Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

College of Chemistry and Engineering/Film Energy Chemistry for Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory (FEC), Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330031, PR China.

Organic solar cells (OSCs) based on giant molecular acceptors (GMAs) have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent power conversion efficiency (PCE) and operation stability. However, the large conjugated plane of GMAs poses great challenges in regulating the solubility, over-size aggregation and yield, which in turn further constrains their development in commercial products. Herein, we employ a non-fused skeleton strategy to develop novel non-fused star-shape trimers (3BTT6F and 3BTT6Cl) for improving device performance.

Achieving high-durability aqueous Zn-ion batteries enabled by reanimating inactive Zn on Zn anodes.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

Youth Innovation Team of Shandong Higher Education Institutions, College of Chemical Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao 266042, China. Electronic address:

The heavy by-products generated on Zn anode surface decrease the active surface of Zn anodes and thus induce uneven Zn deposition, seriously reducing the service life of aqueous Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs). Herein, we propose an elimination strategy enabled by the coordination chemistry to dissolve the main by-products (ZnSO(OH)·xHO). Urea as a proof-of-concept has been applied as the reactivator in the electrolyte to catalytically produce highly active NH on the surface of the by-products.

Stimulus-responsive gating of chemical reactions is of considerable practical and conceptual interest. For example, photocleavable protective groups and gating mechanophores allow the kinetics of purely thermally activated reactions to be controlled optically or by mechanical load by inducing the release of small-molecule reactants. Such release only in response to a sequential application of both stimuli (photomechanochemical gating) has not been demonstrated despite its unique expected benefits.

In spite of organic-inorganic perovskite emerging as a novel efficient light-harvesting material owing to their superior optical properties, excitonic properties, and electrical conductivity, the related applications are severely limited for their poor stability and selectivity. Herein, we introduced hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) and 2-(perfluorohexyl) ethyl methacrylate (PFEM) based molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) to dual-functionalize CHNHPbI. HCSs can provide perovskite load conditions, passivate perovskite defects, increase carrier transport and effectively improve its hydrophobicity.

Enantioselective Divergent Syntheses of Alkaloids: (-)-Cephalotaxine, (-)-Cephalotine B, and (-)-Fortuneicyclidins A and B.

J Am Chem Soc

April 2023

State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730000, China.

A new strategy focusing on the last-stage asymmetric assembly of the ring D, which inherently possesses the densest part of stereogenic centers and functional groups in the A/B/C/D ring system of (-)-cephalotaxine, has been developed, in which a novel Rh-catalyzed asymmetric (2 + 3) annulation of tertiary enamides with enoldiazoacetates is designed and explored for enantioselective construction of the crucial cyclopentane ring D bearing a unique spirocyclic aza-quaternary stereocenter. Based on the expeditious access of chiral functionalized building block with the tetracyclic A/B/C/D ring system, a concise enantioselective total synthesis of (-)-cephalotaxine starting from readily available homopiperonyl alcohol has been achieved in nine steps with only two column chromatography purifications. Following the tactical introduction of the Meinwald rearrangement, enantioselective divergent syntheses of (-)-cephalotine B with an additional C3-O-C11 oxo-bridged bond (14 steps), (-)-fortuneicyclidin B with an unprecedented C3-C10 bond (14 steps), and its 2-epimer (-)-fortuneicyclidin A (16 steps) have been also accomplished for the first time.

Heavy metal ions (HMIs) pose a serious threat to the environment and human body because they are toxic and non-biodegradable and widely exist in environmental ecosystems. It is necessary to develop a rapid, sensitive and convenient method for HMIs detection to provide a strong guarantee for ecology and human health. Ion-imprinted electrochemical sensors (IIECSs) based on nanomaterials have been regarded as an excellent technology because of the good selectivity, the advantages of fast detection speed, low cost, and portability.

With the great potential of the all-polymer solar cells for large-area wearable devices, both large-area device efficiency and mechanical flexibility are very critical but attract limited attention. In this work, from the perspective of the polymer configurations, two types of terpolymer acceptors PYTX-A and PYTX-B (X = Cl or H) are developed. The configuration difference caused by the replacement of non-conjugated units results in distinct photovoltaic performance and mechanical flexibility.

Fruit juices (FJs) are frequently taken owing to their nutritious benefits, appealing flavour, and vibrant colour. The colours of the FJs are critical indicators of the qualitative features that influence the consumer's attention. Although FJs' intrinsic acidity serves as a barrier to bacterial growth, their enzymatic stability remains an issue for their shelf life.

Gold nanoparticle-based colorimetric aptasensor for rapid detection of multiple mycotoxins in rice.

Anal Methods

December 2021

College of Food Science and Technology, Hainan University, 58 Renmin Avenue, Haikou 570228, China.

A novel, simple and rapid colorimetric aptasensor for multiple mycotoxins (ochratoxin A (OTA) and aflatoxin B (AFB)) detection was developed using unmodified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). In the work, the high affinities of OTA and AFB aptamers were employed as the recognition elements for the colorimetric determination of OTA and AFB. In the absence of mycotoxins, the sulfhydryl-modified aptamers were directly adsorbed to the AuNP surface through Au-S bonds, further prohibiting the aggregation induced by a high concentration of salt, and the solutions remain red.

A novel ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunoassay based on Au/CaCO was proposed for detecting ochratoxin A (OTA) in coffee. Au/CaCO nanocomposites synthesized using waste eggshells as the template with a large surface area and excellent electrochemical properties were applied for immobilizing a large amount of Ru(bpy) and conjugating a high-affinity nanobody (prepared by the phage display technique). Coupling of the Au/CaCO nanocomposites and nanobody technologies provided an ultrasensitive and highly selective ECL immunosensor for OTA detection in the range of 10 pg/mL-100 ng/mL with a low detection limit of 5.

A Polymer with Mechanochemically Active Hidden Length.

J Am Chem Soc

October 2020

Department of Chemistry, University of Liverpool, Crown Street, Liverpool L69 7ZD, U.K.

Incorporating hidden length into polymer chains can improve their mechanical properties, because release of the hidden length under mechanical loads enables localized strain relief without chain fracture. To date, the design of hidden length has focused primarily on the choice of the sacrificial bonds holding the hidden length together. Here we demonstrate the advantages of adding mechanochemical reactivity to hidden length itself, using a new mechanophore that integrates ()-2,3-diphenylcyclobutene-1,4-dicarboxylate, with hitherto unknown mechanochemistry, into macrocyclic cinnamate dimers.
