The present work describes the synthesis of a cellulose and gelatin based hydrogel by the grafting of poly(acrylic acid) using ammonium persulphate (APS)-glutaraldehyde as the initiator-crosslinker system. The structure of the hydrogel was studied through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and FTIR. The maximum swelling rate of C-G-g-poly(AA) was found to be 92 g g at pH 10.

The presented study aims to identify and quantify the natural radionuclides activity concentrations on the top and sub-soils around mechanic workshops in Ojo and Ijegun, Lagos, Nigeria. Based on these measured radionuclides activity concentrations, radiological hazard indices are assessed. Twenty oil-contaminated soil samples were collected, and the levels of natural radionuclides activity are measured by applying gamma spectrometry The measured radionuclides with authoritative regularity are linked with the natural decay series of U (Ra) and Th as well as the series of non-decay K.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether combined inter-vention of treadmill exercise and bone marrow stromal cell (BMSC) transplantation would affect the expression of neurotrophic factors in the sciatic nerve injury (SNI) and neuropathic pain-related cascades in ipsilateral lumbar 4-5 dorsal root ganglion (DRG) during the early or late stage of sciatic nerve regeneration. The rats were randomly divided into the normal control group (CONT, n=6), sedentary group (SS, n=24), exercise group (SE, n=24), BMSC transplantation group (SB, n=24), BMSC transplantation+exercise group (SBE, n=24) 1, 2, 3, and 5 weeks after SNI. Single dose of 5×10 harvested BMSC was injected into the injury area sing by a 30 gauge needle.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the time-dependent alteration in whether concurrent aerobic exercise and bone marrow stromal cell (BMSC) engraftment could regulate myogenic differentiation-related signaling pathway in the soleus up to 35 days after sciatic nerve injury (SNI). The rats were divided as follows: the normal control (CON, n=5), sedentary group (SED, n=20), treadmill exercise group (TEX, n=20), BMSC transplantation group (BMSC, n=20), TEX+BMSC transplantation group (TEX+BMSC, n=20) 7, 14, 21, and 35 days after SNI. SNI was applied into the thigh and treadmill exercise was comprised of walking at a speed of 4 to 8 m/min for 30 min once a day.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of pulsed light application (exposure to a pulsed light beam (PL) of 400 Hz for a period of 60 s, with an energy dose of 600 mW and wavelengths of 660 and 405 nm) on the physicochemical, technological, and sensory properties, as well as the nutritional value and shelf life of cold-storage pig longissimus dorsi muscle. Each muscle was divided into six parts, three of which were control samples, and the rest were exposed to pulsed light. The detailed laboratory tests of the meat were conducted 1, 7, and 10 days after slaughter.

This study aimed to exploring the pathophysiological mechanism of 7α,25-dihydroxycholesterol (7α,25-DHC) in osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis. 7α,25-DHC accelerated the proteoglycan loss in organ-cultured articular cartilage explant. It was mediated by the decreasing extracellular matrix major components, including aggrecan and type II collagen, and the increasing expression and activation of degenerative enzymes, including matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3 and -13, in chondrocytes cultured with 7α,25-DHC.

The impact of the gut microbiota on glial cell growth and maturation via the gut-brain axis is highlighted herein. Considering that glial activation is crucial for onset and maintenance of neuropathic pain, we assessed the putative involvement of gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain. Depletion of mouse gut microbiota with chronic antibiotics cocktail treatment prevented nerve injury-induced mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia both in male and female mice.

The first base-mediated [4 + 2] annulation of δ-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated ketones with azlactones has been developed, through which 3,4-disubstituted 3-amino-δ-lactones were obtained in good yields and with excellent diastereoselectivities. This approach was also applied to the [4 + 2] annulation of δ-sulfonamido-α,β-unsaturated ketones, which provided a practical protocol for constructing biologically important 3-amino-δ-lactam frameworks.

Indole-3-carbinol is produced from the cruciferous vegetables and broadly investigated for their various biological effects in in-vitro and in-vivo aspects. However, the anticancer activity of I3C and its molecular mechanisms have not been investigated in human adeno gastro carcinoma (AGS) cells. In our study of AGS cells, nuclear condensation was observed by 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining, cell death was confirmed by a cell viability assay, and fragmented DNA was observed at the IC dose by a DNA fragmentation assay.

This study describes a molecular dynamics computational modelling informed bioengineering of nano-scaled 2-D hydronium jarosite. More specifically, a phyto-engineering approach using green nano-chemistry and agro-waste in the form of avocado seed natural extract was utilized as a green, economic, and eco-friendly approach to synthesize this unique mineral at the nanoscale via the reduction of iron (II) sulphate heptahydrate. The nanoproduct which was found to exhibit a quasi-2D structure was characterized using a multi-technique approach to describe its morphological, optical, electrochemical, and magnetic properties.

Formyl peptide receptors (FPRs), which are seven-membrane G-protein coupled receptors, recognize chemotactic signals to protect hosts from pathogenic infections and mediate inflammatory responses in the body. There are three isoforms of FPRs in humans-FPR1, FPR2, and FPR3-and they bind to N-formyl peptides, except FPR3, and to various endogenous agonists. Among FPR family members, FPR2 has a lower affinity for N-formyl peptides than FPR1 and binds with a wide range of endogenous or exogenous agonists.

Plants-releasing exosome-like nanovesicles (PENs) contain miRNA, bioactive lipids, mRNAs, and proteins to exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative activity. Substances extracted from yams have been reported to promote osteoblast growth in bone regeneration, which prevent weak and brittle bones in osteoporosis. Herein, we describe the beneficial effects of yam-derived exosome-like nanovesicles (YNVs) on promoting differentiation and mineralization of osteoblasts for bone regeneration in ovariectomized (OVX)-induced osteoporotic mice.
