Diagnostic value of 11C-Methionine PET-CT imaging in persistent or recurrent Cushing's disease after surgery.

Introduction: Equivocal or negative pituitary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings raise a significant challenge in the management of persistent or recurrent Cushing's disease (CD), compromising the chances of success of a further transsphenoidal surgery (TSS). The aim of our study was to determine the diagnostic utility of 11C-methionine (MET) positron emission tomography coupled with computerized tomography (PET/CT) in localizing the residual or relapsing corticotroph adenoma.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the results of 11C-MET PET/CT performed in two tertiary medical centers between May 2002 and November 2023 in 22 patients with a persisting or recurrent CD after initial TSS and equivocal or negative pituitary MRI findings.

Methods: This is a retrospective global cohort study of pwCF who had confirmed COVID-19 infection diagnosed between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

Intravascular large cell B lymphoma presenting as central nervous system pseudo-vasculitis: A rare diagnostic challenge.

Intravascular large B cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a very rare subtype of aggressive non-Hodgkin B cell lymphoma characterized by intravascular proliferation of clonal B lymphocytes, classically associated with pulmonary and cutaneous disease and, less frequently, with central nervous system (CNS) involvement. Brain imaging findings are usually non-specific, with evidence of multiple vascular occlusions and stroke as non-specific multifocal abnormalities. We present an exceptionally rare case of IVLBCL in a patient with unexplained inflammatory syndrome with B symptoms and rapidly progressive neurological impairment, with multifocal hemorrhagic and tumefactive brain lesions seen on MRI.

Effects of enrichment strategies on outcome of adrecizumab treatment in septic shock: analyses of the phase II adrenomedullin and outcome in septic shock 2 trial.

Purpose: Adrecizumab, a non-neutralizing antibody of adrenomedullin (ADM) was recently investigated regarding its potential to restore endothelial barrier function in septic shock patients with high plasma ADM levels. Circulating dipeptidyl peptidase 3 (cDPP3), a protease involved in the degradation of several cardiovascular mediators, represents another biological pathway strongly associated with outcome in septic shock, although unrelated to ADM. Therefore, the prognosis of patients with elevated cDPP3 may not be influenced by Adrecizumab.

Treatment of a severe distal thoracic and abdominal coarctation with cutting balloon and stent implantation in an infant: From fetal diagnosis to adolescence.

Background And Aims: Abdominal coarctations are rare. Surgical treatment is difficult and requires re-interventions to adjust the graft material to patient growth. We report effective treatment by interventional catheterization in an infant with the concern to allow adjustment for growth and prevention of vessel damage.

Randomized Phase 2 Study Comparing Pathological Responses of Resected Colorectal Cancer Metastases after Bevacizumab with mFOLFOX6 or FOLFIRI (BEV-ONCO Trial).

Retrospective studies reported that preoperative oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy increased pathological response (PR) in patients resected for colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). This multicenter prospective randomized (1/1) phase II trial evaluated PR on resected CRLM after preoperative mFOLFOX6 (arm A) or FOLFIRI (arm B) + bevacizumab. The primary endpoint was the major pathological response rate (MPRR), defined as the percentage of patients presenting CRLMs with mean tumor regression grade (TRG) < 3.

Background And Aims: Routine screening for Methicillin-Resistant (MRSA) in pregnant women is common practice in many hospitals. However, little is known on its prevalence and clinical relevance in this population. In this prospective longitudinal study, we aimed to investigate the MRSA prevalence in our obstetric population, the rate of vertical transmission of MRSA and the potential clinical relevance of MRSA colonization for both mother and child.

The USA300 North American (NA) variant, harbouring the arginine catabolic mobile element (ACME), is predominant in the USA while the Latin American (LV) variant is predominant in Northern South America. Both variants have failed to become endemic in Europe.

Asparaginase (ASNase) is an important anti-leukaemic drug in the treatment of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). A substantial proportion of patients develop hypersensitivity reactions with anti-ASNase neutralising antibodies, resulting in allergic reactions or silent inactivation (SI), and characterised by inactivation and rapid clearance of ASNase. We report results of a prospective, real-time therapeutic drug monitoring of pegylated Escherichia coli (PEG-)ASNase and Erwinia ASNase in children treated for ALL and NHL in Belgium.

Pulmonary hypertension detection by computed tomography pulmonary transit time in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

Aims: To evaluate the relationships between pulmonary transit time (PTT), cardiac function, and pulmonary haemodynamics in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and to explore how PTT performs in detecting pulmonary hypertension (PH).

Methods And Results: In this prospective study, 57 patients with advanced HFrEF [49 men, 51 years ± 8, mean left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction 26% ± 8] underwent echocardiography, right heart catheterization, and cardiac computed tomography (CT). PTT was measured as the time interval between peaks of attenuation in right ventricle (RV) and LV and was compared between patients with or without PH and 15 controls.

Real life safety and effectiveness of nivolumab in older patients with non-small cell lung cancer: Results from the Belgian compassionate use program.

Objectives: To compare real life effectiveness and safety of nivolumab in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), according to age and Eastern Cooperative Group performance status (ECOG-PS).

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients treated with nivolumab for NSCLC within a Belgian compassionate use program from July 2015 until December 2016. Safety and effectiveness were compared between patients aged ≥70 years and < 70 years and between ECOG-PS 0/1 and ≥ 2.

Impact of Primary Tumour Location and Early Tumour Shrinkage on Outcomes in Patients with RAS Wild-Type Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Following First-Line FOLFIRI Plus Panitumumab.

Objective: Data from a trial of first-line panitumumab plus FOLFIRI (folinic acid, infusional 5-fluorouracil and irinotecan) in metastatic colorectal cancer were retrospectively analysed to investigate the effects of primary tumour location and early tumour shrinkage on outcomes.

Methods: Patients with RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer from a single-arm, open-label phase II study (NCT00508404) were included. Tumours located from the splenic flexure to rectum and in the caecum to transverse colon were defined as left- and right-sided, respectively.

Does Medial Patellofemoral Osteoarthritis Influence Outcome Scores and Risk of Revision After Fixed-bearing Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty?

Background: Patellofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) and anterior knee pain sometimes are considered contraindications for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). However, several studies have demonstrated excellent patient-reported outcome scores in patients with patellofemoral OA treated with medial mobile-bearing UKA. Because these studies assessed the outcome of mobile-bearing UKA only, we were interested to see whether that finding also applies to fixed-bearing medial UKA.

Prenatal diagnosis of isolated total anomalous systemic venous connection to the left atrium.

We report the prenatal diagnosis and the neonatal follow-up of a patient with isolated total abnormal systemic venous connection to the left atrium. Right-sided and left-sided superior caval veins and the inferior caval vein were all connected to the left atrium. Pulmonary venous return was normal.

Belgian hand hygiene campaigns in ICU, 2005-2015.

Background: Healthcare-associated infections (HCAI) are still a major problem especially in most intensive care units (ICU). Incompliance by clinical staff with hand hygiene (HH) increases rates of preventable infections. We report the outcome of the Belgian national hand hygiene campaign from 2005 to 2015 with focus on intensive care units.
