Medicinal plants accommodated by understory habitats can easily suffer over-exploitation in the heavy harvest of natural products. It is necessary to develop a sustainable cultural protocol to provide high-quality stocks for efficient regeneration. Drought places stress on medicinal plants during their culture by limiting new sprout growth and reducing the quality of medicinal extracts.

Browning of olive ( L.) fruit reduces the sensory and nutritional qualities of olive oil, thereby increasing production costs. Polyphenol oxidases (PPOs) are the key enzymes that catalyze phenolic substance oxidation and mediate enzymatic browning in olive fruit, but the exact regulatory mechanism remains unclear.

The genus (sea buckthorn) is widely cultivated and consumed in Asia and Europe. The fruit color is an important appearance and commercial trait for sea buckthorn, which is closely related to the biosynthesis and accumulation of various nutrients and pigments. The fruit colors of sea buckthorn are varied, which appear as yellow, orange, red, and brown.

Carex communities in most Yangtze-disconnected lakes have been degraded severely due to alterations in water level fluctuations. To explore the feasibility of restoring the lakeshore Carex communities through ecological regulation of water level, the present study selected the Yangtze-connected Qili Lake (the lakeshore was dominated by Carex) and the Yangtze-disconnected Wuchang Lake (the lakeshore was dominated by Zizania latifolia) as model systems, and analyzed the lakeshore seed bank characteristics and seed-related quantitative, morphological, and germination traits of three representative Carex species. According to the results, although Carex seed density in the Qili Lake seed bank was obviously higher than that in Wuchang Lake, their contribution to the total seed density in both lakes was extremely low, with no significant difference between the two lakes.

Soil organic carbon (SOC), as a crucial measure of soil quality, is typically low in arid regions due to salinization, which is a global issue. How soil organic carbon changes with salinization is not a simple concept, as high salinity simultaneously affects plant inputs and microbial decomposition, which exert opposite effects on SOC accumulation. Meanwhile, salinization could affect SOC by altering soil Ca (a salt component), which stabilizes organic matter via cation bridging, but this process is often overlooked.

The basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family of transcription factors is one of the largest and oldest transcription factor families in plants. Members of the bHLH family regulate various growth and metabolic processes in plants. We used quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping and transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq) to identify as a candidate bHLH transcription factor associated with root dry weight (RDW) in poplar.

The effect of histone H3K9 acetylation modification on gene expression and drought resistance in drought-resistant tree species is not clear. Using the chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) method, this study obtained nine H3K9 acetylated protein-interacting DNAs from sea buckthorn seedlings, and the ChIP sequencing result predicted about 56,591, 2217 and 5119 enriched region peaks in the control, drought and rehydration comparative groups, respectively. Gene functional analysis of differential peaks from three comparison groups revealed that 105 pathways were involved in the drought resistance process, and 474 genes were enriched in the plant hormone signaling transduction pathways.

Pine wilt disease, caused by the pine wood nematode (PWN, ), is a major quarantine forest disease that poses a threat to various pine species, including (masson pine), worldwide. Breeding of PWN-resistant pine trees is an important approach to prevent the disease. To expedite the production of PWN-resistant accessions, we investigated the effects of maturation medium treatments on somatic embryo development, germination, survival, and rooting.

Introduction: Salinization affects more than 25% of the world's arable land, and Ledeb (), the representative of plants, is widely grown in salinized soil. In contrast, less is known about the mechanism of potassium's antioxidative enzyme activity in preventing NaCl stress damage to plants.
Method: This study examined changes in root growth for at 0h, 48h, and 168h, performed antioxidant enzyme activity assays, transcriptome sequencing, and non-targeted metabolite analysis to understand changes in their roots as well as changes in the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT).

Bamboo nodes play a key role in the hollow structure and the rapid growth of bamboo culm. Studying on the anatomical structure of bamboo is helpful to understand its growth mechanism. Taking the noninvasive, high-resolution and accurate technical advantages of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), we conducted cross-sectional high-resolution MRI scanning on the tip of young Moso bamboo culm (removed shoot sheath) and extracted the gray value of the MRIs by using MATLAB software to explore the differences of water distribution in nodes, proximal nodes, and internodes.

The prenylation of proteins is involved in a variety of biological functions. However, it remains unknown whether it plays an important role in the morphogenesis of the cerebellum. To address this question, we generated a mouse model, in which the geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate synthase (Ggps1) gene is inactivated in neural progenitor cells in the developing cerebellum.

Although an important greenhouse gas, methane flux in hilly forest ecosystems remains unclear. By using closed-path eddy covariance systems, methane flux was measured continuously from 2017 to 2019 in a mixed plantation in the Xiaolangdi area of the Yellow River in North China. The methane flux footprint and its diurnal and monthly variations were analysed, and its characteristics on rainy days are discussed.

Near-natural forest management plays an important role in the maintenance of the long-term productivity and soil fertility of plantations. We conducted high-throughput absolute quantitative sequencing of 16S rRNA genes to compare the structures and diversity of rhizosphere soil bacterial communities among a pure Chinese fir () plantation (S), a mixed plantation (SHX), and a mixed plantation (SD). The results revealed that near-natural forest management improved the rhizosphere soil properties of Chinese fir, especially the phosphorus content.

The adventitious root (AR) is the basis for successful propagation by plant cuttings and tissue culture and is essential for maintaining the positive traits of a variety. Members of the amino acid/auxin permease (AAAP) gene family play indispensable roles in various plant metabolisms and have few studies on root growth and amino acid transport. In this study, with a systematic bioinformatics analysis of the AAAP family, 83 were identified from and grouped into 8 subfamilies.

There are no known approved pharmacotherapies for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in the clinical setting. Although studies have provided substantial evidence that geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase (GGPPS) is a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of NAFLD corresponding drug screening is rare. A GGPPS-targeted inhibitor is identified using a structure-based virtual small molecule screening method.

Seed orchards represent the link between forest breeding and conifer production forests, and their mating patterns determine the genetic quality of seed orchard crops to a large extent. We genotyped the parental clones and their open pollination offspring in the third-generation seed orchard of Chinese fir using microsatellite markers and observed the synchronization of florescence in the seed orchard to understand the genetic diversity and mating structure of the seed orchard population. Genetic coancestry among parental clones was detected in the third generation seed orchard of Chinese fir, and the genetic diversity of the open-pollinated offspring was slightly higher than that of the parental clones.
