Grape ( L.) in production is frequently exposed to inadequate light, which significantly affects its agronomic traits via inhibiting their physiological, metabolic and developmental processes. To explore the mechanism how the grape plants respond to the weak light stress, we used 'Yinhong' grape and examined their physiology-biochemistry characteristics and transcriptional profile under different levels of weak light stress.

Terpene synthase (TPS) plays important roles in the synthesis of terpenoids which are the main fragrances in flowers. To understand the function of genes in terpenoid metabolism in relation to flower aroma formation, we identified all gene family members in by analyzing its genome database. We then used a transcriptomic approach to analyze the differential gene expression patterns of gene family members in the scented flower compared to the non-scented flower 'Nova Zembla'.

The effect of γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) treatment on ascorbic acid (AsA) metabolism and chilling injury in postharvest kiwifruit was studied. The results revealed that kiwifruit treated with GABA displayed higher chilling tolerance and better quality maintenance as compared to the controls. Higher AsA was observed in GABA-treated fruit which was beneficial to cell membrane protection and damage alleviation against chilling mediated oxidative stress.

With the emergence of environmental issues regarding persistent organic pollutants (POPs), fugacity models have been widely used in the concentration prediction and exposure assessment of POPs. Based on 778 relevant research articles published between 1979 and 2020 in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC), the current research progress of the fugacity model on predicting the fate and transportation of POPs in the environment was analyzed by CiteSpace software. The results showed that the research subject has low interdisciplinarity, mainly involving environmental science and environmental engineering.

The forkhead transcription factor Foxl2 plays a major role in ovarian development and function in mice and fish, and acts as a female sex-determining gene in goat. Its functional role in the sex determination and gonadal differentiation has not yet been investigated in reptiles. Here, we characterized Foxl2 gene in Chinese soft-shelled turtle Pelodiscus sinensis, exhibiting ZZ/ZW sex chromosomes.

Aim Of The Study: Although vine tea has demonstrated broad-spectrum anti-cancer properties, its main active compounds, dihydromyricetin (DMY) and myricitrin (MYT), exert weaker effects than the tea extracts. This study aimed to investigate the synergistic inhibitory effects of DMY and MYT on B16F10 cell proliferation and their synergistic inhibitory effects.
Methods: The effect of vine tea extracts (VTEs) and their active compounds on B16F10 cells was analyzed by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, fluorescence staining, and flow cytometry.

The effect of hydrogen-rich water (HRW) treatment on softening, cell wall components and cell wall metabolic genes in okras after harvest was studied. The results showed that HRW treatment could maintain fruit firmness and delay softening, thereby prolonging shelf life in okras during storage. The treated okras displayed significantly lower levels water- and chelate-soluble pectins while higher contents of NaCO-soluble pectin, hemicellulose and cellulose.

To improve the dispersity and antioxidant properties of curcumin, curcumin emulsions covered with cellulose particles (CP) with different structures were successfully prepared, and the structural characteristics, stability, and antioxidant properties of emulsions were investigated. The results showed that the CP obtained by increasing the hydrolysis time had smaller particle size, better water dispersion, and interfacial adsorption capacity. The encapsulation efficiency of curcumin in emulsion stabilized by cellulose particle hydrolyzed for 10 h can reach about 80%.

Background: Tyrosinase inhibitor developments have been widely attended by investigators for their various applications.
Objective: A combination of virtual screening of docking simulations and biochemical inhibition kinetics was performed to find a new inhibitor of tyrosinase for the clinical application of an antipigment agent.
Methods: We conducted docking simulations to detect tyrosinase key binding residues and used the detected binding residues to screen the NCBI PubChem database for probing tyrosinase binding compounds.

Increasing evidence indicates that microbes colonized in early life stages have a long-term effect on animal wellbeing in later life stages. Related research is still limited in aquatic animals, particularly in bivalve mollusks. In this study, we analyzed the dynamics of the bacterial composition of the pelagic larval stages (fertilized egg, trochophore, D-stage, veliger, and pediveliger) and the sessile postlarval stage (spat) of Kumamoto oyster () and their relationships with the rearing water bacterioplankton in a hatchery by using Illumina sequencing of bacterial 16S rRNA gene.

Hemocyanins present in the hemolymph of invertebrates are multifunctional proteins that are responsible for oxygen transport and play crucial roles in the immune system. They have also been identified as a source of antimicrobial peptides during infection in mollusks. Hemocyanin has also been identified in the cephalopod ancestor Nautilus, but antimicrobial peptides derived from the hemocyanin of have not been reported.

KDM6B-mediated epigenetic modification of the testicular regulator Dmrt1 has previously been identified as the primary switch of the male pathway in a temperature-dependent sex-determination (TSD) system; however, the molecular network of the female pathway has not yet been established. Here, we have functionally characterized for the first time an upstream regulator of the female pathway, the forkhead transcription factor FOXL2, in Trachemys scripta, a turtle species with a TSD system. FOXL2 exhibited temperature-dependent female-specific expression patterns before the onset of gonadal differentiation and was preferentially localized in ovarian somatic cells.

Peach fruit is prone to chilling injury (CI) during long-term low temperature (LT) storage, and develops protective mechanisms against LT stress. This study revealed that 4 °C storage induced the occurrence of CI in peach fruit by promoting the expression of membrane lipid metabolism genes and phosphatidic acid (PA) accumulation, and stimulated a protective mechanism for peach fruit against LT by increasing diacylglycerol (DAG), triacylglycerol (TAG) and several phosphatidylcholine (PC) components in the later storage stage. In contrast, 0 °C delayed the occurrence of CI in peach fruit by delaying the degradation of phospholipids, upregulation of fatty acid desaturase (FAD) and the process of fatty acid unsaturation, and maintaining higher levels of PC and PE.

Aquaculture is one of the most efficient modes of animal protein production and plays an important role in global food security. Aquaculture animals exhibit extraordinarily diverse sexual phenotypes and underlying mechanisms, providing an ideal system to perform sex determination research, one of the important areas in life science. Moreover, sex is also one of the most valuable traits because sexual dimorphism in growth, size, and other economic characteristics commonly exist in aquaculture animals.

Low temperatures are known to destroy cell membranes' structural integrity by affecting the remodeling of their phospholipids. Fruits stored at low temperature are prone to chilling injury, characterized by discoloration, absence of ripening, surface pitting, growth inhibition, flavor loss, decay, and wilting. Phosphatidic acid, a vital second-messenger lipid in plants, is known to accumulate in response to different kinds of stress stimuli.

In marine ecosystems, dissolved oxygen (DO) is essential for maintaining intracellular energy balance during aerobic metabolism. Bivalve mollusks are frequently exposed to hypoxia environments due to tides, temperature changes, and anthropogenic activities. The blood clam, Tegillarca granosa, mainly inhabits intertidal mudflats and is more susceptible to low oxygen events.
