NF-κB-inducing kinase (NIK) is an essential upstream inducer of noncanonical NF-κB signaling and a critical regulator of immunity and inflammation. Our recent work has demonstrated that NIK regulates mitochondrial respiration and adaptive metabolic responses in cancer and innate immune cells. However, it is not clear whether NIK also has roles in regulating systemic metabolism.

The DNA transposon Tc1 was the first transposable element to be characterized in Caenorhabditis elegans and to date, remains the best-studied transposable element in Caenorhabditis worms. While Tc1 copy-number is regulated at approximately 30 copies in the laboratory Bristol N2 and the vast majority of C. elegans strains, the Bergerac strain and its derivatives have experienced a marked Tc1 proliferation.

The monoclinic gadolinium sesquioxide (denoted as m-GdO) with its lower crystal symmetry exhibits larger dielectric permittivity () than the cubic GdO (denoted as c-GdO). Recently, a few nanometers thick m-GdO thin film has been successfully epitaxially grown on a GaN substrate as a promising candidate gate oxide in metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). Thus, it is important to understand the electronic excitations in m-GdO and investigate them by electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) performed with aloof electron beams and electron diffraction to gain the spatial and momentum resolutions.

The two cultivated allopolyploid cottons, and , represent a remarkable example of parallel independent domestication, both involving dramatic morphological transformations under selection from wild perennial plants to annualized row crops. Deep resequencing of 643 newly sampled accessions spanning the wild-to-domesticated continuum of both species, and their allopolyploid relatives, are combined with existing data to resolve species relationships and elucidate multiple aspects of their parallel domestication. It is confirmed that wild and were initially domesticated in the Yucatan Peninsula and NW South America, respectively, and subsequently spread under domestication over 4000-8000 years to encompass most of the American tropics.

Commercial operations use low-temperature conditioning of citrus fruits to reduce the incidence of chilling injury (CI) during cold storage and quarantine treatments. Rio Red grapefruits ( Macf) were stored for 12 weeks at 11°C or 5°C; an additional set was temperature conditioned at 16°C for 7 days before storing at 5°C (CD). Every 3 weeks, samples were assessed for chilling injury (CI) and health-promoting compounds such as ascorbic acid, carotenoids, limonoids, flavonoids, and furocoumarins.

Tributyltin (TBT) was detected in all 24 surface sediment (top 2 cm) samples collected from Coddington Cove, Newport, RI. TBT surface sediment concentrations ranged from 32 to 372 ng Sn/g with a mean concentration of 146 ng Sn/g. Analyses of selected core sections detected TBT in at least the top 18 cm at all 7 stations where cores were collected.
