Article Synopsis
  • Hybrid ESD is a newer technique gaining attention for treating laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) compared to traditional ESD.
  • A study analyzed outcomes from 890 patients who underwent ESD, revealing that hybrid ESD resulted in shorter procedure times and lower hospitalization costs but had a lower R0 resection rate.
  • For LSTs sized 10-30 mm, hybrid ESD is a viable option that balances cost savings and operative efficiency without sacrificing resection quality.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer vesicles containing proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and metabolites secreted by cells under various physiological and pathological conditions that mediate intercellular communication. The main types of EVs include exosomes, microvesicles, and apoptotic bodies (ABs). ABs are vesicles released during the terminal stages of cellular apoptosis, enriched with diverse biological entities and characterized by distinct morphological features.

Article Synopsis
  • This study collected data from over 35,000 COVID-19 patients in China to analyze the rates of olfactory (smell) and gustatory (taste) dysfunctions following infection.!
  • Findings revealed a 67.75% incidence rate of these dysfunctions, with factors like gender, smoking, vaccination doses, and oral health affecting both the likelihood of experiencing and recovering from these symptoms.!
  • On average, smell and taste scores declined significantly after infection but showed some recovery over time, with 59.16% of patients reporting improvement, though some experienced prolonged symptoms lasting over 28 days.!

AlphaMissense is proficient in predicting the clinical classification of missense variants. we utilized AlphaMissense to find disease-relevant variants within a polymicrobial pulmonary infection case. Exome sequencing was performed in this patient, and AlphaMissense and Phenolyzer were combined to investigate disease-relevant variants screening from exome sequencing results.

Calcipotriol (CAL) has been widely studied as a fibrosis inhibitor and used to treat plaque psoriasis via transdermal administration. The clinical application of CAL to treat liver fibrosis is bottlenecked by its unsatisfactory pharmacokinetics, biodistribution, and side effects, such as hypercalcemia in patients. The exploration of CAL as a safe and effective antifibrotic agent remains a major challenge.
