Background: Spatiotemporal and kinematic variables during gait undergo characteristic changes with aging. However, the relationships between these domains, and how these change with aging, have not been extensively investigated.
Research Question: How does age affect relationships between spatiotemporal and joint/segment range-of-motion variables during treadmill gait?
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a motion capture system tracked 60 participants (20-80 years old), walking at self-selected and slow speeds on a treadmill.

The chemical oxidation of simple phenolic compounds by the hypervalent iodine reagent [hydroxy(tosyloxy)iodo]benzene (HTIB) was investigated using electrochemical and spectroscopic methods. HTIB oxidized phenol and benzenediol isomers hydroquinone (HQ), catechol, and resorcinol to form various quinone structures. HQ and catechol, two compounds that show reversible electrochemical behavior, exhibited simple oxidative chemistry to their respective quinone structures that could be electrochemically reduced at a glassy carbon electrode.

The synthesized compound, 1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-4-(pent-1-yn-1-yl)piperidin-4-yl propionate (), and its 1:1 complex with β-cyclodextrin () have been characterized for the first time through a comprehensive suite of analytical methods. This study explores the therapeutic potential of in modulating immune responses and accelerating the resolution of septic inflammation induced by chromium and vanadium ions in outbred male rats. The research highlights the significant impact of on the dynamics of regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs), notably causing a reduction in the CD4CD25 fractions at the onset of inflammation.

Characterizing the population density of species is a central interest in ecology. Eastern North America is the global hotspot for biodiversity of plethodontid salamanders, an inconspicuous component of terrestrial vertebrate communities, and among the most widespread is the eastern red-backed salamander, . Previous work suggests population densities are high with significant geographic variation, but comparisons among locations are challenged by lack of standardization of methods and failure to accommodate imperfect detection.

Drones (unoccupied aircraft systems) have become effective tools for wildlife monitoring and conservation. Automated animal detection and classification using artificial intelligence (AI) can substantially reduce logistical and financial costs and improve drone surveys. However, the lack of annotated animal imagery for training AI is a critical bottleneck in achieving accurate performance of AI algorithms compared to other fields.

Trimethoprim is recommended as a first-line treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in the UK. In 2018, 31.4% of isolated from UTIs in England were trimethoprim-resistant, leading to overreliance on other first and second-line antibiotics.

Research is lacking regarding adults' ability to determine whether children's drawings are based on an experience or not. Drawings are useful in professional settings to alleviate linguistic demands, facilitate memory, and have been used as evidence. Determining the accuracy of veracity assessments of children's drawings would inform professionals regarding their use as evidence of experiences.

Massive amounts of mismanaged plastic waste have led to growing concerns about their adverse impacts on the environment, ecosystem, and human health. Enabling efficient plastic recycling is a key component for developing a sustainable future, which requires cohesive efforts in technology innovations, public awareness, and workforce development. Particularly, outreach activities to inform the broader community about current efforts to fabricate sustainable polymeric materials can play a central role in inspiring future generations while also improving their knowledge, viewpoints, and behaviors to address plastic waste challenges.

Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) on absorbent surfaces, such as fabrics, is far more complex compared to its application on smooth, hard, non-porous surfaces. Angle of impact and directionality are commonly interpreted from bloodstains but may be adversely affected by porous surfaces. In fact, there is a lack of evidence that traditional approaches to BPA are even applicable when blood impacts absorbent materials such as clothing and other fabrics.

Background: Stress significantly affects both the physical and emotional health of individuals, particularly students in health-related fields. Medical students in Brazil face unique challenges due to the demanding nature of their studies, especially during assessment periods, which heighten academic pressure. These pressures often lead to poor coping strategies and mental health concerns.

Metabolic rewiring, a dynamic metabolic phenotype switch, confers that tumors exist and proliferate after fitness (or preadaptation) in harsh environmental conditions. Glycolysis deprivation was considered to be a tumor's metabolic Achilles heel. However, metabolic configuration can flexibly retune the mitochondrial metabolic ability when glycolysis is scared, potentially resulting in more aggressive clones.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is a semicrystalline polymer that exhibits unique piezoelectric characteristics along with good chemical resistance and high thermal stability. Layer-based material extrusion (MEX) 3D printing of PVDF is desired to create complex structures with piezoelectric properties; however, the melt processing of PVDF typically directs the formation of the α crystalline allomorph, which does not contribute to the piezoelectric response. In this work, PVDF was compounded with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and cyclopentyl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (Cp-POSS) nanostructured additives in binary and ternary blends to improve MEX printability while maintaining piezoelectric performance.

New World porcupines (Erethizontinae) originated in South America and dispersed into North America as part of the Great American Biotic Interchange (GABI) 3-4 million years ago. Extant prehensile-tailed porcupines (Coendou) today live in tropical forests of Central and South America. In contrast, North American porcupines (Erethizon dorsatum) are thought to be ecologically adapted to higher-latitude temperate forests, with a larger body, shorter tail, and diet that includes bark.

The social identity approach to leadership posits that leaders' effectiveness depends on their ability to represent, advance, create, and embed a shared sense of social identity among their followers. Although significant progress has been made in investigating the benefits of identity leadership in adult sports, research in youth sports is still in its infancy. One reason is the lack of a youth-centric inventory that adequately measures identity leadership in this population.

Drawing a referent of a to-be-remembered word often results in better recognition and recall of this word relative to a control task in which the word is written, a pattern dubbed the drawing effect. Although this effect is not always found in pure lists, we report three experiments in which the drawing effect emerged in both pure- and mixed-lists on recognition and recall tests, though the effect was larger in mixed lists. Our experiments then compared drawing effects on memory between pure- and mixed-list contexts to determine whether the larger mixed-list drawing effect reflected a benefit to draw items, a cost to write items, or a combination.

Previous research has reported mixed findings regarding age-related changes in dynamic postural stability, quantified by margin of stability (MOS), during gait. However, age-related changes in MOS may be better elicited by tasks imposing greater challenges to the postural control system. Older adults' MOS during obstacle crossing, a destabilizing task, has previously been characterized, although studies comparing MOS during this task between younger and older adults remain sparse.
