Background: India, with the largest population and second-highest type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) prevalence, presents a unique genetic landscape. This study explores the genetic profiling of T2DM, aiming to bridge gaps in existing research and provide insights for further explorations.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of literature published up to September 2024 using databases like PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar to identify SNPs associated with T2DM in case-control studies within the Indian population.

Autophagy, a crucial process in cancer, is closely intertwined with both tumor progression and drug resistance development. However, existing methods used to assess autophagy activity often pose invasiveness and time-related constraints, limiting their applicability in preclinical drug investigations. In this study, we developed a non-invasive autophagy detection system (NIADS-autophagy, also called G-cleave LC3B biosensor) by integrating a split-luciferase-based biosensor with an LC3B cleavage sequence, which swiftly identified classic autophagic triggers, such as Earle's Balanced Salt Solution and serum deprivation, through protease-mediated degradation pathways.

Background: Gallstone formation is a common digestive ailment, with unclear mechanisms underlying its development. Dysfunction of the gallbladder smooth muscle (GSM) may play a crucial role, particularly with a high-fat diet (HFD). This study aimed to investigate the effects of an HFD on GSM and assess how it alters contractility through changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), characterized by its lack of traditional hormone receptors and HER2, presents a significant challenge in oncology due to its poor response to conventional therapies. Autophagy is an important process for maintaining cellular homeostasis, and there are currently autophagy biomarkers that play an effective role in the clinical treatment of tumors. In contrast to targeting protein activity, intervention with protein-protein interaction (PPI) can avoid unrelated crosstalk and regulate the autophagy process with minimal interference pathways.

Significance: The eye can be used as a potential monitoring window for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of neurological diseases. Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) are common causes of cognitive impairment and may share many similarities in ocular signs. Multimodal ophthalmic imaging is a technology to quantify pupillary light reaction, retinal reflectance spectrum, and hemodynamics.

Often asymptomatic, it may lead to complications such as abnormal bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, secondary infertility, or uterine rupture during subsequent pregnancies. Objective This study aimed to assess the prevalence, clinical features, and associated risk factors of uterine isthmocele among women with previous cesarean scars over four years (2019-2023) at Rabia Balkhi Hospital, Afghanistan.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) within the intensive care unit (ICU) is common but evidence is limited on longer-term renal outcomes. We aimed to model the trend of kidney function in ICU survivors using estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), comparing those with and without AKI, and investigate potential risk factors associated with eGFR decline.
Methods: This observational cohort study included all patients aged 16 or older admitted to two general adult ICUs in Scotland between 1st July 2015 and 30th June 2018 who survived to 30 days following hospital discharge.

Bacterial infection and inadequate osseointegration represent significant challenges in the application of titanium (Ti)-based bone implants. Surface modification presents a promising strategy to address these obstacles. Taking advantage of silver ions, black phosphorus nanosheets (BPNs) and polydopamine (PDA), this study developed a versatile platform on the surface of Ti-12Mo-10Zr (TMZ) alloy through a multiple surface modification process, including the anodic oxidation treatment of TMZ alloy, the preparation and addition of silver-loaded BPNs (BPNs/Ag), and the coating with PDA.

This study aims to establish a genetic risk assessment model based on a score of short tandem repeats (STRs) of polygenic inheritance. A total of 396 children and their biological parents were collected for STR genotyping. The numbers of tandem repeats of two alleles in one STR locus were assumed to be a quantitative genetic strength for disease incidence.

Background: Severe or recurring major depression is associated with increased adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), heightened atherogenicity, and immune-linked neurotoxicity (INT). Nevertheless, the interconnections among these variables in outpatient major depression (OMDD) have yet to be determined. We aim to determine the correlations among INT, atherogenicity, and ACEs in OMDD patients compared to normal controls.

The extensive mining of bastnasite (CeFCO) has caused pollution of lanthanum (La), cerium (Ce), and fuorine (F) in the surrounding farmland soil, severely threatening the safety of the soil ecosystem. However, the interaction effects of various chemical fractions of La, Ce, and F on the composition of microbial communities are unclear. In our study, high-throughput sequencing was performed based on the pot experiments of four types of combined pollution soils, i.

Successful transmission of Plasmodium falciparum from one person to another relies on the complete intraerythrocytic development of non-pathogenic sexual gametocytes infectious for anopheline mosquitoes. Understanding the genetic factors that regulate gametocyte development is vital for identifying transmission-blocking targets in the malaria parasite life cycle. Toward this end, we conducted a forward genetic study to characterize the development of gametocytes from sexual commitment to mature stage V.

Reversible transformation of bovine leukocytes by the intracellular parasites Theileria annulata and Theileria parva is central to pathogenesis of the diseases they cause, tropical theileriosis and East Coast Fever, respectively. Parasite-dependent constitutive activation of major host transcription factors such as AP-1 (Activating Protein 1) and NF-κB (Nuclear Factor-Kappa B) sustains the transformed state. Although parasite interaction with host cell signaling pathways upstream of AP-1 have been studied, the precise contribution of Theileria encoded factors capable of modulating AP-1 transcriptional activity, and other infection-altered signaling pathways is not fully understood.
