Camellia oleifera shells (COS) are commonly discarded as an agricultural by-product. Effective utilization of COS can not only reduce environmental pollution but also enhance the value of the tea-oil industry. The unique composition of COS, with high hemicellulose and low cellulose content, makes it suitable for the production of film materials.

Electronic address:

Schizophrenia is a polygenic complex disease with a heritability as high as 80 %, yet the mechanism of polygenic interaction in its pathogenesis remains unclear. Studying the interaction and regulation of schizophrenia susceptibility genes is crucial for unraveling the pathogenesis of schizophrenia and developing antipsychotic drugs. Therefore, we developed a bioinformatics method named GRACI (Gene Regulation Analysis based on Causal Inference) based on the principles of information theory, a causal inference model, and high order chromatin 3D conformation.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

July 2024

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Chip and Integration Technology, School of Semiconductor Science and Technology, Faculty of Engineering, South China Normal University, Foshan 528225, P. R. China.

A two-dimensional (2D) broken-gap (type-III) p-n heterojunction has a unique charge transport mechanism because of nonoverlapping energy bands. In light of this, type-III band alignment can be used in tunneling field-effect transistors (TFETs) and Esaki diodes with tunable operation and low consumption by highlighting the advantages of tunneling mechanisms. In recent years, 2D tunneling photodiodes have gradually attracted attention for novel optoelectronic performance with a combination of strong light-matter interaction and tunable band alignment.

School of Materials Science and Engineering, South China University of Technology, 381 Wushan Rd., Guangzhou 510641, Guangdong, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Direct observation of fluorescence-stained microbes on surface imprinted polymers (SIPs) is difficult due to speed and accuracy limits, specifically in detecting spores of the harmful Fusarium sp. race 4 affecting banana plants.
  • A new SIP detection method utilizing a 4-PDMS film was developed, which allows for quick and semiquantitative identification of the target spores through naked-eye visualization, correlated with spore concentration.
  • The results indicated that this method is effective for soil testing, offering reliable detection of Fusarium spores and potential applications in identifying other fungal diseases impacting crops.

Cell Wall Modification Based on Combination Reagents to Improve Dimensional Stability of Wood with High Efficiency.

J Agric Food Chem

July 2024

Key Laboratory for Biobased Materials and Energy of Ministry of Education, College of Materials and Energy, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China.

Although γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS) was proved to be an effective reagent for improving the dimensional stability of wood, a bottleneck in ASE value (around 50%) existed. The reason was that MPS with low polarity opened few hydrogen bonds in the amorphous region of cellulose, while these hydrogen bonds could be reopened by water. Therefore, citric acid (CA) is chosen to cooperate with MPS to further enhance the dimensional stability of wood.

Near-field direct-writing electrospinning technology can be used to produce ordered micro/nanofiber membrane dressings. The application of this technology can simply realize the control of dressing porosity, compound different functional substances, and adjust their distribution, thus improving the defects of common dressings such as insufficient breathability, poor moisture retention performance, and single function. Herein, a novel multifunctional wound dressing was prepared to utilize near-field direct-writing electrospinning technology, in which calf skin collagen type I (CSC-I) and polycaprolactone (PCL) were used as the composite matrix, Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as the solvent, and erythromycin (ERY) as an anti-infective drug component.

Eliminating Hole Extraction Barrier in 1D/3D Perovskite Heterojunction for Efficient and Stable Carbon-Based CsPbI Solar Cells with a Record Efficiency.

Adv Mater

August 2024

Key Laboratory for Biobased Materials and Energy of Ministry of Education, College of Materials and Energy, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, 510642, China.

Carbon-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) have the advantages of low-cost and high-stability, but their photovoltaic performance is limited by severe defect-induced recombination and low hole extraction efficiency. 1D perovskite is proven to effectively passivate the defects on the perovskite surface, therefore reducing non-radiative recombination loss. However, the unsuitable energy level of most 1D perovskite renders an undesired downward band bending for 3D perovskite, resulting in a high hole extraction barrier and reduced hole extraction efficiency.

Antibiotic abuse is increasing the present rate of drug-resistant bacterial wound infections, producing a significant healthcare burden globally. Herein, we prepared a pH-responsive CMCS/PVP/TA (CPT) multifunctional hydrogel dressing by embedding the natural plant extract TA as a nonantibiotic and cross-linking agent in carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) to prompt wound healing. The CPT hydrogel demonstrated excellent self-healing, self-adaptive, and adhesion properties to match different wound requirements.

Key Laboratory for Biobased Materials and Energy of Ministry of Education, College of Materials and Energy, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, P. R. China.

Oily wastewater has caused serious threats to the environment; thus, high-performance absorbing materials for effective oil-water separation technology have attracted increasing attention. Herein, we develop a magnetic, hydrophobic, and lipophilic hyperporous elastic material (HEM) templated by high internal phase emulsions (HIPE), in which free-radical polymerization of butyl acrylate (BA) and divinylbenzene (DVB) is employed in the presence of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), lecithin surfactant, and modified FeO nanoparticles. The adoption of the emulsion template with nanoparticles as both stabilizers and cross-linkers endows the HEM with biomimetic hierarchical open-cell micropores and elastic cross-linked networks, generating an oil absorbent with outstanding mechanical stability.
