Two-dimensional nano-MoS holds remarkable potential for widespread use in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) applications owing to its high catalytic activity, abundant availability, and low cost. However, its electrocatalytic performance is significantly lower than that of Pt-based catalysts necessitating strategies to improve its catalytic activity. We developed an effective strategy for enhancing the HER performance of MoS based on the synergistic effect of oxygen vacancies (O), heterostructures, and interfacial wettability.

Chemo-biocatalytic cascades have emerged as a promising approach in the realm of advanced synthesis. However, reconciling the incompatible reaction conditions among distinct catalytic species presents a significant challenge. Herein, we introduce an innovative solution using an emulsion system stabilized by Janus silica nanoparticles, which serve as a bridge for both chemo-catalysts and biocatalysts at the interface.

The development of room-temperature (RT) sodium-sulfur (Na-S) batteries is severely hindered due to the slow kinetics of the S cathode and the instability of the Na-metal anode. To overcome this, we introduced a dual-functional electrolyte cosolvent, trifluoromethanesulfonamide (TFMSA). Short-chain NaS (1 ≤ ≤ 2) can be effectively dissolved due to the strong H-S bond interaction between TFMSA and sulfides, which changes the S conversion process, thereby effectively enhancing the conversion kinetics of the cathode.

Phototheranostics is growing into a sparking frontier in disease treatment. Developing single molecular species synchronously featured by powerful absorption capacity, superior second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescence and prominent photothermal conversion ability is highly desirable for phototheranostics, yet remains formidably challenging. In this work, we propose a molecular design philosophy that the integration of noncovalent conformational locks (NoCLs) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) in a single formulation is able to boost multiple photophysical properties for efficient phototheranostics.

Wastewater purification has evolved into a global problem in the face of increasing scarcity of freshwater resources. Photocatalysis technology possesses prominent advantages in treating pollutants in water because of its low cost and mild reaction conditions, which provides an effective way to treat multiple pollutants and reduce membrane fouling. Herein, we combine photocatalysis technology with filtration technology via in situ reduction Bi with BiSiO strategy incorporating a carbonized wood filter to synthesize carbon/BiSiO@Bi bi-functional composite.

Exploring the relationship between semiconductor structure and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity was essential for the development of ultrasensitive SERS substrates. Herein, we report an ytterbium atomic doping strategy to render TiO (Yb-TiO) highly SERS sensitive superior to pure TiO, with a detection limit as low as 1 × 10 M for 4-mercaptobenzoic acid. First-principles density functional theory calculations reveal that ytterbium doping leads to high electrostatic properties, allowing for significant charge transfer from molecules to semiconductors.

Solution blowing process was used to prepare cellulose nonwovens, by using N-methyl morpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) as solvent, and salicylic acid (SA) microcapsules as antibacterial additives. The structure and properties of cellulose nonwovens modified with different SA microcapsules contents were compared and evaluated. The results showed that more uniform and denser web structure was formed with the increase of SA microcapsules content, the average fiber diameter of cellulose nonwoven increased from 1.

A functionalized ethylene-vinyl-alcohol (EVOH) nanofibrous membrane (NFM) was fabricated via co-electrospinning HSiWO (SiW) and EVOH first, and then grafting citric acid (CCA) on the electrospun SiW@EVOH NFM. Characterization with FT-IR, EDX, and XPS confirmed that CCA was introduced to the surface of SiW@EVOH NFM and the Keggin structure of SiW was maintained well in the composite fibers. Due to a number of carboxyl groups introduced by CCA, the as-prepared SiW@EVOH-CCA NFM can form a high number of hydrogen bonds with CR, and thus can be used to selectively absorb congo red (CR) in aqueous solutions.

A triple signal amplification strategy was integrated with a built-in double electrode and external energy storage device to fabricate a novel self-powered biosensor for ultrasensitive detection of miRNA-21. Specifically, DNA tetrahedra and haripin2-glucose oxidase are modified on the surface of the biocathode and bioanode by catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) to achieve dual signal amplification. Moreover, triple signal amplification is realized by including an external capacitor.

An ultrasensitive self-powered biosensor is constructed for miRNA-21 detection based on Au nanoparticles @ Pd nanorings (Au NPs@Pd NRs) and catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA). The Au NPs@Pd NRs possess excellent electrical conductivity to improve the electron transfer rate and show good elimination of byproduct HO to assist glucose oxidase (GOD) to catalyze glucose; CHA is used as an amplification strategy to effectively enhance the sensitivity of the biosensor. To further amplify the output signal, a capacitor is integrated into the self-powered biosensor.

Lightweight, flexible, efficient and easy-to-manufacture electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials are in urgent demand in the communications industry, artificial intelligence and wearable electronics. Based on the large size difference between one-dimensional carboxymethyl cellulose nanofibers (CMC) and large-diameter silver nanowires (AgNWs), layered AgNWs/CMC nanocomposite films with large effective thickness, and high conductivity were first prepared by a simple one-step vacuum filtration self-assembly technique. The unique layered structure of the AgNWs/CMC nanocomposite film significantly enhances the conductive pathways within the film, endowing it excellent EMI shielding performance.

The development of photoresponsive shape memory materials based on the photothermal conversion properties of lignin and the low activation energy of the dynamic covalent borate bond is of great importance. In this paper, a kind of lignin-based vitrimer polymer (LBP) containing dynamic boronic ester bonds was prepared by a "sulfhydryl-epoxy" click reaction and etherification reaction. The results show that the rigid segment EP-EL (lignin-based epoxy resin) and BDB (2,2'-(1,4-phenylene)-bis-[4-mercapto-1,3,2-dioxaneborane]) with benzene ring structure can impart tensile strength (20.

Power dissipation, a fundamental limitation for realizing high-performance electronic devices, may be effectively reduced by an external supply voltage. However, a small supply voltage simultaneously brings another serious challenge, that is, a remarkable device inability in transistors. To deal with this issue, we propose a new transistor design based on the metal-semiconductor phase transition in a AsGeC monolayer, which provides a switching mechanism of band-to-band tunneling at on- and off-states by gate-voltage modulation.

To investigate the influence of Zn-alloying on the microstructure and tensile mechanical properties of Mg-6Bi alloy after hot extrusion, a new ternary Mg-6Bi-3Zn alloy was prepared by extrusion at 300 °C. The microstructures, texture, dynamic precipitates and tensile mechanical behaviors of the extruded alloy were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and a material testing machine at room temperature. After extrusion, the Mg-6Bi-3Zn alloy possesses a bimodal microstructure with elongated large unrecrystallized (unDRXed) grains and fine dynamic recrystallized (DRXed) grains.

Buprofezin (BUP) is an insect growth regulator widely used in agriculture to control hemipteran pests, particularly the melon aphid, Aphis gossypii, due to its efficiency and low toxicity. Although approved by the Chinese government, its maximum residue limit (MRL) in food is strictly regulated, and conventional techniques for detecting BUP have several limitations. Our study reports successful BUP detection using a supramolecular fluorescent probe DP@ALB, constructed with chalcone-based fluorescent dye DP and albumin as the host.
