Large-berry coffee (Coffea liberica) is an important coffee species in China and is facing threats from anthracnose, a widespread and damaging disease affecting coffee plants globally.
Between June and September 2022, a significant outbreak of anthracnose was recorded in Yunnan, China, with disease incidence ranging from 8.5% to 28.2%, affecting all growth stages of the coffee plants.
Researchers successfully isolated the causal pathogen, Colletotrichum kahawae, which showed consistent infection in laboratory conditions, thereby demonstrating the link between the pathogen and the disease symptoms using Koch's Postulates.
