Enteric septicemia of catfish (ESC), caused by the gram-negative enteric bacteria Edwardsiella ictaluri, is a significant threat to catfish aquaculture in the southeastern United States. Antibiotic intervention can reduce mortality; however, antibiotic use results in an imbalance, or dysbiosis, of the gut microbiota, which may increase susceptibility of otherwise healthy fish to enteric infections. Herein, recovery of the intestinal microbiota and survivability of channel catfish in response to ESC challenge was evaluated following a 10-day course of florfenicol and subsequent probiotic or prebiotic supplementation.

This study aims to investigate the change in heavy metal concentration and evaluate pollution intensity using Sentinel-2 data. Sixty samples collected from the surface soil in the area were used to determine the concentration of lead, copper, and zinc using atomic absorption spectroscopy. Then, the step-by-step regression method was used in ArcGIS software to determine the relationship between the concentration of heavy metals and the ranking of the influential spectral bands of Sentinel-2 to monitor heavy metals in the relevant sampling points.

Dormancy-Associated Genes 1/Auxin-Repressed Proteins (DRM1/ARP) are associated with bud dormancy, repression of plant growth, and responsiveness to hormones. To further explore the function of DRM1 proteins in rice, we isolated a dormancy-associated gene1 (OsDRM1) through microarray analysis. In situ hybridization analyses revealed that OsDRM1 is predominantly expressed in dormant axillary buds, while it is weakly expressed in growing buds, indicating that OsDRM1 gene can be used as a molecular marker for bud dormancy in rice.

In this study, a novel zwitterion-substituted lignin (ZL) containing amino and sulfonic acid groups was synthesized, and ZL/Nafion composite membranes were fabricated as proton exchange membranes. Kraft lignin was modified using an aminosilane and 1,3-propanesultone via a continuous grafting reaction to provide zwitterionic moieties. Chemical structural analyses confirmed the successful introduction of the zwitterion moiety into lignin.

Four statistical selection methods for inferring transcription factor (TF)-target gene (TG) pairs were developed by coupling mean squared error (MSE) or Huber loss function, with elastic net (ENET) or least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) penalty. Two methods were also developed for inferring pathway gene regulatory networks (GRNs) by combining Huber or MSE loss function with a network (Net)-based penalty. Indocyanine green (ICG), glucose oxidase (GOx), and copper(II) sulfate (Cu)-installed hybrid gel based on organic nanorod (cellulose nanocrystal [CNC]) and inorganic nanodisk (Laponite [LAP]) was developed to perform a combination of starvation therapy (ST), chemodynamic therapy (CDT), and photothermal therapy (PTT) for localized cancers. A hybrid CNC/LAP network with a nematic phase was designed to enable instant gelation, controlled viscoelasticity, syringe injectability, and longer in vivo retention. Moreover, ICG was introduced into the CNC/LAP gel system to induce hyperthermia of tumor tissue, amplifying the CDT effect; GOx was used for glucose deprivation (related to the Warburg effect); and Cu was introduced for hydroxyl radical generation (based on Fenton-like chemistry) and cellular glutathione (GSH) degradation in cancer cells.
