January 2025

Department of Rehabilitation Therapeutics, School of Nursing, Jilin University, Changchun, Jilin, China.

Cholinergic deficiency and neuroinflammation are the two main factors of Alzheimer's disease. Recent studies have shown that water-soluble ginseng oligosaccharides (WGOS) derived from Panax ginseng roots can protect against scopolamine-induced impairments in learning and memory. However, the fundamental mechanisms remain unclear for the most part.

Environ Pollut

December 2024

Xiamen Key Laboratory of Indoor Air and Health, Center for Excellence in Regional Atmospheric Environment, Key Lab of Urban Environment and Health, Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xiamen, 361021, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from gut microbiota pose significant health risks and can be influenced by non-antibiotic factors like disease states, particularly in cases of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (I/R) which is common in stroke patients.
  • Changes in the gut antibiotic resistome during I/R show an increase in tetracycline ARGs while other types, like aminoglycoside and glycopeptide ARGs, decrease, suggesting a shift in microbial resistance profiles.
  • The study identifies specific ARG hosts and pathways influenced by I/R, highlighting the increase in multidrug resistance genes and various biosynthetic processes in gut microbiota, providing potential targets for health interventions.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Severe Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Key Laboratory of Pathobiology Ministry of Education, China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University, Changchun, 130033, China.

In the post-large era, various COVID-19 sequelae are getting more and more attention to health problems. Although the mortality rate of the COVID-19 infection is now declining, it is often accompanied by new clinical sequelae with different symptoms such as fatigue after infection, loss of smell. The degree of age, gender, virus infection seems to be weakly correlated with clinical symptoms.

December 2024

College of Medicine and Health Sciences, China Three Gorges University, Yichang 443002, China; Hubei Key Laboratory of Tumor Microenvironment and Immunotherapy, China Three Gorges University, Yichang 443002, China. Electronic address:

Background: Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 (FGF21) is a naturally occurring peptide hormone involved in the regulation of glycolipid metabolism, and it shows promise as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the short half-life and poor pharmacokinetics of native FGF21 limit its efficacy in reducing hyperglycemia in vivo. Therefore, maintaining stable and sustained blood concentrations of FGF21 is crucial for its role as an effective regulator of glycolipid metabolism in vivo.

Psychoneuroendocrinology

December 2024

Department of Physiology, College of Basic Medical Sciences, Naval Medical University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Chronic stress is involved in pathophysiology of depression, and causes some neurochemical alterations in brain. Both mitochondrial dysfunction and neuroinflammation are implicated in mediating the depression-like behavior. The objectives of present study were, at first, to confirm that chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) induces depression-like behavior and alters mitochondrial function and inflammatory responses within the brain, and then to explore the role of mitochondria in the development of this depression-like behavior.

Clinically, infectious bone defects represent a significant threat, leading to osteonecrosis, severely compromising patient prognosis, and prolonging hospital stays. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop a bone graft substitute that combines broad-spectrum antibacterial efficacy and bone-inductive properties, providing an effective treatment option for infectious bone defects. In this study, the precision of digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing technology was utilized to construct a scaffold, incorporating zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) modified barium titanate (BT) with hydroxyapatite (HA), resulting in a piezoelectric ceramic scaffold designed for the repair of infected bone defects.
