Depressive and Anxiety Symptom Assessment in Adults with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrinopathic disorder commonly affecting women in the reproductive age. These women have a possibility of developing depression and anxiety due to biochemical changes, concerns regarding physical appearance, and social pressure from infertility. Thus, the connection between PCOS, anxiety, and depression has a possible impact on patients' quality of life.

A Novel Combination Therapy Using Rosuvastatin and Combats Dextran Sodium Sulfate-Induced Colitis in High-Fat Diet-Fed Rats by Targeting the TXNIP/NLRP3 Interaction and Influencing Gut Microbiome Composition.

Inflammasome targeting and controlling dysbiosis are promising therapeutic approaches to control ulcerative colitis. This report is the first to investigate the mechanisms underlying the coloprotective effects of rosuvastatin and and their combined therapy on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed rats. Our results demonstrate the aggravation of intestinal inflammation as a consequence of an HFD following DSS administration.

A randomized trial of psychological intervention on perioperative anxiety and depression of patients with severe blepharoptosis undergoing autologous fascia lata frontal muscle suspension.

Background: Perioperative negative emotion of surgical patients has a greater impact on surgical efficacy and prognosis. The study aimed to analyze the effect of psychological intervention on perioperative anxiety and depression of patients with severe blepharoptosis undergoing autologous fascia lata frontal muscle suspension, and provide a reference for improving and optimizing patient care plans.

Methods: Ninety-two patients with severe blepharoptosis who underwent autologous fascia lata frontal muscle suspension in our hospital from February 2018 to January 2020 were selected as the research subjects.

In schizophrenia, immune-inflammatory pathways are strongly associated with depressive and anxiety symptoms, which are part of a latent trait which comprises neurocognitive impairments and schizophrenia symptoms.

Background: The aim is to examine whether biomarkers of the immune-inflammatory response (IRS) and endogenous opioid (EOS) systems are associated with affective symptoms in schizophrenia.

Methods: We recruited 115 schizophrenia patients and 43 healthy controls and assessed the Hamilton Depression (HDRS) and Anxiety (HAM-A) rating Scale scores as well as serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, eotaxin (CCL11), high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), Dickkopf-related protein 1 (DKK1), and mu (MOR) and kappa (KOR) opioid receptors.

Results: The HDRS and HAM-A scores are significantly and positively correlated with a) psychosis, hostility, excitation, mannerism, negative symptoms, psychomotor retardation, and formal thought disorders; and b) lowered scores on semantic and episodic memory, executive functions, and attention tests as measured with the Brief Assessment of Cognition in Psychiatry.

Evolution and insights into the structure and function of the DedA superfamily containing TMEM41B and VMP1.

TMEM41B and VMP1 are endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localizing multi-spanning membrane proteins required for ER-related cellular processes such as autophagosome formation, lipid droplet homeostasis and lipoprotein secretion in eukaryotes. Both proteins have a VTT domain, which is similar to the DedA domain found in bacterial DedA family proteins. However, the molecular function and structure of the DedA and VTT domains (collectively referred to as DedA domains) and the evolutionary relationships among the DedA domain-containing proteins are largely unknown.

Prevalence and Clinical Features of FOG in Chinese PD Patients, a Multicenter and Cross-Sectional Clinical Study.

Freezing of gait (FOG) is generally considered as an independent symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD) with a complex pathophysiology. There is a wide range of associated clinical features of FOG reported from different studies without consistent conclusion. Thus, a multicenter, cross-sectional study was designed to investigate the prevalence and clinical features of FOG together with its unique contribution quality of life in Chinese PD patients.

Three-dimensional (3D) hydrogel serves as a platform to identify potential markers of chondrocyte dedifferentiation by combining RNA sequencing.

Dedifferentiation of chondrocyte greatly restricts its function and application, however, it is poorly understood except a small number of canonical markers. The non-cell-adhesive property endows polysaccharide hydrogel with the ability to maintain chondrocyte phenotype, which can serve as a platform to identify new molecular markers and therapeutic targets of chondrocyte dedifferentiation. In this study, the high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was first performed on articular chondrocytes at primary (P0) and passage 1 (P1) stages to explore the global alteration of gene expression along with chondrocyte dedifferentiation.

Individualized Homeopathic Medicines in the Treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder: A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Pilot Trial.

Introduction: Evidence favoring homeopathy in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) remains scarce. The objective of this pilot trial was to test feasibility of a definitive trial in future. We also experimented whether individualized homeopathic medicines (IH) plus psychological counseling (PC) can produce significantly different effects beyond placebo plus PC in the treatment of GAD.

Supportive care in the acute phase of Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis: an international, multidisciplinary Delphi-based consensus.

