Early Infant Diagnosis of HIV infection services are crucial for managing the perinatally acquired HIV infection. Assessing the performance of the EID services and its underlying determinants is important for the National AIDS Control Program, India. The objectives of this study were to find out access to HIV testing, the timeliness of the testing cascade, and the proportion of HIV exposed infants who are followed up to 18 months for a definitive diagnosis of HIV.

The aim of the current analysis is to evaluate the significances of magnetic dipole and heat transmission through ternary hybrid Carreau Yasuda nanoliquid flow across a vertical stretching sheet. The ternary compositions of AlO, SiO, and TiO nanoparticles (nps) in the Carreau Yasuda fluid are used to prepare the ternary hybrid nanofluid (Thnf). The heat transfer and velocity are observed in context of heat source/sink and Darcy Forchhemier effect.

Stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF1) and its C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 receptor (CXCR4) are significant mediators for cancer cells' proliferation, and we studied their expression in Ehrlich solid tumors (ESTs) grown in mice. α-Hederin is a pentacyclic triterpenoid saponin found in Hedera or Nigella species with biological activity that involves suppression of growth of breast cancer cell lines. The aim of this study was to explore the chemopreventive activity of α-hederin with/without cisplatin; this was achieved by measuring the reduction in tumor masses and the downregulation in SDF1/CXCR4/pAKT signaling proteins and nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB).

  • Diseases affecting the oral cavity and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are linked to limited mobility, resulting in poor oral health and increased periodontal issues.
  • A study involving 200 subjects assessed hand grip strength, joint pain, and their impact on oral health, comparing those with and without joint pain.
  • Results showed that individuals without joint pain had better oral hygiene and joint movement, highlighting the negative impact of musculoskeletal disorders on overall health.

Despite the existence of modern antidiabetic medications, diabetes still affects millions of individuals worldwide, with a high death and disability rate. There has been a concerted search for alternative natural medicinal agents; luteolin (LUT), a polyphenolic molecule, might be a good choice, both because of its efficacy and because of it having fewer side effects, compared to conventional medicines. This study aims to explore the antidiabetic potential of LUT in diabetic rats, induced by streptozotocin (STZ; 50 mg/kg b.

Article Synopsis
  • Combination therapy using 'rifampicin-cefotaxime' and 'rifampicin-tetracycline' is crucial for treating serious bacterial infections by targeting multi-drug resistant strains of E. coli and K. pneumoniae.
  • Individual antibiotics showed high minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values, but their combinations were significantly more effective in inhibiting bacterial growth.
  • DNA studies indicated that these combinations can effectively damage bacterial DNA, suggesting that they help maintain susceptibility to rifampicin, which is not achieved by rifampicin alone; further research in animal models is necessary for practical application.

Persistent Mullerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS) is a type of pseudohermaphroditism that occurs in males. It is an autosomal recessive type of familial disease that is commonly associated with a history of consanguinity. We have documented this case of a 22-year-old adult male who came with acute right iliac pain; after an ultrasound scan and hormone investigations, he was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Actinobacteria obtained from the least explored Indian regions were studied for their ability to suppress meningitis-causing bacteria in nanoparticle form. Drug-resistant bacteria and long-term treatment with different medications make meningitis control complicated. Thus, new meningitis drugs are required to combat MDR bacteria.

Dietary magnesium intake is related to larger brain volumes and lower white matter lesions with notable sex differences.

Eur J Nutr

August 2023

National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, College of Health and Medicine, Australian National University, 54 Mills Road, Canberra, ACT, 2601, Australia.

Purpose: To examine the association between dietary magnesium (Mg) intake and brain volumes and white matter lesions (WMLs) in middle to early old age.

Methods: Participants (aged 40-73 years) from UK Biobank (n = 6001) were included and stratified by sex. Dietary Mg was measured using an online computerised 24 h recall questionnaire to estimate daily Mg intake.

Several studies have confirmed that bioactive-compound-based herbal medicines extracted from the leaves, seeds, fruits and shoots of are vital to cure many diseases and infections, and for the healing of wounds. The β-carotene is a naturally occurring bioactive compound encoded by zeta-carotene desaturase (ZDS) and phytoene synthase (PSY) genes.

Background: Classic dichotic listening tests using speech stimuli result in right ear advantage, due to the dominant crossed pathway for speech and language. It is presumed that similar crossed dominance could exist for non-speech stimuli too. Hence, this is an attempt to develop and validate the dichotic non-speech test using environmental stimuli and explore the effect of focused attention on this test.

Obesity promotes breast epithelium DNA damage in women carrying a germline mutation in .

Sci Transl Med

February 2023

Department of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY 10065, USA.

Obesity, defined as a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30, is an established risk factor for breast cancer among women in the general population after menopause. Whether elevated BMI is a risk factor for women with a germline mutation in or is less clear because of inconsistent findings from epidemiological studies and a lack of mechanistic studies in this population. Here, we show that DNA damage in normal breast epithelia of women carrying a mutation is positively correlated with BMI and with biomarkers of metabolic dysfunction.
