Background: Mind bomb 1 (MIB1) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that promotes the polyubiquitination-mediated degradation of NOTCH ligands and plays an important role in various cancers by enhancing tumor cell proliferation. Also, MIB1 inhibited the cell cycle progression by transcriptional repression of P21 in HCT116 cells. Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) is a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) that plays a significant role in the progression of various cancers.

Background: The effects of microbiota on the host phenotypes can differ substantially depending on their age. Longitudinally measured microbiome data allow for the detection of the age modification effect and are useful for the detection of microorganisms related to the progression of disease whose identification change over time. Moreover, longitudinal analysis facilitates the estimation of the within-subject covariate effect, is robust to the between-subject confounders, and provides better evidence for the causal relationship than cross-sectional studies.

Inflammation is essential for pathogen eradication and tissue repair; However, chronic inflammation can bring on multi-organ dysfunction due to an overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Among various anti-inflammatory agents, polyphenol-based nanotherapeutics offer potential advantages, including enhanced stability, targeted delivery, multiple therapeutic functions, and personalized therapy tailored to the severity. Despite these advantages, the development of biocompatible nanomedicines capable of selective accumulation in inflamed tissues and efficient inhibition of ROS-induced inflammatory signaling pathways remains a considerable challenge.

Glycogen, an α-1,4 linked glucose polymer with α-1,6 linked branches, accumulates in Sulfolobus acidocaldarius in granular form and contributes to stress resistance. While the glg operon responsible for glycogen metabolism has been studied, the gene responsible for branch formation remained elusive. Interestingly, the ΔAmyA mutant failed to accumulate glycogen.

Atlantification-the northward inflow of anomalous waters and biota from the Atlantic into the polar basins-has wide-ranging climatological ramifications. We present previously unknown observational evidence that the atlantification processes are strengthening in the eastern Eurasian Basin. The primary example is the diminishing sea ice, which is related to a powerful ocean-heat/ice-albedo feedback, which accelerates sea-ice losses.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is marked by neurodegeneration that follows the destruction of dopaminergic neurons, mainly localized to the substantia nigra. It results in debilitating motor as well as non-motor symptoms. The current study investigated the neuroprotective potential of emodin, a naturally occurring anthraquinone derivative, in a well-established model of PD in mice induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP).

Pregnane derivatives such as pregnenolone or progesterone and many other metabolites are important in mammals where many of them act as hormones including sexual hormones. Much less is known about the presence and functions of pregnane derivatives in plants. The main objectives of this work were (1) to determine the presence of pregnane derivatives in winter wheat (2) verify if there are changes of concentration of pregnane derivatives during wheat growth/development with special attention to vernalisation process (3) to answer the question of whether selected pregnane derivatives are stimulators of wheat development and whether the potential stimulation of this development is accompanied by the expression of the Vrn1 (Vernalisation1) gene.

Background: Gene transfer between the organelles and the nucleus plays a central role in shaping plant genome evolution. The identification and analysis of nuclear DNA of plastid (NUPTs) and mitochondrial (NUMTs) origins are important for exploring the extent of intracellular DNA transfer in genomes.
Results: We report the complete plastid and mitochondrial genomes (plastome and mitogenome) of Cicuta virosa (Apiaceae) as well as a draft nuclear genome using high-fidelity (HiFi) PacBio sequencing technologies.

The protective effects of mangiferin (MAG) against etoposide- and high glucose (HG)-induced DNA damage and aging were investigated in human bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs). Etoposide, a topoisomerase II inhibitor, was used to induce double-strand breaks (DSBs) in hBM-MSCs, resulting in increased genotoxicity, elevated levels of the DNA damage sensor ATM and CDKN1A, and decreased levels of the aging markers H3 and H4. MAG activated AMPK and SIRT1, thus protecting against DSB-induced damage.

Background: The cellular prion protein (PrP), a glycoprotein encoded by the PRNP gene, is known to modulate muscle mass and exercise capacity. However, the role of PrP in the maintenance and regeneration of skeletal muscle during ageing remains unclear.
Methods: This study investigated the change in PrP expression during muscle formation using C2C12 cells and evaluated muscle function in Prnp wild-type (WT) and knock-out (KO) mice at different ages (1, 9 and 15 months).

Cells regulate gene expression through various RNA regulatory mechanisms, and this regulation often becomes less efficient with age, contributing to accelerated aging and various age-related diseases. Nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), a well-characterized RNA surveillance mechanism, degrades aberrant mRNAs with premature termination codons (PTCs) to prevent the synthesis of truncated proteins. While the role of NMD in cancer and developmental and genetic diseases is well documented, its implications in human aging remain largely unexplored.

In this article, we proposed a new method named fused mixed graphical model (FMGM), which can infer network structures associated with dichotomous phenotypes. FMGM is based on a pairwise Markov random field model, and statistical analyses including the proposed method were conducted to find biological markers and underlying network structures of the atopic dermatitis (AD) from multiomics data of 6-month-old infants. The performance of FMGM was evaluated with simulations by using synthetic datasets of power-law networks, showing that FMGM had superior performance for identifying the differences of the networks compared to the separate inference with the previous method, causalMGM (F1-scores 0.

Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest gynecologic cancers affecting the female reproductive tract. This is largely attributed to frequent recurrence and development of resistance to the platinum-based drugs cisplatin and carboplatin. One of the major contributing factors to increased cancer progression and resistance to chemotherapy is the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Twenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group (n=6), SCI+sedentary group (SED, n=6), SCI+treadmill exercise group (TREAD, n=6), and SCI+swimming exercise group (SWIM, n=6). All rats in the SCI group were given the rest for 2 weeks after SCI, and then they were allowed to engage in low-intensity exercise for 6 weeks on treadmill device.
