Acute neuroinflammation promotes a metabolic shift that alters extracellular vesicle cargo in the mouse brain cortex.

Neuroinflammation is initiated through microglial activation and cytokine release which can be induced through lipopolysaccharide treatment (LPS) leading to a transcriptional cascade culminating in the differential expression of target proteins. These differentially expressed proteins can then be packaged into extracellular vesicles (EVs), a form of cellular communication, further propagating the neuroinflammatory response over long distances. Despite this, the EV proteome in the brain, following LPS treatment, has not been investigated.

High resolution imaging and analysis of extracellular vesicles using mass spectral imaging and machine learning.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are potentially useful biomarkers for disease detection and monitoring. Development of a label-free technique for imaging and distinguishing small volumes of EVs from different cell types and cell states would be of great value. Here, we have designed a method to explore the chemical changes in EVs associated with neuroinflammation using Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and machine learning (ML).

Background And Aims: Perinatal grief have a significant influence on maternal mental health, hence appropriate tools for assessment are necessary. In this study, we translated and validated the Perinatal Grief Scale in Urdu (PGS-Urdu) for use in Pakistan, therefore filling the gap in validated tools.

Methods: Data was collected from 165 women using consecutive sampling.

Reciprocal relationships between time pressure and mental or physical health in Australian mothers of preschool aged children.

The associations between time pressure and health are typically conceptualised and examined as unidirectional. This study examined the reciprocal relationships between time pressure and mental and physical health amongst working mothers of preschool children; a high-risk group for feeling time pressured. Using 5 waves of a panel study of Australian mothers when their children were aged 0-4 (n = 3878) and cross-lagged structural equation models, we find strong significant negative reciprocal associations between time pressure and mental and physical health, although these reciprocal associations were stronger and more consistent over time for mental health.

A survey of current practice in reporting third trimester fetal biometry and Doppler in Australia and New Zealand.

Introduction: Inconsistent reporting practices in third trimester ultrasound, the choice of reference charts in particular, have the potential to misdiagnose abnormal fetal growth. But this may lead to unnecessary anxiety and confusion amongst patients and clinicians and ultimately influence clinical management. Therefore, we sought to determine the extent of variability in choice of fetal biometry and Doppler reference charts and reporting practices in Australia and New Zealand.

A novel evaluation of density differences in subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue layers in pregnancy using elastography.

Introduction: Chronic inflammation leads to adipose tissue (AT) fibrosis through excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins. An increasing degree of fibrosis in AT is associated with increasing body mass index (BMI) and insulin resistance. Anecdotally AT has been observed to vary with ease of ultrasound penetration on medical examinations.

Anthropometric and ultrasound measures of maternal adiposity in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Aim: Estimations of central adiposity in pregnancy is a difficult undertaking due to physiological changes that occur in the body. Therefore, the value of some anthropometric measures particularly in pregnancy, such as body mass index (BMI), waist and hip measures are in doubt. The aim was to compare ultrasound (US) measured abdominal subcutaneous fat (USSFT) with other simple anthropometric methods for obesity assessment, evaluating these measures in pregnancy.
