Objectives/aims: This study was designed to determine the endodontic working length (WL) of root canals using digital extraoral periapical radiography (EOPAR) technique and comparing its accuracy with the standard digital intraoral periapical radiography (IOPAR).

Materials And Methods: Sixty single-rooted mandibular first premolars indicated for orthodontic extraction were radiographed preoperatively to ensure closed apices. After gaining endodontic access, WL was determined by IOPAR using paralleling technique, followed by EOPAR, by placing a cone at +35° from the contralateral side.

Purpose: Chronic periodontitis (CP) and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are chronic diseases affecting the humans and have interrelationship in their pathogenesis. Monitoring the progress with biomarker in these disease is important from treatment outcome point of view. We investigated the association of salivary developmental endothelial locus-1 (Del-1) and interleukin-17 (IL-17) levels in CP and T2DM.

Background: The increased prevalence of fluorosis has led to a search for biomarkers of fluoride exposure. Among the biomarkers of sub-chronic exposure to fluoride, hair, fingernails, and toenails have the advantage of being noninvasively collected, easily transported, and stored.

Objective: The objective of this study was to comparatively evaluate coronal hair, fingernails, and toenails as biomarkers of fluoride exposure from drinking water; the study was designed as a population-based observational cross-sectional study.

Background: Oral exfoliative cytology is simple, non-invasive, inexpensive tools prone to subjective bias. Objective computer-based quantitative cytomorphometry technique was developed in last few decades to overcome its limitation. However, there is no consensus about the utility of cytomorphometry as a routine screening tool for early detection of dysplastic changes.

Aim: To systematically evaluate the literature evidence related to oral health and quality of life (QoL) among HIV-positive adults.

Background: The oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) is an essential entity to be measured for understanding the domains affected due to oral health problems. HIV comes with an array of complexities in the oral cavity and is also reflection of the systemic illness of the oral cavity.

Aim: Sodium hypochlorite, though considered an ideal root canal irrigant, cannot be used at required concentrations in children, due to its undesirable effects. Hence, it is imperative to search for an ideal root canal irrigant to avoid these undesirable effects which we hope to achieve with this study. The antimicrobial efficacy of aqueous ozone, green tea, and normal saline as irrigants in pulpectomy procedures of the primary teeth has been compared.

The interdisciplinary collaboration of periodontics and orthodontics has allowed teeth to be moved 2-3 times faster, reducing the time required for traditional orthodontic therapy considerably. Periodontally accelerated osteogenic orthodontics (PAOO), also known as Wilckodontics, is a combination of a selective decortication facilitated orthodontics and alveolar augmentation. With this technique, there is no dependence on the pre-existing alveolar volume.

Introduction: Increasing age, long-term deleterious habits, and increased bone resorption leading to the gingival recession have become a significant reason for poor geriatric oral health among which root caries are the most prevalent ones among the Indian population.

Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted among the geriatric population above 60 years of age and those who gave voluntary consent for participating in the study were included in the study and were briefed about the questionnaire. The self-administered questionnaire was given and complete oral examination was done.

Biological implant failures are primarily related to biofilm, which can lead to peri-mucositis and, further on, peri-implantitis. The 810-nm diode laser has an affinity for pigmented chromophores, so its use in the peri-implant sulcus has a significant bactericidal effect on the black-pigmented anaerobes such as Porphyromonas gingivalis. Therefore, it can be used to eliminate or reduce the bacterial count in the peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF), thus increasing the life of the implants and reducing the chances of failure.

Background: Condylar process fracture is one of the most common mandibular fractures. Approximately 11-16% of all facial fractures and 30-40% of all mandibular fractures are fractures of the mandibular condyle. Treatment can broadly be divided into open or closed, but there are no clear criteria to determine the choice between them.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the interrelationship between salivary levels of human neutrophil antimicrobial peptides (AMP) 1-3 (HNP 1-3), LL-37 and periodontitis in individuals with and without type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

Methods: Eighty individuals were enrolled and grouped as follows: Group I: 20 healthy individuals, Group II: 20 systemically healthy individuals with chronic periodontitis (CP), Group III: 20 individuals with T2DM only and Group IV: 20 individuals T2DM and CP. Plaque index, probing pocket depth, bleeding on probing and clinical attachment levels were evaluated.

Background: Periodic clinical examination of the oral cavity is the mainstay for the early detection of oral cancers which can be further aided by screening individuals with high-risk factors that will identify candidates who should receive treatment to prevent cancer progression and reduce patient mortality. Among the diagnostic tools, staining is advocated as a simple, inexpensive and fairly sensitive method.

Materials And Methods: The present study involved the examination of fifty patients suspected of oral malignant or precancerous lesions by methylene blue staining.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Peoples College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Peoples University, Bhanpur, Bhopal, 462 037, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Introduction: Intermaxillary fixation (IMF) is commonly performed in the management of facial skeleton fractures. Various conventional methods like Erich's arch bar and Ivy eyelet wiring are the most commonly employed methods for achieving IMF, but they have their own disadvantages. Conventional Erich's arch bar (CEAB) has been modified recently by making perforations in the spaces between the winglets and securing the arch bar using 1 mm screws.

Glass ionomer cement is a widely used luting agent for indirect restorations but presents inferior mechanical properties compared to resin cement due to its low elastic modulus. This study evaluated the mechanical and adhesion properties of glass ionomer luting cements reinforced with nano-sized hydroxyapatite particles (HA). The nano-sized HA particles were synthesized using the co-precipitation technique and the resulting precipitate was characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), field emission scanning electron (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

J Pharm Bioallied Sci

February 2019

Department of Preventive Dental Sciences, College of Dentistry, Dar Al Uloom University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Existence of smear layer in root canals caused by instrumentation is believed to prevent penetration of irrigating agents, thereby resulting in endodontic treatment.

Aims And Objectives: To compare and evaluate the effectiveness of two irrigants: 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and mixture of tetracycline isomer, an acid, and a detergent (MTAD) as final agents for eliminating the smear layer.

Materials And Methods: We included 50 human lower premolar teeth whose crowns were sectioned at cementoenamel junction.
