Objectives: In vitro experiments were manipulated to investigate the effect of the (PICALM-interacting mitotic regulator gene) expression level on the malignant phenotype of liver cancer cells and their tumorigenesis ability in nude mice, and bioinformatics were used to analyze the clinical diagnostic and prognostic value in liver cancer.

Methods: After liver cancer-related data were obtained from the TCGA database and GTEx database, the differences in expression in liver cancer and normal liver tissue were compared using bioinformatics, and their correlation with the clinical pathological characteristics of liver cancer and the prognosis value were analyzed. A knockdown and overexpression model of was constructed using Huh7 cells.

Tumor size impact on TNM staging which define post-operative complications in rectal cancer.

J Robot Surg

April 2024

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Clinical Medical College Yangzhou University, Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital Affiliated Yangzhou University, Yangzhou University, No.98 Nantong West Road, Yangzhou, Jiangsu, China.

The purpose of this study was to see how accurate tumor size was at predicting T and N stages in rectal malignancies. Tumor sizes of 40 mm and greater than 40 mm were used to assess post-operative challenges in related to T1-T2 and T3-T4 stages, as well as between node N0 and node N1 and N2 patients. A total of 131 patients were treated for colorectal cancer, with 54 patients < 40 mm and 77 patients > 40 mm receiving Da Vinci colorectal surgery.

High positive charge-induced toxicity, easy lysosomal degradation of nucleic acid drugs, and poor lesion sites targeting are major problems faced in the development of gene carriers. Herein, we proposed the concept of self-escape non-cationic gene carriers for targeted delivery and treatment of photocontrolled hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with sufficient lysosome escape and multiple response capacities. Functional DNA was bound to the surface of biotin-PEG-modified graphitic carbon nitride (Bio-PEG-CN) nanosheets to form non-cationic nanocomplexes Bio-PEG-CN/DNA.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are working on ways to create a new trachea (the windpipe) for people who need a replacement, and having a good blood vessel network is super important for it to survive after being put in.
  • Traditionally, methods to help the trachea heal involve complicated surgeries, but this study looks at a new approach that helps the trachea build its own blood vessels right after it’s implanted.
  • The researchers made a special kind of graft that can promote cell growth and quickly develop blood vessels, and they also used special cells known as endothelial progenitor cells to help with this process, resulting in a successful transplant that keeps the patient healthy.

A 73-year-old man was hospitalized with upper abdominal pain of 1-month duration. Gastroscopy revealed a pedunculated polypoid mass with smooth surface and slightly yellowish color in the duodenal bulb. A long strip shaped mass with very low density in the duodenal was found in abdominal computed tomography .

Associations between gestational age and childhood sleep: a national retrospective cohort study.

BMC Med

August 2022

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, 2699 Gaoke Road, Shanghai, China.

Background: Both sleep quality and quantity are essential for normal brain development throughout childhood; however, the association between preterm birth and sleep problems in preschoolers is not yet clear, and the effects of gestational age across the full range from preterm to post-term have not been examined. Our study investigated the sleep outcomes of children born at very-preterm (<31 weeks), moderate-preterm (32-33 weeks), late-preterm (34-36 weeks), early-term (37-38 weeks), full-term (39-40 weeks), late-term (41 weeks) and post-term (>41 weeks).

Methods: A national retrospective cohort study was conducted with 114,311 children aged 3-5 years old in China.

Background: Total glucosides of paeony (TGP) has a myriad of hepatoprotective activities. However, its role in cirrhosis, a major risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma, remains largely unexplored. Here, we determined the impact of TGP on liver fibrosis and inflammation in mice modeled by carbon tetrachloride with an aim to explore a possible molecular mechanism.

Importance: It remains unknown whether children born at different degrees of prematurity, early term, and post term might have a higher risk of developmental coordination disorder (DCD) compared with completely full-term children (39-40 gestational weeks).

Objective: To differentiate between suspected DCD in children with different gestational ages based on a national representative sample in China.

Design, Setting, And Participants: A retrospective cohort study was conducted in China from April 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019.

Objective: This research was designed to probe into the effects of unilateral and bilateral pedicle screw fixation on the VAS scores of low back pain, leg pain, ODI indexes and JOA scores in patients with lumbar degenerative diseases.

Methods: Totally 113 patients with lumbar degenerative diseases admitted in our hospital from February 2016 to December 2018 were collected as the research objects. Among them, 52 received bilateral pedicle screw fixation (BPSF) and 61 were treated by unilateral pedicle screw fixation (UPSF).

Blueberry leaves, by-products of the blueberry industry, could be explored as source of functional foods, such as teas. Three different types of tea, including nonfermented green tea, semifermented oolong tea, and fully fermented red tea from blueberry leaves, were investigated on their chemical compositions and antioxidant capacities here. The contents of individual amino acids in three types varied, while the total amounts retained constant.

Hydroquinone (HQ), a major benzene metabolite, occurs naturally in various plants and is manufactured for commercial use. Although HQ displays various biological effects, its neuroprotective effects following ischemic insults have not been investigated. In this study, we first examined neuroprotective effects of HQ in a rat model of transient focal cerebral ischemia.

Background: The development of multidrug resistance (MDR) is a crucial problem of therapy failure in gastric cancer, which results in disease recurrence and metastasis. Plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT-1), a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), was previously found to be increased in gastric cancer patients and regulated the chemotherapy sensitivity in pancreatic cancer cells. However, the role of PVT1 in multidrug resistant Gastric cancer remains largely unexplored.

Aim: The novel YL-1 hollow needle aspiration drainage system is an effective minimally invasive treatment in chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH). In order to find the risk prognosis factors of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) performed by the novel YL-1 hollow needle aspiration drainage system, a logistic analysis of postoperative results was performed.

Methods: One hundred ninety-four cases of chronic subdural hematoma in a period of 7 years since 2004 were collected.

Background/aims: Multidrug resistance (MDR) is closely correlated to an unfavorable prognosis in various human cancers. However, the clinical significance of the expression of MDR-related proteins p-glycoprotein (PGP), glutathione-s-transferases (GST-pi), topoisomerase-II (Topo-II) and lung resistance protein (LRP) in primary gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma (PGCA) remains unclear. In this study, the total of the four kinds of MDR-related proteins mentioned above were detected by using immunohistochemistry and their clinical significance in chemoresistance were also investigated.
