Objective: The study objective was to determine the effect of a rapid cycle deliberate practice (RCDP) program on simulated and actual airway skills by pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) fellows.
Methods: We designed and implemented a 12-month RCDP airway skills curriculum for PEM fellows at an academic pediatric institution. The curriculum was designed using airway training literature, RCDP principals, and internal quality assurance airway video review program.
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Digital health technologies are important public health interventions for addressing the burden of cardiovascular disease. In this article, we discuss the importance of translating digital innovations in research-funded projects to low-resource settings globally to advance global cardiovascular health equity.

With new data about different aspects of schizophrenia being continually generated, it becomes necessary to periodically revisit exactly what we know. Along with a need to review what we currently know about schizophrenia, there is an equal imperative to evaluate the construct itself. With these objectives, we undertook an iterative, multi-phase process involving fifty international experts in the field, with each step building on learnings from the prior one.

Elastin is a long-lived fibrous protein that is abundant in the extracellular matrix of the lung. Elastic fibers provide the lung the characteristic elasticity during inhalation with recoil during exhalation thereby ensuring efficient gas exchange. Excessive deposition of elastin and other extracellular matrix proteins reduces lung compliance by impairing ventilation and compromising gas exchange.

This study's objective was to examine racial and geographic disparities in emergency medical services (EMS) medication administration to pediatric patients with asthma.
Methods: This is a substudy of the Early Administration of Steroids in the Ambulance Setting: An Observational Design Trial, which includes data from pediatric asthma patients ages 2-18 years.

Background Digoxin prescription in patients with single-ventricle physiology after stage 1 palliation is associated with reduced interstage death. Prior literature has primarily included patients having undergone the Norwood procedure. We sought to determine if digoxin prescription at discharge in infants following hybrid stage 1 palliation was associated with improved transplant-free interstage survival.

Introduction: The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Foundation sponsored the design, pilot testing, and implementation of the CF Learning Network (CFLN) to explore how the Foundation's Care Center Network (CCN) could become a learning health system. Six years after the design, the Foundation commissioned a formative mixed methods evaluation of the CFLN to assess: CFLN participants' understanding of program goals, attributes, and perceptions of current and future impact.
Methods: We performed semi-structured interviews with CFLN participants to identify perceived goals, attributes, and impact of the network.
In this paper, we take the lessons learned from designing a survey and collecting validity evidence and prepare to administer the survey for research. We focus specifically on how researchers can reach individuals in the target population, methods of contact and engagement, evidence-informed factors that enhance participation, and recommendations for follow-up with nonrespondents. We also discuss the challenges of survey administration and provide guidance for navigating low response rates.

Despite the increased number of evidence-based guidelines for sickle cell disease (SCD), dissemination of evidence-based guidelines in lay language for individuals or families with SCD has not been evaluated. We conducted a feasibility randomized controlled trial to determine the acceptability of a mobile health (mHealth) app with patient-facing guidelines to improve the knowledge of individuals with SCD about SCD-specific knowledge and reduce hospitalizations. Primary outcome measures include recruitment, retention, and adherence rates.

However, they are not without risk; this case report aims to show the importance of follow-up and adherence to guidelines, and methods to diagnose a life-threatening complication.

In certain scenarios, patients may require aggressive treprostinil titration. Several studies have demonstrated that higher doses of treprostinil lead to greater clinical benefit.

We evaluated the incidence, hemodynamic factors, and outcomes associated with SCI in PPH. This retrospective cohort study included 22 PPH patients on PPT from 2005 to 2020.

We evaluated the association between hyperglycemia, ischemic lesions, and functional outcomes after ICH. Methods and Results This was a retrospective observational analysis of 1167 patients who received magnetic resonance imaging in the ERICH (Ethnic and Racial Variations in Intracerebral Hemorrhage) study.

To better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the care of patients with pulmonary hypertension, we conducted a retrospective cohort study evaluating health insurance status, healthcare access, disease severity, and patient reported outcomes in this population. Using the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Registry (PHAR), we defined and extracted a longitudinal cohort of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients from the PHAR's inception in 2015 until March 2022. We used generalized estimating equations to model the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patient outcomes, adjusting for demographic confounders.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. RASA3 is a GTPase activating protein integral to angiogenesis and endothelial barrier function. In this study, we explore the association of RASA3 genetic variation with PH risk in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD)-associated PH and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

Methods: Bibliometric data of "otorhinolaryngology" journals were collected from the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) database. For the years 2009-2020, we collected normalized Eigenfactor score, 5-year IF, immediacy index, fraction of IF from journal-self citation, proportion and magnitude of published citable articles, and total citation counts.

The Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys are endemic to histoplasmosis. It is usually self-limiting in immunocompetent people, but it can cause morbidity and mortality if not detected early in people with an underlying autoimmune disease. Disseminated Histoplasmosis induced hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) mimicking the flare of an underlying autoimmune disease, is uncommon in the published literature.
