Coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a powerful tool to rule out coronary artery disease (CAD). In the last decade, myocardial perfusion CT (CTP) technique has been developed for the evaluation of myocardial ischemia, thereby increasing positive predictive value for diagnosis of obstructive CAD. A diagnostic strategy combining CCTA and perfusion acquisitions provides both anatomical coronary evaluation and functional evaluation of the stenosis, increasing the specificity and the positive predictive value of cardiac CT.

Acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) and malaria are not rare infections in tropical countries; however, in the European continent, such imported entity has not been reported up to now. Herein, we report a 24-year-old male suffering from malaria and hepatitis E, who was admitted with acute hepatic failure dark colored urine, followed by coagulation and inflammation parameters increase. Blood smear analysis revealed the presence of , while serological tests revealed anti-HEV IgM antibodies.

Uterine torsion represents a rare condition that may occur during pregnancy or in non-gravid women. This condition is difficult to diagnose, since there are no specific signs besides abdominal pain. Thus, most of the cases are not diagnosed correctly before a surgical procedure and may result in complications and poor outcomes.

Background: Advancing the retrograde microcatheter (MC) into the antegrade guide catheter during retrograde chronic total occlusion (CTO) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) can be challenging or impossible, preventing guidewire externalization.
Objectives: To detail and evaluate all the techniques focused on wiring to achieve intubation of the distal tip of a microcatheter, balloon, or stent with an antegrade or retrograde guidewire, aiming to reduce complications by minimizing tension on fragile collaterals during externalization and enabling rapid antegrade conversion in various clinical scenarios.
Methods: We describe the two main techniques, tip-in and rendezvous, and their derivatives such a facilitated tip-in, manual MC-tip modification, tip-in the balloon, tip-in the stent, deep dive rendezvous, catch-it and antegrade microcatheter probing.

The aim of this study is to examine the prognostic role of initial chest computed tomography severity score index (CTSS) and its association with demographic, socio-epidemiological, and clinical parameters in COVID-19 hospitalized patients. A retrospective study included patients who were hospitalized in the COVID Hospital of the Clinical Hospital Center Kosovska Mitrovica from July 2020 to March 2022. We compared patient characteristics and outcome of their hospital stay with values of CT severity score (mild, moderate, and severe form of the disease).

: Patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (HD) are predisposed to both thrombotic and bleeding complications due to the complex interplay of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), cardiovascular comorbidities, and the routine use of anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapies. This study aimed to investigate the incidence of bleeding and thrombotic events in chronic HD patients receiving anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy, with a specific focus on those with atrial fibrillation (AF). : A total of 224 patients, with 43 (19%) of them diagnosed with AF, were included in this single-center, observational cohort study conducted over 24 months.

We performed a literature review focusing on case reports and case series studies, aiming to better define the clinical presentation of isolated lateral intraventricular neurocysticercosis (LVNCC) and to discuss the current knowledge of its characteristics, patient demographics, clinical manifestations, treatment, and prognosis, based on the collected data. Data for this study were gathered by conducting searches on the Medline database and Google Scholar using various combinations of the following terms "intraventricular neurocysticercosis (IVNCC)," "brain ventricle cyst," "cysticercosis of lateral brain ventricles," "cysticercus cyst in brain ventricles," and "intraventricular cystic brain lesion." Articles published in English between January 1980 and March 2023 that reported cases of LVNCC were selected for analysis.

Tapentadol is a unique opioid analgesic due to its dual mechanism of action. Compared to other opioids with a classical mechanism of action, its analgesic potential is not far behind them, and its advantages are: a better safety profile in terms of a lower potential for drug-drug interactions and a lower potential for causing adverse events, and it is safe to use in sensitive populations. Tapentadol in the form of a immediate release formulation is an adequate drug of choice for achieving a pharmacotherapeutic analgesic response in acute pain conditions, while in the form of a extended release formulation it is an adequate pharmacotherapeutic analgesic solution for chronic pain syndromes of various etiology.

The incorporation of bevacizumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), has redefined therapeutic strategies for advanced ovarian cancer. This study evaluates the efficacy of bevacizumab combined with standard chemotherapy by comparing progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) outcomes with a historical cohort of patients treated with standard chemotherapy alone. We conducted an analysis of 71 patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer treated at the University Clinical Center in Niš, Serbia, from April 2017 to March 2023.

: The pathophysiological mechanism underlying pregnancy complications is not entirely known. Although it is currently impossible to predict the occurrence of redox imbalance, it is possible to identify women with a high or medium risk of developing this disease prior to a negative outcome by non-invasive diagnostic methods. : This study aimed to examine the possible role of the parameter of oxidative stress (OS) measured in early pregnancy in the screening/treatment of obesity and its complications during pregnancy.

Systemic arterial hypertension (HTN) is the main cause of morbidity and mortality, and HTN crises contribute significantly to an unfavourable clinical course. For decades, HTN crises have been dichotomized into hypertensive emergency (HTN-E) and hypertensive urgency (HTN-U). The main difference between the two is the presence of acute hypertension-mediated organ damage (HMOD) - if HMOD is present, HTN crisis is HTN-E; if not, it is HTN-U.

Background: The introduction of anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) immunotherapy has revolutionized the treatment landscape for melanoma, enhancing both response rates and survival outcomes in patients with advanced stages of the disease. Despite these remarkable advances, a noteworthy subset of patients (40%-60%) does not derive advantage from this therapeutic approach. This study aims to identify key predictive factors and create a user-friendly predictive nomogram for stage IV melanoma patients receiving first-line anti-PD-1-based immunotherapy, improving treatment decisions.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a non-traumatic, non-atherosclerotic layering of the coronary artery wall due to the presence of a subintimal hematoma or an intimal tear with the creation of a false lumen that compresses the true lumen and restricts or obstructs the flow. Patients with SCAD and preserved coronary flow are treated conservatively according to the general recommendations. However, percutaneous coronary intervention should be considered in patients with artery occlusion and/or refractory ischemia.

: Even though measles is easily prevented by vaccination, infection outbreaks are not rare. Infection carries a great risk for pulmonary complications, which are sometimes hard to predict, especially in a group of outpatients. This study aims to evaluate the association between serum CRP changes and the severity of respiratory complications in the group of inpatients treated for measles.
