Article Synopsis
  • Labor induction (IOL) is a medical procedure to start labor artificially before it occurs naturally, and this study investigated factors affecting IOL success at a hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from January to April 2023.
  • The analysis included data from 531 women, revealing that half were under 30 years old, with post-dated pregnancy being the most common reason for induction; 62% achieved normal deliveries, suggesting IOL success.
  • The research found that higher parity (more pregnancies) and Prostin treatment increased IOL success, while lower gravidity (fewer pregnancies) and using Propess were linked to higher cesarean rates, emphasizing the need for careful assessment before IOL.

  • AI-generated imagery, especially for congenital heart diseases (CHD), has potential for enhancing medical education but faces significant accuracy issues.
  • The study used DALL·E 3 to create 110 images, including normal and CHD-heart representations, which were evaluated by 33 healthcare professionals for accuracy and educational value.
  • Findings showed that 80.8% of images were anatomically incorrect, 85.2% had incorrect text labels, and 78.1% were deemed unhelpful for medical training, highlighting the need for careful validation of AI-generated content.

Purpose/background: Our study explores and determines the perception toward insulin among patients with diabetes in the National Guard for Health Affairs (NGHA), Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), and aims to gain insight into the causes of refusal. Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are likely to need the use of insulin to keep blood glucose levels within normal range and delay the onset of diabetes-related problems. Individuals with diabetes may be hesitant to begin insulin therapy if they have a negative attitude toward it, which might add to the delay in beginning treatment.

There are dermatoses that arise within healed zosteriform sites, such as granulomas annulare, acneiform eruptions, psoriasis, lichen planus, and giant cell lichenoid dermatitis "GCLD." Nonetheless, graft-versus-host disease should be considered and ruled out, especially in patients post-bone marrow transplant. Herein, we report a case of GCLD manifesting within healed zosteriform sites.

A growing amount of evidence in the last few years has begun to unravel that non-coding RNAs have a myriad of functions in gene regulation. Intensive investigation on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) has led to exploring their broad role in neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) owing to their regulatory role in gene expression. RNA sequencing technologies and transcriptome analysis has unveiled significant dysregulation of ncRNAs attributed to their biogenesis, upregulation, downregulation, aberrant epigenetic regulation, and abnormal transcription.

The FAR1-related phenotypes caused by the gene encodes the peroxisomal protein fatty acyl-CoA reductase 1 (FAR1), which is required to reduce fatty acids to fatty alcohols used to form ether-linked alkyl bonds. Biallelic loss-of-function variants have been associated with severe psychomotor developmental delay, seizures, cataracts, growth retardation with microcephaly, and spasticity. However, heterozygous variants in have been recently linked to a rare genetic disorder called cataracts, spastic paraparesis, and speech delay (CSPSD).

Gastric ischemia is a condition of hypo-perfusion associated with hypotension, vasculitis, and thromboembolism. We report a case of a gastric outflow obstruction due to sizeable visceral artery thrombo-embolism leading to the ischemic conclusion, the frailty, multiple comorbidities deeming general anesthesia (GA) risky, and the patient's decision not to have an open surgery under GA. Invasive procedures in patients with similar profiles like our patient are usually not risk-free, this leads the intervention radiology team to believe a minimally invasive procedure while avoiding GA might be optimal.
