Article Synopsis
  • * The study involved 43 children aged 0 to 19 and aimed to analyze how melphalan levels (measured by area under the curve, AUC) affected transplant outcomes, finding higher AUC levels linked to lower risk of acute complications but no difference in survival rates.
  • * A predictive model for melphalan clearance was developed, showing a strong correlation between predicted clearance based on patient-specific factors (like creatinine excretion and clearance rates) and actual measured values, suggesting that dosing

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is an autosomal dominant disorder with cutaneous features and multiple tumors that involve different organs. Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are non-epithelial tumors associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 and arise from the gastrointestinal tract. Patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor present most commonly with anemia due to overt or occult bleeding and in rare cases diagnosis might be delayed so patients present with gastrointestinal tract obstruction.

Generally, brain angiogenesis is a tightly regulated process, which scarcely occurred in the absence of specific pathological conditions. Delivery of exogenous angiogenic factors enables the induction of desired angiogenesis by stimulating neovasculature formation. However, effective strategies of mimicking the angiogenesis process with exogenous factors have not yet been fully explored.

The ability of humans to use rules for organizing action demands a high level of executive control. Situational complexity mediates rule selection, from the adoption of a given rule to the selection of complex rules to achieve an appropriate response. Several rules have been proposed to be superordinate to human behavior in a cognitive hierarchy and mediated by different brain regions.

Introduction: Somatic symptoms often occur as a manifestation of depression and anxiety. The subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (sgACC) has been shown to be closely related to both depression and anxiety and plays an important role in somatic symptoms. However, little is known regarding whether the abnormal function of the sgACC contributes to the common somatic symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The genetic architecture of antidepressant response is poorly understood. Polygenic risk scores (PRS), exploration of placebo response and the use of sub-scales might provide insights. Here, we investigate the association between PRSs for relevant complex traits and response to vortioxetine treatment and placebo using clinical scales, including sub-scales and self-reported assessments.

The immune-inflammatory response during the acute phase of COVID-19, as assessed using peak body temperature (PBT) and peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), predicts the severity of chronic fatigue, depression and anxiety symptoms 3-4 months later. The present study was performed to examine the effects of SpO2 and PBT during acute infection on immune, oxidative and nitrosative stress (IO&NS) pathways and neuropsychiatric symptoms of Long COVID. This study assayed SpO2 and PBT during acute COVID-19, and C-reactive protein (CRP), malondialdehyde (MDA), protein carbonyls (PCs), myeloperoxidase (MPO), nitric oxide (NO), zinc, and glutathione peroxidase (Gpx) in 120 Long COVID individuals and 36 controls.

Background: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a chronic disorder characterized by excessive, pervasive, persistent worrying that is difficult to control. Jiuwei Zhenxin granules may be safer and more effective than non-benzodiazepine anti-anxiety drugs for treating GAD. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of Jiuwei Zhenxin granules alone or in combination with the benzodiazepine alprazolam.

Objective: This study intended to explore the nursing outcome-oriented intervention's effect on airway management in elderly long-term bedridden patients.

Methods: A total of 120 cases of elderly long-term bedridden patients admitted to our hospital from May 2018 to June 2020 were enrolled and randomly divided into the observation group ( = 60) and control group ( = 60). The control group received the routine nursing intervention, while the observation group received the nursing outcome-oriented intervention.

Background: A large number of clinical RCTs have verified that Jin's three-needle therapy (JTNT) has a great contribution to promoting the function of paralyzed limbs and relieving anxiety disorders for patients with post-stroke anxiety (PSA). However, there is still a lack of sham needle control, and its placebo effect cannot be ruled out. This study firstly verifies the real effectiveness of JTNT.

Background: Long coronavirus disease 2019 (LC) is a chronic sequel of acute COVID-19. The exact pathophysiology of the affective, chronic fatigue and physiosomatic symptoms (labelled as "physio-affective phenome") of LC has remained elusive.

Objective: The current study aims to delineate the effects of oxygen saturation (SpO2) and body temperature during the acute phase on the physio-affective phenome of LC.

Effectiveness and Safety of Treating Negative Emotions after PCI from the Perspective of Qi and Blood: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Evid Based Complement Alternat Med

September 2022

Department of Geriatrics, Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Jiangsu Province Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China.

Background: Many patients undergoing PCI have been reported to suffer from psychological distress and negative emotions. Several lines of evidence have indicated that PCI patients with negative emotions are particularly vulnerable to myocardial reperfusion injury when they face psychological challenges. As proven by clinical trials and research, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has certain advantages in alleviating psychological symptoms in PCI patients.

Gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) and hyaluronic acid methacrylate (HAMA) are frequently used biomaterials for 3D bioprinting, with individual well-established material characteristics. To identify an ideal combination of GelMA and HAMA for chondrogenesis, a novel, primary human chondrocyte COL2A1-Gaussia luciferase reporter system (HuCol2gLuc) was developed. With this non-destructive, high-throughput temporal assay, Gaussia luciferase is secreted from the cells and used as a proxy for measuring type II collagen production.

Introduction: The aims of our study are: i) to explore whether plasma levels of BDNF/GDNF are valuable in the diagnosis of first-episode depression; ii) to discuss whether there is an association between peripheral plasma levels of BDNF/GDNF and patients' depression severity and cognitive dysfunction; iii) to explore the association between plasma levels of BDNF/GDNF and the effectiveness of antidepressant treatment.

Methods: Ninety patients with first-episode unmedicated MDD and healthy controls were recruited. MDD patients were treated with antidepressant medication for 8 weeks.
