A Rare Case of Systemic Cystic Angiomatosis in an Elderly Female Initially Misdiagnosed as Vascular Neoplasm: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Introduction: Systemic cystic angiomatosis is an exceedingly rare condition characterized by widespread cystic vascular lesions involving multiple organs. Its clinical presentation can be non-specific, often leading to diagnostic challenges. This report discusses the case of a 72-year-old female with a long-standing history of diabetes mellitus who presented with non-specific symptoms, ultimately diagnosed with systemic cystic angiomatosis after an initial misdiagnosis of vascular neoplasia.

Integrating Family Involvement in Neuro-Intensive Care: A Pathway to Enhanced Family Satisfaction in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Management.

Introduction Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major health concern due to its poor clinical and functional outcome and its impact on family homeostasis. Often, the stressed and anxious family is not involved in the care process until the rehabilitation phase. This study aimed to evaluate the integration of family involvement in the neuro-intensive care of TBI patients on family satisfaction.

Timeliness of reperfusion in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and outcomes in Kerala, India: results of the TRUST outcomes registry.

Purpose: Transatlantic guidelines endorse quality metrics for timely reperfusion in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Compliance in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is largely unknown.

Study Design: We prospectively evaluated 2928 STEMI patients in Kerala, India, across 16 PCI-capable hospitals who received reperfusion with either primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) or fibrinolysis.

Loop Diuretics Unique Mechanism of Action.

Loop diuretics, including torsemide, furosemide, bumetanide, and piretanide, act by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride (Na/K/2Cl) cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle within the nephron. This mechanism is pivotal in managing fluid retention associated with conditions such as heart failure, cirrhosis, chronic kidney disease, and hypertension. Enhancing Anterior Esthetic Zone Implant Placement Through Bone Manipulation Techniques: A Case Series.

Replacement of missing teeth using dental implants has become the most frequently performed procedure. Following tooth loss, buccolingual bone width decreases significantly compromising the successful placement of dental implants. Various treatment modalities have been advocated in scenarios with insufficient buccolingual bone width like narrow diameter implant placement, horizontal guided bone regeneration, ridge splitting technique, and osseodensification.

A rare synchronous presentation of primary malignant melanoma in cervix and vagina.

Malignant melanoma, primarily a cutaneous malignancy, can also involve mucosal surfaces and constitutes 2% to 7% of all gynecological malignancies. Primary melanoma of the uterine cervix is an uncommon tumor and has poor prognosis. In the female genital tract, the synchronous occurrence of primary malignant melanoma in the cervix and vagina is rare.

Angioleiomyoma in a 54-year-old Female: A Case Report of Distal Leg Tumor and Review of the Literature.

Introduction: Angioleiomyomas are rare benign tumors originating from smooth muscle cells of blood vessels. Although they can occur in various anatomical locations, angioleiomyomas of the distal leg are relatively uncommon. Due to its clinical resemblance to other soft-tissue tumors, misdiagnosis can occur leading to inadequate treatment.

Predicting the Classification of Home Oxygen Therapy for Post-COVID-19 Rehabilitation Patients Using a Neural Network.

Objective: We evaluated the accuracy of a neural network to classify and predict the possibility of home oxygen therapy at the time of discharge from hospital based on patient information post-coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at admission.

Methods: Patients who survived acute treatment with COVID-19 and were admitted to the Amagasaki Medical Co-operative Hospital during August 2020-December 2021 were included. However, only rehabilitation patients (n = 88) who were discharged after a rehabilitation period of at least 2 weeks and not via home or institution were included.

Uncoupling of the Femoral Head in a Case of Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty Dislocation.

Bipolar hemiarthroplasty of the hip is a routinely done procedure in the elderly with neck of femur fractures. An uncommon yet widely recognized complication is the dislocation of hemiarthroplasty. Uncoupling of the femoral head from the stem implant can complicate such dislocations.

