Department of Pharmacology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China.

As a gas molecule, hydrogen sulfide (HS) exerts neuroprotective effects. Despite its recognized importance, there remains a need for a deeper understanding of HS's impact on vascular smooth muscle cells and its role in ischemic brain injury. This study employs encompassing cultured primary cerebral vascular smooth muscle cells, oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation model, in vitro vascular tone assessments, in vivo middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion experimentation in male rats, and the utilization of ROCK knockout, to unravel the intricate relationship between H2S and cerebrovascular diastolic function.

Electronic address:

An autoimmune condition known as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is characterized by persistent polyarticular inflammation. Within two years of the disease's onset, irreparable bone and joint deterioration can occur as a result of the inflammatory course of the illness, leading to joint deformity and loss of function. In most patients diagnosed with RA, a range of autoantibodies, particularly anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA), can be detected months to years before the onset of clinically recognizable disease.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) induced by atherosclerosis (AS) is the main fatal complication of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Establishing an appropriate animal model of SLE with AS is of great value for investigating the pathogenesis and therapeutic targets of SLE-CVD. In the present work, pristane was injected intraperitoneally into C57BL/6J mice to establish the SLE model and Bacillus Calmette-Guerin Vaccine (BCG) was injected intradermally one month later to enhance immunity and induce AS.

Background And Purpose: Sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca-ATPase (SERCA2a) is impaired in heart failure. Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) are implicated in the modulation of local cAMP signals and protein kinase A (PKA) activity essential for cardiac function. We characterise PDE isoforms that underlie decreased activities of SERCA2a and reduced cardiac contractile function in diabetic cardiomyopathy.

Immune cell therapy based on chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) technology platform has been greatly developed. The types of CAR immune cell therapy have expanded from T cells to innate immune cells such as NK cells and macrophages, and the diseases treated have expanded from hematological malignancies to non-tumor fields such as infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases. Among them, CAR-T and CAR-NK therapy have observed examples of rapid remission in approved clinical trials, but the efficacy is unstable and plagued by tumor resistance.

December 2024

School of Pharmacy, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China; The Grade 3 Pharmaceutical Chemistry Laboratory of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hefei, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Qingshen granule (QSG) has anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties that can help alleviate renal damage caused by renal fibrosis (RF), particularly by affecting dendritic cells (DCs).
  • The study used adenine-induced RF animal models to assess how QSG influences immune cell differentiation and function, alongside examining its metabolic effects on glucose and lipid processes in DCs and T cells.
  • Results showed that QSG reduced kidney damage, lowered proinflammatory cytokines, altered DC markers, and impacted metabolic gene expression, ultimately promoting DC maturation while inhibiting their migratory ability and antigen presentation to T cells.
