inability to produce insulin or due to the ineffective use of insulin. In recent years, self-management programmes for chronic conditions have gained importance, especially among occupational therapists.

Debriefing is a specific type of reflective learning. Debriefing follows an experience, with the goal of taking meaningful learning away from the experience. It is often used following a simulation-based educational experience but the same techniques can be used following actual clinical care.

Introduction: Secondary data analysis is a cost-effective, accessible, and efficient means of utilizing existing data to answer new research questions.

Purpose: To test feasibility of the Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment: Symptom and Technology Management Resources intervention for caregivers of children who require medical technologies of tracheostomies and feeding tubes.

Design And Methods: Quasi-experimental one group design with measures at baseline and at 4 weeks. Intervention feasibility was tested from August 2019-June 2021, including recruitment, retention, and adherence, and caregiver satisfaction.

The application of communication accommodation theory to understand receiver reactions in healthcare speaking up interactions.

Speaking up for patient safety is a well-documented, complex communication interaction, which is challenging both to teach and to implement into practice. In this study we used Communication Accommodation Theory to explore receivers' perceptions and their self-reported behaviors during an actual speaking up interaction in a health context. Intergroup dynamics were evident across interactions.

Ability and Willingness to Participate in Dementia Clinical Research: A Qualitative Study.

Background And Objective: Dementia clinical research studies have difficulty recruiting and enrolling participants and their study partners. Through convening and working with a community advisory board and the incorporation of the perspectives of people living with dementia and caregivers, this study utilized a community-engaged approach to identify factors affecting dementia clinical research participation.

Methods: In this qualitative study, 24 participants (12 people living with dementia and 12 caregivers), half of whom participated in dementia clinical research, were interviewed.

The influence of professional identity on how the receiver receives and responds to a speaking up message: a cross-sectional study.

Background: Research focused on understanding what enables or hinders health professionals to speak up about a safety concern has been to date predominately atheoretical and speaker focused. However, the role the receiver of the message plays in these often-difficult encounters is highly influential. To date, speaking up programs have created conversational mnemonics that technically should respectfully engage the receiver, yet speaking up remains challenging.

Racial/Ethnic Differences in Association Between Medicaid Expansion and Causes and Costs of Readmission After Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine whether the relative frequency of leading causes and total associated costs of readmission after acute ischemic stroke changed with Medicaid expansion, and how these changes differed by racial/ethnic group.

Methods: We used a difference-in-differences approach to compare changes in the relative frequency of leading causes of unplanned 30-day readmission and to examine changes in the costs associated with unplanned readmission between expansion states (AR, MD, NM, and WA) and non-expansion states (FL and GA). To estimate the differential effect of Medicaid expansion by race/ethnicity on the causes and cost of readmission, we added a time*treatment*race interaction.
