Purpose: To investigate the clinical and objective outcomes of meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) using bone fixation in patients after a minimum follow-up duration of 15 years and to compare the demographic factors and allograft status between patients who experienced progression of osteoarthritis and those who did not.
Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent primary MAT between December 1996 and January 2008 were reviewed retrospectively. The inclusion criterion was primary MAT with a minimum follow-up duration of 15 years.

Background: The prevalent location and incidence of intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) and invasive carcinoma associated with them have varied markedly among studies due to differences in diagnostic criteria and tumor location.
Methods: IPNBs were classified into two types: Type 1 IPNB, being histologically similar to intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas, and Type 2 IPNB, having a more complex histological architecture with irregular papillary branching or foci of solid-tubular components. Medical data were evaluated.

Dept. of Pathology, Dongguk University College of Medicine (Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital), South Korea.
Background: IPNB is very rare disease and most previous studies on IPNB were case series with a small number due to low incidence. The aim of this study is to validate previously known clinicopathologic features of intraductal papillary neoplasm of bile duct (IPNB) based on the first largest multicenter cohort.
Methods: Among 587 patients previously diagnosed with IPNB and similar diseases from each center in Korea, 387 were included in this study after central pathologic review.

Background: The notion that neutral alignment is mandatory to assure long-term durability after TKA has been based mostly on short-film studies. However, this is challenged by recent long-film studies.
Questions/purposes: We conducted this long-film study to know (1) whether the risk of aseptic revision for nontraumatic reasons was greater among knees with greater than 3° varus or valgus (defined as "outliers") than those that were aligned within 3° of neutral on long-standing mechanical axis (hip to knee) radiographs; and (2) what the failure mechanisms were and whether the malalignment was femoral or tibial in origin, or both, among those in the outlier group.

Background: Infantile spasms (IS) is a devastating epileptic encephalopathy. The ketogenic diet (KD) has been successfully used as a treatment for IS. This study was designed to test whether beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), a major metabolite of the KD, is effective in an animal model of IS.

We examined the mechanism of endothelin (ET)-1 regulation by cigarette smoke extract (CSE) and the effect of platelets on CSE-induced stimulation of ET-1 gene expression in human and bovine pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAECs). Our data show that CSE (1%) induces ET-1 gene expression (after 1 h) and ET-1 peptide synthesis (after 4 h) in bovine PAECs. The induction of preproET-1 mRNA level was due to de novo transcription, and new protein synthesis was not required for this induction.

We investigated the mechanism of Endothelin-1 regulation by transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) in bovine pulmonary artery endothelial cells (BPAECs) and in isolated perfused rat lungs. Our data show that TGF-beta1 induces ET-1 gene expression and ET-1 peptide synthesis in BPAECs. The induction of preproET-1 mRNA level was due to de novo transcription, as well as mRNA stabilization, and new protein synthesis was not required for this induction.
