Background: In resource-poor settings, perinatal infections contribute significantly to maternal and neonatal deaths, and the use of clean delivery kits (CDKs) has been proposed as a tool to reduce the risk of infection-related deaths. This study aims to assess the acceptability and effectiveness of CDKs in preventing infections in deliveries attended by traditional birth attendants (TBAs) in Abeokuta, Nigeria.
Methods: The study was a cluster-randomized trial with 67 birth centres/clusters, 453 births/mothers, and 457 babies randomized to intervention or control arms; intervention involved supplementation of delivery with JANMA CDKs.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess maternal dietary food intake patterns, anthropometric measures, and multiple biochemical markers in women with gestational diabetes mellitus and pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence and to explore whether antedating gestational diabetes mellitus environment affects the pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence development in a cohort of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus and pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence.
Methods: Maternal dietary information and anthropometric measurements were collected. At 24 wk of gestation, with a fasting venipuncture sample, current blood samples for biochemical markers of hormones, vitamins, and minerals were analyzed.

This study explored the effect of naringin (NAR) on HGPRT1 deficiency and hyperuricemia through NOS-cAMP-PKA and BDNF/TrkB signaling pathways induced by caffeine (CAF) and KBrO in a rat model. Sixty-three adult male albino rats were randomly assigned into nine (n = 7) groups. Group I: control animals, Group II was treated with 100 mg/kg KBrO , Group III was treated with 250 mg/kg CAF, Group IV was treated with 100 mg/kg KBrO + 250 mg/kg CAF, Group V was administered with 100 mg/kg KBrO + 100 mg/kg haloperidol, Group VI was administered with 100 mg/kg KBrO + 50 mg/kg NAR, Group VII was administered with 500 mg/kg CAF + 50 mg/kg NAR, and Group VIII was administered with 100 mg/kg KBrO + 250 mg/kg CAF + 50 mg/kg NAR.

Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), a high-mortality-rate shrimp disease, is caused by specific (Vp) strains with a plasmid encoding the PirAB toxins. As a bacterial pathogen, the invasion of AHPND-causing Vp might impose pressure on commensal microbiota in the shrimp gut, while the relationship between the pathogenesis of AHPND and the dysbiosis of gut bacterial communities remains unclear. Here we explored the temporal changes of shrimp gut microbiota in response to AHPND-causing and non-AHPND-causing Vp strains, with the non-infected controls as a baseline of the shrimp gut microbiota.

Bisphenol A (BPA) and diethyl phthalate (DEP) are estrogenic endocrine disrupting chemicals (EEDCs). The present study reconfirmed that the angle of the ceratohyal cartilage (CH) in embryos were larger from maternal BPA and E2, but smaller from DEP compared to the control. However, it is still unknown whether both the BPA and DEP chemicals disrupted the action of E2 and thereby influence the estrogen signaling pathways.

D-allulose is a natural rare sugar with important physiological properties that is used in food, health care items, and even the pharmaceutical industry. In the current study, a novel D-allulose 3-epimerase gene (Bp-DAE) from the probiotic strain was discovered for the production and characterization of an enzyme known as Bp-DAE that can epimerize D-fructose into D-allulose. Bp-DAE was strictly dependent on metals (Mn and Co), and the addition of 1 mM of Mn could enhance the half-life of Bp-DAE at 55 °C from 60 to 180 min.

The proto-oncogenic protein, c-KIT, plays a crucial role in regulating cellular transformation and differentiation processes, such as proliferation, survival, adhesion, and chemotaxis. The overexpression of, and mutations, in c-KIT can lead to its dysregulation and promote various human cancers, particularly gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs); approximately 80-85% of cases are associated with oncogenic mutations in the gene. Inhibition of c-KIT has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for GISTs.
