Idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR), alternatively called progressive condylar resorption, is an uncommon aggressive form of degenerative disease of the temporomandibular joint seen mostly in adolescent and young women. ICR occurring before the completion of growth results in a shorter mandibular condyloid process, ramus and body, compensatory growth at the gonial angle and coronoid process, as well as an increase in anterior facial vertical dimension. Management options discussed include oral appliances, orthodontics, medical management, orthognathic surgery with and without disc repositioning, and alloplastic temporomandibular joint replacement.

Ever since proangiogenic growth factors have been used as a vascular medicine to treat tissue ischemia, efforts have been increasingly made to develop a method to enhance efficacy of growth factors in recreating microvascular networks, especially at low dose. To this end, we hypothesized that polysaccharides substituted with sulfate groups would amplify growth factor receptor activation and stimulate phenotypic activities of endothelial cells involved in neovascularization. We examined this hypothesis by modifying alginate with a controlled number of sulfates and using it to derive a complex with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), as confirmed with fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) assay.

Purpose: To present patient reported changes in oral symptoms in response to an open-label product trial conducted in patients self-identifying as having Sjögren's syndrome.
Methods: A survey was conducted in conjunction with the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation and 151 foundation members completed a survey rating their common oral symptoms, based upon the Vanderbilt Head and Neck Symptom Survey before and after use of the trial products, including rinse, -lozenges, gel, and spray.
Results: Subjects reported multiple oral symptoms with the highest rated symptoms involving dry mouth with 80% of symptoms showing statistically significant reduction from pre- to posttest.

S100A8 and S100A9 regulate polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) recruitment and represent 40% of PMN cytosolic protein weight. We have shown that S100A8/S100A9 inhibit PMN oxidative metabolism. The present study was designed to elucidate the mechanisms of this anti-oxidative effect.