Formative acceptance of ingestible biosensors to measure adherence to TB medications.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) represents a significant public health threat in India. Adherence to antitubercular therapy (ATT) is the key to reducing the burden of this infectious disease. Suboptimal adherence to ATT and lack of demonstrated feasibility of current strategies for monitoring ATT adherence highlights the need for alternative adherence monitoring systems.

Sex and Medium-term Outcomes of ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Kerala, India: A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis.

Background: Sex-based differences have been found in outcomes following ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI). Studies assessing sex-based differences in STEMI among Indian patients have reported conflicting results.

Methods: A prospective multicenter registry of consecutive patients with STEMI who presented to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)-capable hospitals in the Indian state of Kerala between June 2013 and March 2017 was used to assess 1-year outcomes.

Open Classic Latarjet Procedure Performed Using Freehand Technique-Surgical Technique and Outcome.

Introduction: Latarjet procedure is commonly performed for recurrent anterior shoulder instability with glenoid side bone loss. Classic Latarjet procedure can be performed using specially designed drill guides, jigs, or by freehand technique. Here we have described a technical note on classic Latarjet procedure performed with freehand technique utilizing simple rulers and caliper.

The NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences) Maternal Behaviour Scale (NIMBUS): Development and validation of a scale for assessment of maternal behaviour among mothers with postpartum severe mental illness in low resource settings.

Purpose: A mother's behaviour towards her infant is an important aspect of assessment in postpartum severe mental illness (SMI). The existing tools for this purpose need formal training, require time and do not include certain aspects of maternal behaviour. Hence, there is a need for a tool that may overcome some of the above problems and be simple to use, especially in limited resource low and middle income countries (LAMIC) settings.

Composite Pheochromocytoma: A Rare Form of Tumor.

The pheochromocytomas are one of the rare and curable causes of secondary hypertension arising from adrenal medulla, commonly presenting with hypertension; either paroxysmal or persistent. Very rarely they may show cells belonging to more than one line of differentiation and are called as mixed or composite pheochromocytoma.

The design and rationale of the primary angioplasty registry of Kerala.

Background: ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) continues to be a major cause of cardiovascular mortality in Kerala, India. Timely primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is the recommended reperfusion strategy for STEMI. There is limited data on the safety, effectiveness, equity and efficiency of regional primary PCI services in India.

A Case of Anterior Dislocation of Hip Associated with an Unusual Pattern of Fracture of Proximal Femur.

Introduction: Anterior dislocation of hip associated with fracture of proximal femur is an uncommon injury. Only very few cases are reported in the literature. We report such an unusual and previously not described case of anterior dislocation of hip associated with fracture of trochanter and neck of the femur in an elderly lady.

Effect of maternal and neonatal factors on cord blood thyroid stimulating hormone.

Background: Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is most common preventable cause of mental retardation in children. Cord blood Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (CBTSH) level is an accepted screening tool for CH.

Objectives: To study CBTSH profile in neonates born at tertiary care referral center and to analyze the influence of maternal and neonatal factors on their levels.

Subtotal Pancreatectomy for Congenital Hyperinsulinism: Our Experience and Review of Literature.

Congenital hyperinsulinism (HI) is characterized by profound hypoglycemia caused by inappropriate insulin secretion. HI is a heterogeneous disorder with at least two histologic lesions and several implicated genes. If HI is caused by a focal lesion, elective surgery is the treatment of choice because it leads to complete recovery without diabetes.

An insight into the possibilities of fibroblast growth factor in periodontal regeneration.

Periodontitis is caused by bacterial biofilms and is modulated by a variety of risk factors. The periodontal ligament comprises heterogeneous cell populations which are lost in the disease process. A variety of regenerative therapies, such as bone grafts, guided tissue regeneration treatment, application of enamel matrix derivative, have been introduced, with some success in periodontal tissue regeneration.

Microbial dysbiosis in periodontitis.

Periodontitis is a biofilm-associated inflammatory disease of the periodontium. This disease appears to have multiple etiologies with microbial factor contributing to initiation of the disease and immunological factor of the host propagating the disease. This review is on the concept of "microbial dysbiosis" and molecular nature of periodontitis, and the scope of traditional and emerging technologies for treating this disease.
