With the development of assisted reproductive technique (ART), children born following ART now form a sizeable subgroup of the population, so assessment for the safety of ART becomes more urgent than ever before. The health problems about living quality of children conceived by ART mainly focus on perinatal outcome and short-term follow-up study, including multiple pregnancies, low birth weight and prematurity in singleton births, congenital malformations, imprinting disorders, neurodevelopmental outcome, neonatal outcomes, physical and mental health, as well as cancer risks. In this review, we will discuss the health problems of these children, to provide data for further study.

Perhaps the most difficult practical decision for neurosurgeons these days is whether to secure aneurysms during the intermediate period (4-10 days) after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). We retrospectively reviewed a series of 115 patients with a Hunt-Hess grade I-III upon admission who were admitted 4-10 days after initial supratentorial aneurysmal SAH. Patients who underwent active treatment in the intermediate period were assigned to the intermediate group (n = 49) while those who accepted delayed obliteration of a ruptured aneurysm (11-30 days) were assigned to the late group (n = 66).

Objective: Allicin is believed to be the main component responsible for the biological activity of garlic. The regulation of cell apoptosis may have therapeutic potential for trauma/hemorrhagic shock, and previous studies have demonstrated that allicin exerts protective effects against tissue ischemia-reperfusion injury. Therefore, this study examined the effects of allicin on apoptosis-related organ damage, induced by trauma/hemorrhagic shock.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and vitamin C on the progression of experimental autoimmune myocarditis(EAM).
Methods: Fifty-two Balb/c mice were randomized into six groups: The blank group received no treatment, the remaining 5 groups were immunized with 100mug emulsified porcine myosin at d 1 and d 7. Different agents were injected from d 1, SVitC group:150 mg/kg*d(-1)vitamin C; LVitC group: 300 mg/kg*d(-1)vitamin C; IVIG group: 1 g/kg*d(-1)IVIG; IVIG+VitC group: 1 g/kg*d(-1)IVIG and 150 mg/kg*d(-1)vitamin C; The control group same volume of normal saline.

Objective: To introduce individualized 3-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction of maxillary defect by prefabricated titanium mesh combined with pedicled buccal fat pad flap (PBFPF) and bone autograft.
Methods: Since May, 2001, 16 patients with maxillary defect resulted from tumor or trauma were treated. The 3-D models were created through 3-D CT and rapid prototype technique.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the chest CT findings of immunocompetent patients with primary pulmonary cryptococcosis and to evaluate the utility of CT-guided percutaneous biopsy in the diagnosis.
Methods: Chest CT scans of 12 immunocompetent patients with biopsy-proven primary pulmonary cryptococcosis were analyzed for the number of lesions, morphologic characteristics, distribution of parenchymal abnormalities, and the presence of lymphadenopathy and pleural effusion. Lung specimens were obtained by CT guided percutaneous biopsy (n = 9) and/or surgical resection (n = 7).

Objective: To observe regulation of nitric oxide on c-fos expression in osteoblastic cells in response to changes in wall-shear stress in vitro.
Methods: Isolated and purified osteoblastic cells from the calvaria of newborn SD rats were cultured and passaged. The third generation cells, pre-treated with 10% FBS DMEM, 0.

Objective: To establish a methotrexate (MTX)-resistant choriocarcinoma cell line and to determine its biologic characteristics.
Methods: MTX-resistant cell line (JAR/MTX) was derived from human choriocarcinoma cell line JAR by exposed to intermittently and progressively increasing concentration of MTX. Drug sensitivity was detected by MTT; P-gp GST-Pi and PCNA expressions were detected by immunohistochemistry.
Objective: To explore the possible effect of transforming growth factor-beta(1) (TGF -beta(1)) on the development of renal fibrosis in human mesengial proliferative glomerulonephritis (MsPGN).
Methods: Immunohistochemistry method, sirius red staining polarization microscopy and the computer imaging analysis system were used to detect the expression of TGF-beta(1), the distribution of collagen I, collagen III and collagen IV.
Result: In MsPGN with renal fibrosis, collagen IV was increased markedly, and collagen I and collagen III appeared in the expanded mesengial matrix abnormally.

Objective: To observe the cytotoxic effect of thermo-chemotherapy with cisplatin on osteosarcoma OS-732 cell line and to explore its mechanism.
Methods: The osteosarcoma OS-732 cell line was treated with different temperature, cisplatin alone and 43 degrees C +cisplatin for 1 h, respectively and the in vitro cytotoxic effect was observed with MTT assay. The cell cycle and the apoptotic rate were analyzed with flow cytometry (FCM); the cellular apoptosis was observed also with electron microscope.