Background: Supportive care is the cornerstone of management of adult and paediatric Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). However, consensus on the modalities of supportive care is lacking.

Objectives: Our aim in this international multicentric Delphi exercise was to establish a multidisciplinary expert consensus to standardize recommendations regarding supportive care in the acute phase of SJS/TEN.

EEG power spectral analysis reveals tandospirone improves anxiety symptoms in patients with Alzheimer's disease: a prospective cohort study.

Background: To study the efficacy of tandospirone citrate in treating Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with anxiety.

Methods: Thirty mild-to-moderate AD patients with anxiety symptoms were randomly divided into a monotherapy group (donepezil) and a combination therapy group (donepezil and tandospirone). The treatment lasted for 12 weeks.

Cone beam computed tomography findings in the temporomandibular joints of chronic qat chewers: Radiographic bone density and trabecular microstructural analyses.

Objectives: This cross-sectional comparative study investigated the effects of qat chewing habit on the radiographic bone density (RBD) and trabecular microstructure of temporomandibular joint condyles using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Study Design: In total, 85 systemically healthy Yemeni males were included and divided into qat chewers (QCs; n = 41); and non-qat chewers (NQCs; n = 44). The participants responded to a structured questionnaire and underwent standardized clinical examination and CBCT scanning of the temporomandibular joint.

The impact of a cardiopulmonary resuscitation video on reducing surrogates' anxiety: A pilot randomized controlled trial.

Purpose: To test the primary hypothesis that a CPR video will reduce ICU patients' surrogates' anxiety when deciding code status, as measured by the Hamilton Anxiety Rating (HAM-A) Scale, as compared to the no video group.

Materials And Methods: This is a prospective randomized control trial. Twenty-seven ICU patients' surrogates were enrolled in the study after receiving an ICU team-led code status discussion.

Assessment of some heavy metals in crude oil workers from Kurdistan Region, northern Iraq.

Heavy metal pollution in the environment has gained interest in the past few decades, as it has been found to accumulate in soil and water, as well as in the human body. Heavy metals present a serious health risk to humans when the concentration level and exposure time are increased. Although they have been extensively studied in the environment and food, little is known regarding their occurrence in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq.

Workplace violence toward resident doctors in public hospitals of Syria: prevalence, psychological impact, and prevention strategies: a cross-sectional study.

Introduction: Workplace violence (WPV) against healthcare workers is a common and daily problem in hospitals worldwide. Studies in different countries indicated that exposure to WPV potentially impacts the psychological status of healthcare workers. However, there is a paucity of studies approaching this issue in the Syrian healthcare system.

Clinical traits of patients with major depressive disorder with comorbid borderline personality disorder based on propensity score matching.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) with comorbid borderline personality disorder (BPD) makes the clinical symptoms of patients more complex and more difficult to treat, so more attention should be paid to the recognition of their clinical features. This study investigated the differences between patients with MDD with and without BPD in clinical traits.

Methods: Propensity score matching was used to analyze the retrospective patients' data from August 2012 to September 2019.

Acupuncture therapy for treating postherpetic neuralgia: A protocol for an overview of systematic reviews and meta-analysis.

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is the most common complication and sequela of herpes zoster (HZ) that greatly affects the life and emotional experience of patients. Acupuncture therapy has been confirmed as an effective and safe treatment for PHN. Several systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analysis (MAs) have reported the evidence of acupuncture therapy for treating PHN.

Research on Cognitive Function in Anxious Depression Patients in China.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate cognitive function in patients with anxious depression.

Methods: This was a part of the "Objective Diagnostic Indicators and Individualized Drug Intervention of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)" study. All participants, including patients with MDD and healthy controls (HCs), completed the 17-item Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA).

Interleukin-34 Limits the Therapeutic Effects of Immune Checkpoint Blockade.

Interleukin-34 (IL-34) is an alternative ligand to colony-stimulating factor-1 (CSF-1) for the CSF-1 receptor that acts as a key regulator of monocyte/macrophage lineage. In this study, we show that tumor-derived IL-34 mediates resistance to immune checkpoint blockade regardless of CSF-1 existence in various murine cancer models. Consistent with its immunosuppressive characteristics, the expression of IL-34 in tumors correlates with decreased frequencies of cellular (such as CD8 and CD4 T cells and M1-biased macrophages) and molecular (including various cytokines and chemokines) effectors at the tumor microenvironment.

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are persistent mutagenic and carcinogenic compounds produced by many common plant species. Health authorities recommend minimising human exposure via food and medicinal products to ensure consumer health and safety. However, there is little awareness that PAs can contaminate water resources.
