Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, No. 3, Qingchun Road East, Hangzhou, 310016, P.R. China.

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by the progressive degeneration of articular cartilage, leading to pain, stiffness, and loss of joint function. The pathogenesis of OA involves multiple factors, including increased intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), enhanced chondrocyte apoptosis, and disturbances in cartilage matrix metabolism. These processes contribute to the breakdown of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and the loss of cartilage integrity, ultimately resulting in joint damage and dysfunction.

Catalytic nanoparticle@metal-organic framework (MOF) composites have attracted significant interest in point-of-care testing (POCT) owing to their prominent catalytic activity. However, the trade-off between high loading efficiency and high catalytic activity remains challenging because high concentrations of nanoparticles tend to cause the misjoining and collapse of the MOFs. Herein, a facile strategy is reported to encapsulate high concentrations of platinum (Pt) nanoparticles into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) using polydopamine (PDA) as a support for Pt@ZIF-8 and as a flexible scaffold for further immobilization of Pt nanoparticles.

The Center for Clinical Molecular Medical Detection, The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, 400016, China.

Background: PD-1/PD-L1 blockade has become a powerful method to treat malignant tumors. However, a large proportion of patients still do not benefit from this treatment, due to low tumor immunogenicity and low tumor penetration of the agents. Recently, neutrophil elastase has been shown to induce robust tumor immunogenicity, while the insufficient enzyme activity at the tumor site restricted its anti-tumor application.

October 2024

Department of Intensive Care Unit, Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and Disorders, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Child Development and Disorders, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Pediatric Metabolism and Inflammatory Diseases, Chongqing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Pediatric sepsis is a serious condition marked by an abnormal immune response to infection, and this study examines the role of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) in it.
  • Serum samples from patients with sepsis, critically ill controls, and healthy individuals were analyzed to assess levels of renin and angiotensin (1-7) on the day of admission to the pediatric intensive care unit.
  • Findings indicated that higher renin levels and lower angiotensin (1-7) levels in sepsis patients are associated with worse outcomes, suggesting these markers could be useful for predicting the severity and survival in pediatric sepsis.

RNA G4, as an integral branch of G4 structure, possesses distinct interactions with ligands compared to the common DNA G4, thus the investigation of RNA G4/ligand interactions might be considered as a fresh breakthrough to improve the biosensing performance of G4/ligand system. In this study, we comparatively explored the structural and functional mechanisms of RNA G4 and DNA G4 in the interaction with ligands, hemin and thioflavin T (ThT), utilizing the classical PS2.M sequence as a model.

The precise delivery of drugs to tumor sites and the thermoresistance of tumors remain major challenges in photothermal therapy (PTT). Somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2) is proposed as an ideal target for the precise treatment of SCLC. We developed a targeting nano-drug delivery system comprising anti-SSTR2 monoclonal antibody (MAb) surface-modified nanoparticles co-encapsulating Cypate and gambogic acid (GA).

17α-Hydroxyprogesterone (17α-OHP) quantification in dried blood spots (DBS) is essential for newborn screening for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which is challenging due to its low physiological concentration. The high false-positive rates of immunoassays necessitate the development of more accurate methods. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) offers increased specificity and sensitivity, yet standardized procedures for 17α-OHP measurement are required for clinical application.

Due to increasing food safety issues, developing intelligent, on-site, and visual methods for detecting fish freshness has attracted significant attention. Here, we have prepared a benzo[h]chromene derivative BCN that can visually detect 12 biogenic amines (BAs) with high sensitivity. The mechanism for recognizing cadaverine (Cad) is that the probe reacts with Cad to produce a Schiff base derivative, which alters the charge distribution within the molecule, resulting in significant colorimetric and fluorescence changes.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most widespread cancer in the world, and its development is associated with complex biological mechanisms that are poorly understood. Here, we revealed a marked upregulation in the mRNA level of C1orf131 in LUAD samples compared to non-tumor tissue samples in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Depletion of C1orf131 suppressed cell proliferation and growth, whereas it stimulated apoptosis in LUAD cells.

Dysregulated lipid metabolism in the bone marrow microenvironment (BMM) plays a vital role in multiple myeloma (MM) development, progression, and drug resistance. However, the exact mechanism by which lipid metabolism impacts the BMM, promotes tumorigenesis, and triggers drug resistance remains to be fully elucidated.By analyzing the bulk sequencing and single-cell sequencing data of MM patients, we identified lipid metabolism-related genes differential expression significantly associated with MM prognosis, referred to as LMRPgenes.

Background: Our previous studies have indicated that mRNA and protein levels of PPIH are significantly upregulated in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (LIHC) and could act as predictive biomarkers for patients with LIHC. Nonetheless, the expression and implications of PPIH in the etiology and progression of common solid tumors have yet to be explored, including its potential as a serum tumor marker.

Methods: We employed bioinformatics analyses, augmented with clinical sample evaluations, to investigate the mRNA and protein expression and gene regulation networks of PPIH in various solid tumors.
