A 66-year-old male presented to the emergency department (ED) with altered mental status and concern for stroke. Seven months prior to presentation, the patient was diagnosed with a benign gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), for which he did not receive further workup. Initially, there was a concern for a stroke, however, CT of the brain, CT angiography of the head and neck, and MRI of the brain were negative for any acute abnormalities.

Purpose: To develop an in-plane simultaneous multisegment (IP-SMS) imaging technique using a 2D-RF pulse and to demonstrate its ability to achieve high spatial resolution in EPI while reducing image distortion.
Methods: The proposed IP-SMS technique takes advantage of periodic replicates of the excitation profile of a 2D-RF pulse to simultaneously excite multiple segments within a slice. These segments were acquired over a reduced FOV and separated using a joint GRAPPA reconstruction by leveraging virtual coils that combined the physical coil sensitivity and 2D-RF pulse spatial response.

Recent case reports and studies on treating COVID-19 in patients with chronic sarcoidosis describe different treatment modalities ranging from glucocorticoids to biologic medications. This review article summarizes seven case series and reports totaling 46 patients. While one case report suggested that sarcoidosis medications such as glucocorticoids may lengthen the COVID-19 disease course, another study with a larger registry suggests they do not.

Background: Overprescription of opioids has fueled an epidemic of addiction and overdose deaths. The FDA required manufacturers of extended-release/long-acting (ER/LA) opioids to fund continuing medical education (CME) on opioids as part of a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS).
Objectives: We sought to determine whether industry-funded REMS on long-acting opioids were consistent with the FDA's goal to reduce serious, adverse outcomes resulting from inappropriate prescribing, misuse, and abuse.

Purpose: To review the published literature to determine the efficacy and safety of homeopathic agents or vitamins in reducing ecchymosis after oculofacial surgery or laser surgery.
Methods: A literature search was conducted in the PubMed database initially in December 2019 and updated in March 2020 to identify all studies in the English language literature on the use of homeopathic agents or vitamins in oculofacial procedures, including laser surgery. The search yielded 124 citations, and 11 articles met all inclusion criteria for this assessment.

Background: The impact of transanal local excision (TAE) of early rectal cancer (ERC) on subsequent completion rectal resection (CRR) for unfavorable histology or margin involvement is unclear. The aim of this study was to provide a comprehensive review of the literature on the impact of TAE on CRR in patients without neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
Methods: We performed a systematic review of the literature up to March 2020.

Many methods have been described to reduce postoperative ecchymosis in rhinoplasty with tranexamic acid (TXA) remaining controversial. TXA remains a consideration for surgeons, however, may have serious side effects, including seizures, blood clots, and vision changes. A prospective study of primary rhinoplasty patients was performed from March 2019 to June 2019.

We developed the first Fear of False Accusations scale, measuring the public's fear of personally being the target of untrue child sexual abuse allegations despite no actual wrongdoing as well as the fear of false allegations being a common problem in society. The scale was statistically reliable within a diverse sample of 964 participants. Several months later, in an ostensibly unrelated mock trial experiment, a subset of the participants assumed the role of mock juror and considered a criminal case involving an accusation of child sexual abuse.

HCC incidence continues to increase worldwide and is most frequently discovered at an advanced stage when limited curative options are available. Combination locoregional therapies have emerged to improve patient survival and quality of life or downstage patients to curative options. The increasing options for locoregional therapy combinations require an understanding of the expected post-treatment imaging appearance in order to assess treatment response.

Unicuspid aortic valve (UAV) stenosis is a rare condition accounting for 5% of non-rheumatic aortic stenosis. The diagnosis can be difficult to make prior to surgical intervention and transesophageal echocardiography has been demonstrated to be more accurate in making the diagnosis compared to transthoracic echocardiography. The presence of a posteriorly located aortic orifice on the short-axis views, with one or two visible raphe anteriorly; the absence of commissures (acommissural); or the presence of a lone commissure (unicommissural) between the left and noncoronary, or the left and right cusps suggests the diagnosis.

Background: A key strategy for mitigating the current opioid epidemic is expanded access to medications for treating opioid use disorder (MOUD). However, interventions developed to expand MOUD access have limited ability to engage opioid users at higher levels of overdose risk, such as those who inject opioids. This paper describes the study protocol for testing STAMINA (Syringe Service Telemedicine Access for Medication-assisted Intervention through NAvigation), an intervention that engages high-risk opioid users at community-based syringe service programs (SSP) and quickly links them to MOUD using a telemedicine platform.

Team-based learning (TBL), which encourages students to become active rather than passive learners, has gained world-wide popularity in medical education due to its proven positive effect on more than one aspect of the educational process. At King Abdulaziz University (KAU), clinical biochemistry is still taught in the form of didactic lectures, and while there is a need for introducing active learning, student learning response from TBL has not been explored. In this quasi-experimental non-equivalent comparison group design, we compared learning outcomes and student satisfaction in a clinical biochemistry course taught either via TBL to second year clinical nutrition students (n = 33) or via traditional lectures to same year nursing students (n = 70).

Myocardial injury is a common complication of the COVID-19 illness and is associated with a worsened prognosis. Systemic hyperinflammation seen in the advanced stage of COVID-19 likely contributes to myocardial injury. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is the preferred imaging modality for non-invasive evaluation in acute myocarditis, enabling risk stratification and prognostication.

Precise form-fitting of prosthetic sockets is important for the comfort and well-being of persons with limb amputations. Capabilities for continuous monitoring of pressure and temperature at the skin-prosthesis interface can be valuable in the fitting process and in monitoring for the development of dangerous regions of increased pressure and temperature as limb volume changes during daily activities. Conventional pressure transducers and temperature sensors cannot provide comfortable, irritation-free measurements because of their relatively rigid construction and requirements for wired interfaces to external data acquisition hardware.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer-enclosed extracellular particles carrying rich cargo such as proteins, lipids, and microRNAs with distinct characteristics of their parental cells. EVs are emerging as an important form of cellular communication with the ability to selectively deliver a kit of directional instructions to nearby or distant cells to modulate their functions and phenotypes. According to their biogenesis, EVs can be divided into two groups: those of endocytic origin are called exosomes and those derived from outward budding of the plasma membrane are called microvesicles (also known as ectosomes or microparticles).

Present-day dermatological diagnostic tools are expensive, time-consuming, require substantial operational expertise, and typically probe only the superficial layers of skin (~15 μm). We introduce a soft, battery-free, noninvasive, reusable skin hydration sensor (SHS) adherable to most of the body surface. The platform measures volumetric water content (up to ~1 mm in depth) and wirelessly transmits data to any near-field communication-compatible smartphone.

Introduction: Cerebral salt wasting syndrome (CSWS) is a cause of hyponatremia in the setting of intracranial pathologies such as Central Nervous System (CNS) trauma, infections, and tumors. It is important to differentiate CSWS from the syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) as their management differs. CSWS leads to hypovolemia as opposed to euvolemia or hypervolemia in SIADH.
